I think everybody has the capacity to be at least somewhat educated, provided that they have access to good teaching, a good family support structure that emphasises education.

That is precisely what I am saying. We can admit genetic differences that have occurred as the result of evolution between population groups in other species, dogs perhaps being the best example of population groups being actively bred for certain traits. We can admit genetic differences that have occurred as a result between different population groups within humans even when it comes to things like likelihood of suffering different diseases, or potential athletic performance, etc. Yet people run a million miles from admitting that the same biological pressures (isolation and adaptation to local environmental stress) could have any effect upon intelligence.

Either evolution occurs or it doesn't, but we can't cherry pick and say that it occurs for traits X and Y, but that Z is somehow magically off limits.

At an individual level, I think it's a tragedy to tell every kid he could be Isaac Newton. A stupid person should still be able to do a simple job well and obtain a certain level of respect and dignity from that (though not as much as a smart person should in his job, of course). That's not to say that we should step on those weaker than ourselves, but we also shouldn't hold them up to be something they're not either.

At a national level, I think it's a tragedy to import the dregs of another nation. As I wrote in a previous post, adopting a discriminatory immigration policy a la Canada or Australia would be the way to go. The poor, stupid and ugly of Central America are Central America's problem, not the U.S.'s problem. America has plenty (probably even too many) of its own stupid and ugly to deal with. There are indigenous Americans in Appalachia or Detroit who are falling through the cracks. If there must be a welfare state, it should be directed at those people. That's what the woman in the first post was on about, and rightly so. What a complete sellout this has been of poor black (and white) communities in the U.S. It's a cynical attempt by politicians to garner the Hispanic vote ahead of the next mid-term election, and of course, the next presidential election.

Americans are abandoning their support for a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants

A record number of unaccompanied minors have been apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border so far this year, and that's likely shifting the country's opinion about immigration policy.

The majority of Americans now want the government to speed up the process by which it decides whether or not to deport undocumented workers in the country—even if it means deporting some people who would otherwise qualify for asylum, according to a new survey by the Pew Research Center.

Republicans and Independents are significantly more likely to favor expediting the process—60 percent of Republicans and 56 percent of Independents want to speed it up—while Democrats are roughly evenly split—46 percent favor expedition, but 47 percent would prefer to follow current immigration policy.

Disease Tsunami Washing Across Our Border

With medical professionals overwhelmed by border chaos, illegal aliens are being sent across the U.S. without basic health screening, raising the prospect of epidemics of diseases once thought eradicated.
As unaccompanied minors from Central America who have flooded across President Obama's open borders are dispersed nationwide from Nebraska to Illinois to Massachusetts, concerns have arisen that the nation's health has been put at risk by poor and even absent medical screening.

An internal Department of Defense memo obtained by ABC News reports that the director of refugee health at Health and Human Services "has identified a breakdown of the medical screening processes at the Nogales, Ariz., facility." This may be just the tip of a medical-disaster iceberg.

Officials involved in moving the immigrants from Border Patrol processing centers to Health and Human Services facilities are, according to the memo, "putting sick (fevers and coughing) unaccompanied children on airplanes inbound for (Naval Base Ventura County) in addition to the chicken pox and coxsackie virus cases."
Three unaccompanied minors were reportedly in the ICU at local hospitals in California, and two of them were diagnosed with strep pneumonia. The same naval base has experienced an outbreak of pneumonia and influenza among the unaccompanied minors at its detention facility.

The dispersal of illegal aliens, including unaccompanied minors, throughout the U.S. without proper medical screening is an appalling dereliction of duty by a president and an administration sworn to protect the health and safety of American citizens.

"Most of the border minors are being kept in overcrowded facilities ridden with poor hygiene," Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vliet, a preventive medicine specialist, told Breitbart News recently, adding, "This is the ideal condition for a viral outbreak."

"A public health crisis, the likes of which I have not seen in my lifetime, is looming," Vliet wrote recently for World Net Daily. "Drug-resistant tuberculosis is the most serious risk, but even diseases like measles can cause severe complications and death in older or immuno-compromised patients."

Illegal immigrant nabbed in Texas with gun; serial number was filed off

Federal agents found and arrested an illegal immigrant, Oscar Romero Martin-Zacarias, at a home in Brownsville, Texas, cuffing him on weapons charges after they discovered he was in possession of a gun.

The handgun had the serial number filed off, agents said, Breitbart reported.

Three other illegals were arrested at the home, too, during a raid conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the U.S. Border Patrol. Mr. Romero, who’s from Guatemala, was formally charged by U.S. Magistrate Judge Ignacio Torteya of illegal possession of a firearm and ordered to be held without bond.

Court documents indicated Mr. Romero actually told agents he had a gun inside a safe that was at the house, Breitbart reported. Agents found the Hi-Point .40 caliber handgun and saw that the serial number was filed off. When asked, Mr. Romeria said he bought the weapon for $150.

Can anything be done about this? The Democrats are salivating at the thought of new lifelong Democratic voters while Republicans seem useless as well due to their big business connections.

Rick Perry plans to send 1,000 National Guard troops to patrol the border

Texas Gov. Rick Perry ® will reportedly deploy about 1,000 members of the Texas National Guard to the Mexican border in an effort to stem the recent immigration surge, according to the The Monitor. Citing a state senator and a leaked memo, the paper reported that Perry would announce the deployments at a Monday news conference in Austin.

The troop buildup comes amid a sustained surge of young immigrants, most of them fleeing violence in Central America. The memo states that the deployments are aimed at preventing human and drug smuggling, and that they do not represent a "militarization of the border." The effort will cost about $12 million per month, according to The Monitor.

Perry, who has called the border crisis President Obama's "Katrina" moment, said at a Sunday event in Iowa that "if we don't get the satisfaction that the federal government's going to move and move quickly, then the state of Texas will in fact fill that void."

Former Border Patrol agent warns what's coming

The video interview posted here is worth watching in its entirety. Zach Taylor is a 27 year veteran Border Patrol agent with supervisory experience. He has testified before Congress as an expert witness on criminal activity in wilderness areas. His message is credible. He accuses the federal government in a coverup that is deliberately shielding critical information from the public.

Taylor says that whoever is perpetrating the border crisis is engaged in a perfect asymmetrical military tactic. While the American people focus on "the children," he points out that they are actually only a tiny proportion of the people crossing the border. That we are apprehending about 10 percent of the illegal border crossers, and that the other 90 percent are not children. Since only 10 - 15 percent of those apprehended are children, that means we are focused on about 1 percent of the problem. The adults that we are missing are bringing in weapons, personnel and supplies while our attention is diverted by the needs of the children.

He says a very credible informer told him that that the most dangerous crime element in Mexico City is Russian Mafia. That means KGB. Few people know this, but the Soviets entered a secret pact with Mexico very early in the last century, almost certainly with the eventual aim of utilizing Mexico's strategic position in offenses against the U.S. There is little doubt in my mind that the border crisis is an endgame strategy designed to bring in the people and weapons that will kill us. And Taylor asserts that Obama is in on the plan.

The only way to defeat this border swamping strategy is for state governments to initiate independent action with assistance from American volunteers. The federal government is betraying our country and its representatives are betraying their oath to "support and defend" our Constitution and country "from all enemies foreign and domestic."

Maine governor bemoans move of eight child immigrants to his state

BOSTON (Reuters) - Maine Governor Paul LePage blasted the White House on Tuesday for placing in his state eight children who tried to cross the border illegally.

The administration of U.S. President Barack Obama has been struggling to find shelter for the wave of unaccompanied child immigrants from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras that have been arriving at the Mexican border, which is expected to reach 90,000 people by September.

"It is wrong for the federal government to force a higher burden on the people of Maine to pay for those who come to our country illegally," the Republican governor said in a statement. "We cannot become a state that encourages illegal immigration. We simply cannot afford it."

LePage, known for his combative tone and strained relations with state Democrats, said he had not been informed of the plan to house the children ahead of time. He joins a wave of Republican governors pushing back against the Democratic president on immigration. On Monday, Texas Governor Rick Perry said he would send 1,000 National Guard troops to the border to boost security.

Some Democratic governors, notably Deval Patrick of Massachusetts, have offered to host children at facilities in their states.

Gov't arrests 192 on immigrant smuggling charges

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Homeland Security Department said Tuesday it arrested 192 people along the Mexican border in South Texas on immigrant-smuggling charges and seized more than $625,000, part of the Obama administration's efforts to discourage and disrupt the flood of tens of thousands of people crossing the border illegally.

The arrests, which took place under a crackdown called "Operation Coyote," took place over the last month and were part of a 90-day effort targeting smuggling groups.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said it also took into custody 501 immigrants in the country illegally. It said it seized the money from 228 bank accounts held by suspected human- and drug-smuggling groups. It's unclear what happened to the detained immigrants. Victims of crime and witnesses in criminal cases can be extended visas in certain cases. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said those not eligible for a visa or other protections would eventually be sent home.

The White House has complained that smugglers are exploiting U.S. policies that, in practice, allow Central American children to stay for years or indefinitely once they arrive, and it has proposed increasing penalties for smugglers.

Johnson said the crackdown on smugglers was another message to would-be immigrants that "our borders are not open to illegal immigration."

The Rio Grande Valley in South Texas is the Border Patrol's busiest spot along the Mexico border. Border agents have arrested more than 200,000 border crossers in the area some Oct. 1.

The majority of the more than 57,000 child immigrants caught crossing the border without their parents or a guardian have also been taken into custody in the area.

Democrats to unveil $2.7B bill on alien children

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Democrats on Tuesday circulated legislation to significantly cut President Barack Obama's request for emergency funding to deal with an influx of Central American children streaming across the U.S. border with Mexico.

Struggling to deal with the issue before Congress' August break, Democrats floated a measure that also would provide immediate aid to Israel for the Iron Dome missile defense system as well as money needed to fight wildfires in Western states.

Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., is scheduled to release the measure on Wednesday.

The legislation cuts Obama's $3.7 billion request for sheltering and processing unaccompanied immigrant children by $1 billion. It includes $225 million for Iron Dome, designed to intercept short-range rockets and mortars, as Israel battles Hamas militants, and $615 million for wildfires.

House GOP: Send National Guard, speed removals

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans want to slash President Barack Obama's emergency spending request for the border, speed young migrants back home to Central America, and send in the National Guard.

The proposals Wednesday morning amounted to a rebuke of Obama's proposed solution to the crisis on the Southern Border. They put the House on a collision course with the Democratic-run Senate, and increased the likelihood that congressional efforts to address the crisis on the Southern Border, where unaccompanied kids and teens have been showing up by the tens of thousands, will end in stalemate.

"Without trying to fix the problem I don't know how we actually are in a position to give the president any more money," said Speaker John Boehner, shortly after the rank and file reviewed steps to respond to the influx of tens of thousands of kids and teens across the Rio Grande. "What the president's asking for is a blank check."

Haitian Illegal Immigration Through Puerto Rico Is Skyrocketing Too

While U.S. immigration agencies grapple with a recent surge of tens of thousands of illegal immigrants at the Mexican border, the number of Haitians trying to enter the U.S. illegally through Puerto Rico has skyrocketed as well.

In 2011, only 12 Haitians made the trek through the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory in the Caribbean Sea. That number had ballooned to 1,760 as of last year, according to U.S. Coast Guard statistics, CBS News reports.

“That’s new, and that’s something we’re trying to target,” Capt. Mark Fedor, the Coast Guard’s chief of response for the Southeast and Caribbean, told CBS.

“Organized smugglers in the Dominican Republic are advertising their services to Haitians and saying, ‘We’ll smuggle you through the Dominican Republic, put you on a boat to Puerto Rico or to one of the islands in the Mona Pass – a much shorter journey and we can get you to the United States that way.’ And I think people are responding to that,” he said.

The Dominican smugglers often drop their Haitian charges off at Mona Island, an uninhabited Puerto Rican island 40 miles off of the Dominican coast in the Mona Pass.

“As soon as you’re in Puerto Rico, it’s like you’re in the United States,” Lolo Sterne, coordinator for Haiti’s Office of Migration, told the Associated Press last year.

Once in Puerto Rico, the illegal Haitian immigrants are able to fly to destinations in the U.S. without having to show a passport. All they need is a driver’s license, according to the Associated Press.

The new route through the Mona Pass is seen as more desirable as the U.S. Coast Guard has increased patrols of normal routes taken by immigrants from Haiti and the Dominican Republic. As the AP points out, it has become more difficult to travel directly to the U.S. mainland or through Miami, which has historically served as the choice destination for illegal immigrants from the Caribbean.

Drudge Report Article: MS-13 Gang Members Recruiting in Border Crisis

The violent gang MS-13 (Mara Salvatrucha) has reportedly been recruiting members at an Arizona facility that houses new arrivals from Central America.

Homeland Security sources told the Daily Mail, which was prominently featured on the Drudge Report on Monday morning, that MS-13 and other street gangs have infiltrated the facilities where illegal immigrant minors are staying.

About 57,000 minors from Central America have tried to enter the US via the US-Mexico border over the past couple of months. Gang members and are apparently among the minors as well, the Mail said.

But in particular, MS-13 and the 18th Street gang are using members who are from Central America to cross the border to recruit minors into their organizations. It’s estimated that MS-13 has tens of thousand of members.

Shawn Moran, with the National Border Patrol Council, told Fox News that agents have witnessed gang recruiting efforts at a Border Patrol facility in Nogales, Ariz., using the Red Cross as a phone bank to “recruit, enlist, and pressure” minors to cross the border.

“It makes sense that MS-13 would do the same,” said Moran.

He said agents don’t have the power to isolate admitted criminals, gang members, or people engaging in criminal behavior because they’re minors.

“We know it’s happening because agents are telling us,” Moran told the broadcaster. “The Border Patrol is trying to downplay it.”

MS-13 is a transnational gang that started in the 1980s. It was initially started in Los Angeles by Salvadoran immigrants and flourished when members went back to their home countries.

According to the LA Post-Examiner, MS-13 is being used by the Sinaloa cartel in Mexico to wage war against rival cartel Los Zetas.

A few weeks ago, 12 “top-ranking” members of MS-13 were charged in New Jersey. U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman said they were charged with racketeering, drug trafficking, and related crimes, according to The Associated Press. One of those charged with the crimes is a California man who claims to control the gang’s US operations.

Fishman said that Jose Juan Rodriguez-Juarez, 34, was the alleged US leader of MS-13′s “national program,” according to AP.

Obama mulls large-scale move on immigration

WASHINGTON (AP) — Even as they grapple with an immigration crisis at the Mexican border, White House officials are making plans to act before November's elections to grant work permits to potentially millions of immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally, allowing them to stay in the United States without threat of deportation, according to advocates and lawmakers in touch with the administration.

Such a large-scale move on immigration could scramble election-year politics and lead some conservative Republicans to push for impeachment proceedings against President Barack Obama, a prospect White House officials have openly discussed.

Yet there is little sign that the urgent humanitarian situation in South Texas, where unaccompanied minors have been showing up by the tens of thousands from Central America, has impeded Obama from making plans to address some portion of the 11.5 million immigrants now in this country illegally. Obama announced late last month that congressional efforts to remake the nation's dysfunctional immigration system were dead and he would proceed on his own authority to fix the system where he could.

Since then he's asked Congress for $3.7 billion to deal with the crisis of unaccompanied youths, a request that's gone unmet even as the House and the Senate scramble to see if they can vote on some solution to the crisis this week before adjourning for their annual August recess.

Meanwhile, White House officials led by Domestic Policy Council Director Cecilia Munoz and White House Counsel Neil Eggleston, along with Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, have been working to chart a plan on executive actions Obama could take, hosting frequent meetings with interest groups and listening to recommendations from immigration advocates, law enforcement officials, religious leaders, Hispanic lawmakers and others.

Advocates and lawmakers who were in separate meetings Friday said that administration officials are weighing a range of options including reforms to the deportation system and ways to grant relief from deportation to targeted populations in the country, likely by expanding Obama's two-year-old directive that granted work permits to certain immigrants brought here illegally as youths. That program, called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, has been extended to more than 500,000 immigrants so far.

Good on Rick Perry for mobilizing the National Guard. If you think about it, if the Governor of Texas has that kind of authority, he can do more to solve the illegal immigration problem than a clearly resistant President.

Spend $12 million a month to prevent hundreds of millions, if not billions, in future losses. I like it.

On the Canada diversity issue... IT can seen semester really diverse if you're in or near metro Montreal, Toronto, or Vancouver. And the oil patch. Otherwise Canada is really white.

Rains, smugglers damage US-Mexico border fence

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — U.S. Border Patrol officials said Wednesday that agents discovered a garage-sized hole through a steel fence that divides the United States and Mexico just east of Nogales, Arizona.

The announcement was the second one this week about problems with the border fence. On Sunday, agents found that runoff water from rainstorms during the weekend had also knocked down 60 feet of the rebar-reinforced steel fence just west of the Nogales-Mariposa Port of Entry near Interstate 19 in Nogales. That fence stood between 18 and 26 feet high and extended at least 7 feet underground.

"Smugglers often attempt to cut border fences; dig under them; climb over them; and even throw things over the fence," Border Patrol spokeswoman Nicole Ballistrea said in a written statement. "As the Tucson Sector continues to improve deterrence efforts along the border, smuggling organizations are finding it more difficult to move their illicit goods into the interior of the United States. Fencing infrastructure gives Border Patrol agents the time they need to stop illegal cross-border activity."

The fence was built in 2011. It is constantly monitored by agents because smugglers and others who attempt to cross illegally routinely try to breach or knock down parts of it.

The Border Patrol says it does not keep track of fence breaches or attempted breaches, but it does have a special unit devoted to finding and destroying underground tunnels used to smuggle drugs.

Whether it's cutting through steel fences with special tools or building long and elaborate tunnels, smugglers have no shortage of creative ways to try to bypass the law and sneak drugs into the U.S.
