It's definitely harder when you get older. I have a few close friends but they are scattered in different cities and on other continents so I may only see them once a year, and otherwise occasionally call or Skype.

Eventually your friends get married, have kids, and are busy with family stuff so naturally they have less time.

Go there and sign up. Even if you have to tell them you'll be away for a month* and you just want to get a membership starting in a month, just go there and get it done. That way you're committed for a period of time.

Procrastination is just so easy.

This post is spot on; force yourself to start doing the things you want to do. I can promise you that if you don't, in a year's time you will still be in the same place promising yourself to do the same things "tomorrow".

I always had something witty to say. I didn’t care whose feelings got hurt as long as I got a good laugh. I didn’t care much about maintaining relationships. It was ‘take it or leave it.’ But I got lung cancer recently, and nobody came to visit me when I was in the hospital. That really got me thinking. I don’t take my relationships for granted anymore. I’m much more careful with my words now. I don’t want to upset anybody. I listen a lot more. I try to appreciate everyone who takes the time to speak to me.”

I´ve had many groups of friends. As I am getting older, thouse groups are gradually disappearing. But the best friends are still here. Anyway, my very best friend I met only year and half back (at martial arts gym)... so there´s no limitation for meeting new friends.
In a month I am going to move to another city, so I am a bit frightened, because I will know nobody there. But the plan for meeting new friends is very simple - hit local martial arts gym.

Sounds like the guy never had any friends. That sucks.

Unfortunately, this guy associated ripping on each other and sarcasm with not appreciating people.

It's a square-rectangle analogy. Guy friends make fun of each other, but guys who make fun of each other aren't necessarily friends.
