RE: Ebola Pandemic 2014
The social/cultural decline of our nations is what enables the plague.
Look at us; HIV has been a known threat for 30 years, its transmission is crude and easy to block, and yet it's still running rampant in our countries. *This* is what degeneracy looks like - a culture that's unable to curtail itself, or the individuals who are engaged in an uncommon behaviour which is a major vector of transmission.
This is why Ebola is a threat: because we lack the moral fortitude to acknowledge existential threats, let alone deal with them. If it's not Ebola, it's going to be something else.
It's 1340 all over again.

RE: Ebola Pandemic 2014
Quote:At least eight Ebola aid workers and journalists were reportedly murdered and dumped in a latrine in a remote village in Guinea in a frightening example of the growing distrust locals have of foreigners coming to help stem the mushrooming health crisis.
These deaths are believed to be the first resulting from resistance to international efforts to curb the Ebola outbreak in the region, Reuters reported. Other aid teams have been forced to turn back by crowds in several locations, and a treatment center in Monrovia, Liberia was attacked and looted.
Villagers in an area near the city of Nzerekore used machetes and clubs to attack eight members of a team trying to raise awareness about the disease, officials told the BBC.
"The eight bodies were found in the village latrine," Albert Damantang Camara, a spokesman for Guinea's government, told Reuters on Thursday, adding that they had been "killed in cold blood by the villagers."
Prime Minister Fofana reported that the aid mission included "local administrators, two medical officers, a preacher and three accompanying journalists." They were reportedly attacked by a large crowd, throwing stones, from the village of Wome.
The delegation had arrived on Tuesday to do disinfection work and educate people about preventing Ebola, but residents pelted them with rocks and beat them, according to the Los Angeles Times, citing Guinean radio reports. The group fled into the bush. One journalist who escaped said she heard people looking for her while she hid, according to the BBC.

yeah I doubt that the people affected by this disease can afford to travel. This is probably affecting africans who live in remote or poorer areas, I don't think africans with money are getting this disease and if they do, they will likely die before they board on the plane.
You want to retract that now Pitt?
This is why we can't have nice things in the west. I see that Polio is spreading in Europe again now. Also due to immigration. Multi-resistant stomach bugs. Also due to immigration.

If you want your mind blown, do a Google Images search for "Ebola Chan" or look up articles on the topic. This is the latest 4chan troll job. Basically, they are trolling the shit out of everyone that there is a white cult worshiping a new goddess called Ebola Chan who wants to eradicate Africans. They make fan art and take photos of supposed shrines to her, etc. It went viral (no pun intended) when a Nigerian forum picked up on the conspiracy theory that Western doctors in Africa are actually trying to infect people, rather than help them. This is some next level trolling, at once both horrifying and hilarious.

Goodness, that's really irresponsible. Trolling overeducated feminists who are supposed to know better to expose their hypocrisy is one thing, but trolling actual people who are affected by this crap and already prone to misinformation is just crazy. These 4chan people are overstepping themselves.
It's definitely a bit irresponsible. I haven't read this whole thread... but I saw a Vice documentary where it showed that many Africans don't even believe that Ebola is real and they joyfully continue eating their bush meat. Although, it was made before this recent outbreak.

RE: Ebola Pandemic 2014
The problem is there's no reliable method to screen passengers before they board; and only if they're sick and presenting with signs of that sickness do people even know what to look for. From the beginning, once officials the world over realized this wasn't an outbreak or hot spot like past Ebola episodes the world community should have quarantined the region, i.e. no flights in or out except aid and the African Union should have patrolled the boarders as a continent wide containment mechanism. The US should have quarantined as a matter of course and preventative policy, any passengers who had West African stamps visas and had been in the region with 21 days of their departure. I'm no health expert, but using just information from the news about the virus, we should have done the rationally logical, hard, thing and cut of the region until the infection burnt itself out. Instead, we exacerbated it by playing it down and saying it was going to be alright whereas they could've nipped it in the bud from the start.

There is no one "4chan people" though. 4chan is a collection of anonymous imageboards. Most boards hate every other board on the site, and /pol/, where most of these stories have been coming from recently, is made up of at least five vague factions who spend as much time trolling eachother as they do everyone else. Hell, this "ebola-chan" thing seems to be as much about trolling /x/ (the paranormal board) as it is being edgy. A post from /x/:
Whilst it's nice to able to pin an identity to behaviours you do and don't like, the bottom line is that 4chan receives over 20,000,000 unique visitors per month, and this "ebola-chan" fad is the work of a few hundred, maybe a few thousand people. I guess my point is, it will be very difficult for anyone unfamiliar with imageboard culture to accurately interpret the information they're getting, especially when their primary source is the mainstream media.
Incidentally (slightly off-topic) if anyone was in any doubt as to where moot's allegiance lies, note how he has done nothing about the hundred ebola-chan threads per day, nor did he do anything when /pol/ were circulating horrendously racist comics with the signature of Ben Garrison (a supposed "libertarian" comic artist who called for laws against hate speech) added into them. Yet threads on gamer-gate were banned for "encouraging harassment".
