I have a financial decision to make soon. I am currently a second year university student (22 years old), I have been working and saved up a sum of money, around half of it will be going towards a travel trip which me and my friend have planned for the last three years. The rest of it I was going to use to save, as a lot of advice I hear from senior Red pillers, is to save up a "fuck you fund".

However recently I have found out about this bodyguard training course going on in Eastern Europe. This would give me a certificate and experience I really could use for future employment. However if I go for this, It would mean that all my saved up money is gone. Leaving me with just enough to set me up for accommodation for next year, until my student loan comes in. This won't put me into the financial shithouse, as I will have funding in time for university and there is speculation for some kind of income later in the year.

So to sum up, should I spunk all my money to go for an experience of a lifetime, or should I use this money to save. I am posting this question, because I don't want to get into the cycle of making bad financial decisions.

Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Which career do you want to earn money in long term, bodyguarding or whatever the university degree allows?

I say take the trip, continue saving and take the bodyguarding course later. Focus on school, the future income opportunity you mentioned, and chicks.

You sound like a smart, long-term planner. Working hard, saving up, and planning a trip with a good friend are all good moves.

Thanks, Political/security risk consultancy; even if it the body guarding qualification is necessary, it would be a good experience.

Save the $$$. You need to have 6 months of living expenses saved away at all times. This is your OH SHIT (INSERT CALAMITY HERE) fund. Then, save up another 6 months to a year of living expenses for your FUCK YOU fund to be used when something like this opportunity comes up or you decide to pull the ejection ring on whatever situation you are in.

Having these two funds....and others for purposes of retirement, entrepreneurship, investment, etc. give you FREEDOM. The FREEDOM to live your life on your terms.....not you parent's terms......not your bosses' terms.....not society's terms -- YOUR TERMS.

Just my $.02 as an elder guy who's been there.

We went over your chances of getting a job in a private security company in another thread. My opinion was: zero.

Also, be aware that the school might just be a scam and the training won't be as cool as their slickly produced marketing videos and website shows.

My verdict is save your money.

That EE "school" sounds like a ripoff gig for gullible Westerners.

Avoid this one at all costs.

If you want to visit EE, just do it on your own. You don't need those scammers to show you anything.

Thanks for the advice, I will probably just save my money then. Go for some official training through a company.

On the other hand, not many people are willing to hire ex cops.

Bodyguard school sounds like it would be on par with bartending school. A better option would be for you to join the military SF/SO. You get the experience you need, you get paid for it, and your school is free.

In this economic climate, I'd recommend saving your money.

I have seen this theme recurring a lot. Police officers are happy when they first join, until five years into the job. When they become irritable, fed up with the bureaucracy, red tape; having to deal with the unsavoury elements of society.
