It's used to remove dead skin cells from surface of the skin which reduces flaking, reduces breakouts and smoothes the skin texture which can make it look younger. I just view it as giving your skin a deeper cleanse.

It's not absolutely necessary, I suggest getting one of those free samples usually handed out in many places try it out 1-2 times a week and see if you like it.

My understanding was that the act of shaving is a way of exfoliating in and of itself. Am I wrong?

^^^Yes, shaving is a form of exfoliating, however, you're only shaving where facial hair grows. This means youre missing spots like the nose,cheeks and forehead.

I use the Clarisonic Mia. I really like it and it makes my skin look good after using it. I use it 1-2x a week before shaving and it makes shaving a lot easier.

Not sure if exfoliating is necessary but you can definitely make your skin smoother and shinier. A good diet with lots of tomatos, carrots, beets, and good oils like oils from fish and plenty of water will help on skin tone.

Occasionally at night I pour some salt into my hand and mix it with hot water and rub it on my face. Scrub it around and rinse it off. You will immediately notice your skin is smoother since you have removed some layer or portion of dead skin.

Personally I don't like using products that have chemicals but you can do this with any small resource, like salt, sugar, or sand if you live in a coastal area. I have mixed honey and brown sugar as well, let it sit on my face for a bit, and then washed it off. Do it on your lips too. Your girls will notice the difference.

If you suffer from dry skin in the winter or whenever, coconut oil or castor oil are good to massage into your skin. Basically any natural oil, I just mention those two because I have experience with them.

Any thoughts on getting rid of wrinkles/frown lines?

I've always looked young for my age but I recently had some frown lines set in which is annoying and starting to give my age away a bit more.

Botox. I just got my second session, and I love the results. Make sure you get it done by a legit doctor, not some half assed esthetician or nurse's aide or whatever.

Also, a couple weeks ago I changed up the skincare products I use. I now use mostly products from Lush (https://www.lush.com), they are an English company that makes all of their stuff fresh by hand using natural/organic ingredients. Somewhat expensive, but not completely ridiculous, and the quality is really really good. My skin feels a lot calmer and relaxed, and people say I have a good complexion, youthful appearance, etc.

No offense to VVVV, but I would start with prescription retinol (tretinoin) first as botox is a more serious commitment. I've been using 0.5% strength tretinoin for almost a month, and my fine lines are disappearing fast. It'll take up to six months to start noticing real results. Check out before-and-after photos of people who have used it. Definitely noticeable, and it also increases collagen in your face plus makes your pores shrink.

You'll need prescription-strength stuff, so you'll have to get your doctor/dermatologist to write you a script. Totally worth it, supposedly the OTC stuff doesn't cut it.

Frown lines may reduce a little bit with tretinoin, but the heavy hitter is a filler, like Juvederm. Again, since you're probably young, I'd first suggest another tactic, which is supplementing with hyaluronic acid. Aliblahba has a good thread on this. I've supplemented with a Japanese brand in the past and definitely noticed some results, although not earth-shattering.

Welcome to the club of getting older. May you age gracefully. This will unfortunately require a lot of money and wearing sunscreen all the time.

What I do:

1. I put Dead Sea mud on my face (Ahava is good, but any will do, depending on budget) every morning and evening - apply to your face, let is stay for like 5 minutes, then take it off with warm water.

(if you have pimples, the first step alone will massacre them, first hand experience).

2. Scrub you face with a towel hard, and put some Nivea on your face (once the situation with the pimples improves), to keep your face hydrated.

my problem is my forehead. Its lots of little pimples under the skin. Not noticable apart from up very close. A friend reccomended dermorolling but I've heard mixed opinions on that.

Botox is really not a big deal at all. It is remarkably effective and close to zero risk unless you get a bargain basement pseudo profesional to inject you.

It is not a one shot cure all though, you need to use it in combination with other things for maximum results.

I combine it with a pre hyaluronic acid supplement, mesotherapy (injections of vitamins directly into the subcutaneous layer), a good serum, a good moisturizer, a good exfoliator (2x per week), a good sunscreen when I'll be outside for a while, a night cream that has hyaluronic acid and other ingredients, and a good eye contour cream.

I'll be 36 in 3 months and people think I'm 27 or so.

This thread is full of gold, but I am almost a little overwhelmed.

- I am 29 and would like to best preserve my skin as possible.

- I get facial dandruff and the dermo recommended a facial wash that has cleared it up. I use it once per day.

- SPF 110 oil-free lotion in morning.

- I was thinking of using cetaphil for washing my face before bed.

- Followed by a salycic acid exfoliator (Aveda) as I get very bad blackheads.

- One per week, I'll do a deep cleanse with Indian heeling clay.

- I currently use Cerave as my facial moisturiser. I think my skin is better for it but open to suggestions for a better lotion.


Should I add a Hyaluronic acid serum at night?

I plan to go to the dermo this week for some tips and maybe to get some blackhead extractions as I can't get the fuckers out!

Can anyone add any thoughts/suggestions to my routine? Would love some help

To reduce your pimples/acne, reduce your intake of dairy products. It worked for me big time.

Everyone has different skin type, so scrubbing your face I don't recommend.

Saunas are good for opening your pores, followed by a cold shower.

I know it has been said already but Coconut oil has been the best all round moisturizer I have ever used.

How about Shea butter? I've found that Shea butter works best for me, and lasts the longest. I use it in the winter, but use aloe Vera gel in the summer when it's humid.

I finally bit the bullet and bought the Activated Charcoal Sponge that Chris from GLL suggests here.



For $8.90 - well worth the money. I've been struggling with forehead acne lately, and I'm already noticing them fading. The sponge is soft as fuck, so you can rub it on big pimples without worry of popping or irritating them. It comes with a suction cup for you to hang it up with, too. Highly recommended.

Not sure if Anyone mentioned it before but perhaps a path to better skin would be the gallon water everyday. It detoxes your body and hydrates your skins which free ups a lot of oil and pores. I am on day 3 downing almost a gallon everyday and kept refilling it and downing. So far broken out a lot more than usual, perhaps it's cleansing out the bad pores, don't know.

I have dry skin. Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the best thing that I've used. From a quick google search, other people laud it for its squalene content. That might be at least part of the reason why it works. I use it mainly around my eyes, on my forehead, and on my upper cheeks. Pour a little in a small bowl, dab a finger, and rub it in.

As an added bonus, it's inexpensive. Though, you have to research which brands are tested to be pure olive oil. There are only two at my local large supermarket. Adulterated oil is more common than not. Though unadulterated oil isn't any more expensive at my market.

Quick takes:

-Did the GLL facial mask today with half/half ACV/water instead of all water, wow, game changer. It made the consistency thicker and more cream-like. Before the powders would just kind of ball up before you spread it on your face. Now it spreads easier.

-I was cleaning out my "things bitches leave at my house" drawer, and found a small moisturizing cream like this. Scooped out the cream, ran some hot water and ACV through it, boom. Now I have a way to take coconut oil on the road.

I drink a gallon or more every day, and it definitely makes my skin more vibrant, although I do still get slight blemishes. That's probably more to do with my high dairy diet or washing my face to much though. I'm astonished when people tell me they don't drink water at all, or only drink one or two glasses a day. Forget the skin benefits. How does their body even function?

Usually a week of concentrating on at least 3litres of water per day, very minimal sugars and lots and lots of green leafy vegetables clears my skin up alot.
I find that when im eating alot if sugars i get more pimples coming up on the surface, and when i have lots of dairy i see alot more blemishes.

I think I will try this. For $9 its nothing.
Lately I've been dealing with pimples under the surface on my forehead. Not noticable from a distance, but when up close theres loads and loads of tiny under the surface pimples

I know I bump the GLL facial mask often, but this shit works and it's cheap as hell. I'm running low on the Aztec Clay and went to amazon to buy some more...I bought my last container May 2015. The mix lasted a year, for $10.

I don't think the charcoal and green tea are as necessary, so if you're skeptical I suggest buying the clay and doing clay + ACV. Trust me.

I've been using African black soap morning and night for a month now, my skin is clear but red. Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe it differs by brand - some more harsh than others?

Also, has anyone found an under eye product that actually improves this area? I've tried loads over the years and feel that my eyes are always a bit tired looking regardless of what I use. I've noticed some recommendations for Oz Naturals products on the forum, can anyone confirm that this gives better results when compared against similar products?
