The majority of water is just rebottled tap water.

Plus you have the plastic ingredients and with the big water dispenser bottles you also get a wide range of Bisphenols.

Around the world Evian & Perrier are available for safe consumption. Then there are local water brands which are fine. Glass bottles are usually superior, but not in all cases, as there are some safe plastic water containers used as in the case of Evian.

Check also for real mineral water instead of just regular water that has minerals added to it artificially. Also avoid all water that has Sodium Fluoride in it (I know they don't use Sodium Fluoride anymore - it is now a more toxic cocktail derived from Aluminum production and transported usually from China in order to be dumped in the water supply, because throwing that shit away is illegal. Thus poisoning people is the best solution - they even pay for that privilege via taxes. Nevermind the tooth factor - that is a scam - the enamel is getting hardened, but becomes more brittle. Dental health was improved by constant professional and personal care in most countries - not by fluoride in the water supply. BTW - Hitler used fluoride in concentration camps just as Stalin in his gulags, because it made the people more docile (they used higher doses). In most countries in Eastern Europe they stopped adding fluoride to the water supply after the fall of communism - usually they did it silently without letting anyone know, that something had changed.

Water is highly important, most bottled water is a scam, but I would not drink most water supply around the world. In many countries even using it for cooking is not advisable. The reasons can be generally unsanitary conditions or toxic additives. There are filters available, which filter even fluoride. Usually that is a lot cheaper than bottled water. Very few places have water superior to even the best mineral water.

There's a documentary called Tapped (no pun intended) that explains a lot about the subject. It used to be on netflix, I'm not sure if they still have it on there anymore. It's a good watch if anyone is interested.

it's a scam unless you live near a shitty aquifer. I love the penn & teller video but it is definitely skewed because everyone knows NYC water is AWESOME. it's how they get the pizza.

For the most part, people are paying for the bottle itself, not the water (naturally). Its the whole convenience of having something neatly packaged that you can throw away after you're done with it.

I can usually taste the difference between different better waters. Some of them after distinct flavors to them. For the most part, the regular jumbo packs of water don't really taste like anything and are just a method of getting hydrated and throwing the bottle away so you don't have to do the dishes or something. The ones I prefer are Mountain Valley Spring Water (my favorite), Aqua Panna and Evian.

I use this water filter, the Paragon P3050TS. Everyone I served filtered water too says it tastes as good or better than bottled water. I had one in L.A. that lasted about 5 years with no changes in filters or anything. Good for 10,000 gallons. L.A. water smells like chlorine and has an awful taste. This thing completely neutralized it.

As soon as it stopped working, I ordered another one without even thinking about it. Best $50 you can spend. I vouch for it 100%.

What I wonder though is whether these filters could be installed in places like Mexico and make tap water potable. Or does it need some special treatment beyond that.

In the states, I drank tap water. Used to drink a ton of bottled water when I was younger but realized how ridiculous it was a long time ago.

Here in Cambodia, though, it'd be insane to drink from the faucet.
