Status update - they set a date for a "status hearing" (start date for the trial?) for July 1st.

In spite of adding a boyfriend, it looks like public opinion is souring on her the more time passes. From the article:

She's going to have a hell of a time convincing a jury that she was so clueless since, after all, she was the genius whiz kid too smart to wait until graduation to postpone the project she started in her dorm room. She had it all figured out and was waaay ahead of all those oafish corporate dinosaurs in the blood testing industry. And if she tries that fake deep voice hit in court a cross examination by a half-competent attorney should be able to chew her to pieces, exposing her as an even bigger fraud.

She still has a pussy pass, but even then if she doesn't do any time at all for this not a lot of people will be cheering.

I think Elizabeth Holmes is going to get crucified. There will be no "pussy pass" for her.

Her crimes are not limited to "conning" investors. She deceived health regulators (both CA and Fed) and endangered patients. She also put her attorney up to threatening doctors (in Arizona) who did blood testing for patients with competing test labs (LabCorp, etc.) because they did not trust the results of the Theranos tests. Some of these were cancer patients who were using the results of blood tests to determine course of treatment. This is patient endangerment and is considered very serious by the regulatory authorities and the courts. She also deceived the CA health inspectors twice by taking them through the bogus lab she had set up specifically to deceive them. Government regulators do NOT like being lied to and deceived in this manner. I would be very surprised she does not do down for these things.

Personally I think David Boies, the high powered attorney who was on Therano's board and who went around intimidating the doctors (and at least one patient!) in Arizona with legal action (this is well documented in the Carryrou book) if they said anything questionable about the validity of Theranos test results should be disbarred at minimum. I doubt this will happen, though.

I doubt that too, though a lot of the things he did that were detailed in that book definitely did not pass the smell test. His behavior didn't seem ethical, to put it mildly.

Disbarment usually requires a lawyer rip off money from a client trust account or maybe lie to a judge on something material, like Bill Clinton did. Boies could be fined or censured would be the most I'd ever expect, if even that.

The real story here is why the media was so reluctant to put her under a microscope and ask easy questions like about her voice or her Mandarin language ability.

Unfortunately they will not be tried in the court of public opinion. They will go on to tout the next snake oil salesman (or saleswoman) and the gullible public will continue to lap it up.
