Good thread idea, somehow I missed it before.

Any guys working on a regular schedule looking to get in better shape and learn some bjj should check out Legends MMA. It's affiliated with Gracie Barra and their ground game is top notch with plenty of rolling opportunities with senior members, the instructor did a stint in ufc's ultimate fighter before getting injured and is a legit brown belt.

The crowd isn't your typical brotard "just bleed" mma crew, most of the people are uni students with a good mix of decent looking girls. And the atmosphere shows in everything from the moment you enter the gym to sparring etc

Stand up isn't so impressive at least imo...any guy would 2-3 yrs of solid MT or boxing exp would clean up the floor there sans a few senior guys, for that you'd be better off at Hayabusa in St Albert (20-30 mins drive from Edmonton) or one of the many stand up gyms in Edmonton.

Latin dance classes are okay around town. Even ratios but slightly older women. Tumbleweeds, On the Rocks and Club XO have decent nights - go between 7 and 10. It's a sausage fest afterwards. If you dance country, Cook County has a better crowd and offers free classes on some nights with decent ratios.

Highly recommend yoga - great recovery work from the field. Low key chill environment with tons of talent and almost no competition. Some good studios on Whyte. Out of the ones I've tried, Sattva is probably the best one. Lotus Soul is another pretty good one.

If you are a musician, Giovonni on the west end and Resonate in the north side have pretty good instructors and flexible lessons plans.

Best climbing gym in Edmonton would be Rock Jungle Fitness. They also offer cross-fit and yoga. It's on the west side. There is a wall at the UoA and Vertically Inclined, but they are relatively crowded.

Safeway and Save On in downtown are good places to game in the early evening, lots of young people in the area. River Valley is good too, if you can lang a dog-walker gig, it would vastly increase your opportunities IMO.

For martial arts, outside of the MMA sphere, Panther is good for boxing though it's a very large class. KPC has a great Krav Maga class that I found useful. For fencing, Sparta is pretty good.

If you are looking to improve your language skills, there are some decent Russian and Spanish tutors in the area. They'll run you about $30 for an hour. Meet-up has a Spanish and French group that has regular events.

There are some pretty good music festivals in town during the year. Last year Armin and Deadmau5 rolled in. Buy your tickets early, the ratios are great and its a good time. You're almost guaranteed that if there is a party at the expo center, all the bars will be devoid of talent whether it is Whyte or Jasper.

Anybody know of some good cigar bars in town?

I was going to Sattva too but once the cheap first month trial is up it gets quite expensive. Its a 100 a month after that, minimum three months. Plus if you leave town they don't put it on hold. I was kind of disappointed cause I was loving it there but I am not going to pay that when I leave so often.

I seen a new looking Cigar shop on whyte between Hudsons and the Pint, I think close to the Red Square. Haven't been inside but looks like a good spot.

Don't go to snap fitness, the heaviest db's they have there are like 60's or 70's. It's not enough for benching.

I can also vouch for the quality of The Sattva Yoga Loft. Tons of hotties there too... good place to pick up healthy chicks, and older ones too, the green tea drinking, kale eating type chicks.

If you guys are looking for more effective night game venue, hit up bars that are more isolated. The women are less likely to bar hop away. Likelihood of a one night stand is pretty good in my experience.

Holy shit.

I just brought a girl for a walk over the high level bridge as a first date activity. We got attached by mosquitos. I was bleeding by the end and have blood stains all over my tshirt.

Pretty sure I wont be recovering from this. She was a super cute black girl too.

I was paranoid about Dengue fever and Malaria in the Philippines and got mosquito repellent shirts and pants from LL Bean. Don't laugh, they worked, the mosquitos would hover around the the embedded repellent in the cloth would confuse them and they would kind of not be able to figure out where to attack you. repellent on hands and face and one of those shirts and you're pretty good.

One of the shops today, we got attacked, too. I would fucking quit if I was a welder there.

Another shop told us their night shift is just completly getting attacked by them.

Guys the mosquitoes here are ridiculous I've noticed. In the last week, especially.

Me and my buddy hit it quite hard last weekend but ever since then we have both felt really bad.

I had the cold sweats and shits at work and had to come home early. Also I didnt go in for two days. I feel like I'm after getting an infection from a mosquito. I feel dizzy , nauseous , very low energy flu like symptoms etc.

Anyone else have this?

I have got Asian fever. I seen so many hot young Asian girls yesterday on the Ave. They always dress the best too.

Damn I'm envious of the guys who work in town during the summer. Lots of talent.

The huge thing I've noticed since I got here is that the girls here respond very well to accents. I've a strong Dublin accent and every single chick turns crazy when they hear it. I don't even have to game. Being different from the pack is crucial here. Had about 4 bangs in 2 months and two are now regulars, and I'm not even going out or trying. Win!

Was also down for 3 days with the same thing you mentioned: dizzy, nauseous and flu like feeling. Couldn't even stand at one point, no appetite and tired with low energy. Went to the pharmacy yesterday and got some pills which worked quiet nicely. I'll post the name of it later as I'm out on the ave now.

Can confirm that there's some good talent on the ave but I'm getting indifferent to white girls and have only eyes for the Asians who are way better dressed and by far more feminine.

Anyone else feeling the same?

Thought I'd throw this idea out there since Atlantic mentioned it and a few forum members I've spoken to are down too.

Instead of having our meetups at the bar, where due to long tables not everyone can socialize properly and the fact we just sit around and talk over drinks; let's have more active meetups.

There are around 20 of us here now. I'm sure we can get a crew to go play paintball or airsoft for a few hours. There are some cool golf simulators around town where you can rent them out and have drinks at the same time. Hell we could even have a soccer or basketball game at any of the public spaces.

On a side note, I'll be getting my hunting license soon aside from fishing. If anyone of you guys happen to hunt or fish, let me know.

^^I'm down for some paint ball or something like that this weekend, I should be driving south to Etown on Saturday, I'm not sure where there's a paint ball place in Edmonton but I know that there's one in Boyle, about two hours north. Sunday afternoon would probably be better for me, if we can figure something out, I have room for three guys in my truck.

I'm looking into doing my firearm safety course this fall and want to do some hunting once the season opens up in November, there's some really good ice fishing in Alberta too, but I might not be around when its that cold!

Scotian; there are 4 paintball spots around town. Average cost is around $40. The locations are Spruce Grove, Downtown, Southside and near Wabamun Lake.

So far it looks like 6 are in on it. We can reserve for Sunday. Otherwise we can call ahead and just do walk-ons.

Most of the firearms safety courses are actually booked until November; some may have mid-week courses but I doubt it. You can challenge the exam at WEM. It's $100 and they give you the books.

You can do the hunting license online; they have some solid question banks.

Guys I won't be able to make it this weekend, I was asked to worked an extra week today and since I suffer from the Golden Handcuffs syndrome, I said yes. I forgot that until I'm actually in Edmonton, I can't really commit to anything, which isn't always a given either as I drove down there last month, only to have to drive back that same night, ten hours!

I'm finally moving into my condo in the city in the next week or two, which will be good as I'll be around the city more often and able to come out with you guys to do stuff like this, have fun!
