I'm trying to compare Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts to Boneless Skinless Turkey Breasts.

Trying to see how they differ in calories, protein, fat, and amino acids. But I'm getting conflicting info depending on what article I read.

Some say turkey has half the protein/AAs chicken does per serving, others say it has more, others say it's about the same. Laugh

Tried using Google Scholar but couldn't find any studies.

EDIT: This seems reliable. Looks like per 3oz, with Chicken you get 1g more protein, 1g more fat and 10 more calories.

Chicken Breast:
170 calories
25g protein
7g fat

Turkey Breast:
160 calories
24g protein
6g fat

So there's good and bad with either choice, but it's very minimal.

What do you guys eat? I've always had chicken, never tried turkey.

If you think chicken breast is tasteless, wait until you try turkey

They should be about the same per oz. Since they are flightless birds, their breast muscles are going to be very lean.

Interesting thing is how stress can reduce weight. I lost 9 lb in 3 weeks. My weight was totally stable before for years. I don麓t remember when my weight was this low (now 185 lb).
I would like to know where did it go from, 2 weeks ago I was at some kind measurement and I had only 8% of body fat. The weights I lift are going up after long time, even though this loss.

Anyone have any exercises that target the middle of the back. I feel I need to focus on that much more at the moment.

Would I be over training my arms if I do curls everyday and I don't feel soreness or very little soreness?

I used to do curls (low weight lotta reps) when I was younger and my arms got big.
Steelex 路 2017-02-17 14:10:00 路 #3259
Over train?

Are you getting stronger? Are you increasing weight or reps?

If you train arms every day and don't get stronger every day, then yes you're over training because you're impeding your bodies ability to recover.

If you do get stronger every single day, congrats you're a genetic freak.

Sternum to bar chins with chest up and slightly arched back posture (make sure you pull your shoulders right back with your chest up, not let them hunch like a lot of people do to get over the bar when doing chins), and pretty much any row with good form. I like to use the straight bar on the cable row and hold the contraction for a beat. Kroc rows are great too. Any row will do though.

Mid and upper back muscles tend to respond well to volume and higher reps due to fiber distribution (tend to be more slow twitch due to one of the main functions being posture).

This a good video on how to hit every back muscle.

ShotgunUppercuts 路 2017-02-18 19:52:00 路 #3262
Thanks oz. I really appreciate you posting that.

I constantly have pain in the middle of my back so I'm gonna focus on my back this upcoming week.

Generation Iron: Youtube edition.... fuck I just want to go back to the 80's...

First day of back exercises.

First session I did some back rows with 40 lbs dumbbells.i felt the pain going away as I was working the mid back but not exactly where I need to hit it. Tried experimenting with a dumbness for a type of overhead press holding one end of the dumbbell with two hands,I had to really work for it to feel it working my the middle of my back.

I'll keep at it till I find a technique that works for me.

Finally hit an all out max of 190lbs clean and strict press at a bodyweight of 188lbs. This has been a training goal for 7 years or so. It is interesting to note that I haven't build especially big or impressive shoulders or triceps in the process. Personally I'd say I was on the bigger end of an athletic build. 6'1, 188lbs arms just under 15.5", c.12% bf.

Anyway, pleased to have hit a long time goal, but not actually that moved by it. I'm tempted now to drop the weights back down and build a little more muscle and do a little aesthetic tweaking for a while.

I've been more disciplined about doing lots of band pull aparts recently and my shoulders feel better than ever, and I think my upper back has even grown slightly (clothes seem to feel snugger there, but could just be that there's some residual tension there from working the area more frequently). Definitely recommended for anyone with shoulder issues. I just do 100 per day as per Joe Defranco, splitting them over the day into like 5 sets of 20.

I can't see the wood for the trees sometimes...

Had to clear out my gym gear from my workshop when we got busy recently and needed the space. So I've been heading to the gym down the road more, but I miss having gear close to hand.

What do we keep under the bench? A wide selection of solid steel stock up to 2" diameter. Duuurr...

Currently on a 3 day a week full body program. Everything was going well but now at the gym I go too there's a problem with the floors. So they don't let people use the squat racks and don't allow people to deadlift in there.

I switched OHP to a seated dumbell press.

What exercises would you guys do instead of squats and deadlifts?

The gym has a hack squat machine and a leg press machine would that be a good substitute or should I do something like lunges

Thanks

Get a new gym.
Rico Ramon 路 2017-03-01 07:56:00 路 #3273
Do any of you guys squat and dead lift 3-4 times a week? I was talking to some guys at the gym who are on this program where they do these two exercises for every workout in addition to to their other lifts for each targeted body part.

I thought I would try it out a few weeks ago and I've seen alot of muscle growth in my legs and glutes, I think you know your body and what feels right, granted some days, I may only do squat or deadlifts along with the focus bodypart on one day and Im finished in 45 minutes with very little rest in between sets. Its like you are getting a big jolt of test in every workout.

Is there any point in wasting time regarding getting bigger if it doesn't matter to women? I've trained for over 15 years, am what Martin Berkhan would call advanced or slightly above based on body weight multiple combos (can you do 1.5 your weight on bench, 2x squat, 2.5 dead, do a pullup with half your weight strapped to you, etc)

I've come to the point that I'm basically not willing to eat the kind of calories that would put muscle on, then cut. I'm a bit over 170 and almost 6'2 so I pretty much have an ideal physique for someone who isn't trying to be big and intimidate people

Basically all I do is maintenance, and I enjoy working out, but I pretty much just wanna do it 3x a week and 1 hour, then leave. It makes you feel good and is worth it, but it's pretty boring at this point, so I've abandoned isolation exercises, for the most part --- just compound shit to keep the hormones maintain my current body type

Since I started working out, I would squat a minimum of three times a week. Eventually, I'd moved to squats every day, and I recently did a stint of 12 times a week (twice a day Monday through Friday).

I've also done deadlifts every day.

Doing more of something is the simplest way of making progress. However, I'm not sure how well this translates to muscle growth.

I'll admit though I haven't always made progress doing this. At a certain point, you have to consciously want to make progress otherwise you'll stall. I enjoy moving heavy weights though, so I don't always care about making progress.
