I am getting back out in the field on the reg and one thing I haven't had much success with is working the bigger groups at night that are mixed with girls and guys in them.

Just last night I was standing near the bar and I saw a group, probably 3 girls and 2 guys. One girl and one guy sort of went off on their own expecting the others to follow after they got their drinks.

So now there were 2 girls and one guy left. One girl and the guy went up to the bar to order while the last girl (brunette) was kind of stuck behind them and in front of me, so we started talking and it was actually going well.

But I could tell i didn't have much time before the 2 in the front got drinks and they all moved to meet their friends at some other part of the bar.

I literally had like 5 minutes with the brunette and I didn't know where to take it given the limited time left and eventually they got their drinks and left to meet their friends.

Options that came to mind were:

1) get her # quick, knowing she was going to move with her friends soon
2) ask her who was in her group, meet the 2 in the front (who were ordering drinks) and try to engage them all there
3) engage the brunette and when they were going to depart to meet the other friends, ask where they would be chilling and go to them later and work the entire group and the target at a later time

Obviously, #2 seems like the best but its hard to hold down one part of the group, knowing that they will go meet their other friends soon

#3 is just risky - what happens if I don't find them again?

#1 doesn't usually work well for me - trying to get the chick's number in a 5 minute interaction near the early part of the night when you haven't escalated, isolated etc. doesn't have a good return rate.

Of course, I could just look to engage 2 or 3 sets of girls only, but those aren't always as numerous as one would think.

In those situations, in my limited experience the best thing to do is get in with the guys. If they like you you gains some currency with the girls and your also probably doing them a favour because they want to get rid of the third wheel - if you have a decent enough conversation with them for the limited time you get before they head outside they'll be comfortable with you tagging along for a bit, then you're in.....
