Australia for the most part, Melbourne and Sydney are sort of cool in some ways, but again there are way more interesting places in the world.

Coming from Norway it just felt like like south american Norway. Expensive. The people were a bit cold. Girls were VERY into their social groups. I didn't think the food were all that good. The best steak I got there was made by an american. The best red wine I drank was made by a couple who had their own winery. Restaurants were just ok. Nothing more.

I visited BA, Rosario, Mendoza and Cordoba over the course of a month.

Well for pickup yes, but Bali is presented to most people as heaven in every other way. yet, even in the southernmost outskirts, the amount of tourists was *suffocating*. Pretty sad. Barcelona. Witnessed several people a day get pick-pocketed. Just felt paranoid the whole time I was there, and not to mention I had my luggage stolen 2 weeks into my 3 month Euro trip.

I don't give a shit how beautiful or romantic a place is, if I can't walk down a street without constantly looking over my shoulder - not my kind of city.

Also the women had nothing on the Eastern European counterparts - both in behavior and appearance.

I've found that pretty much any tourist site that I've seen hundreds of times in photos is usually pretty underwhelming. Once exception is the Great Wall of China - not Baidaling (the place everyone goes) but the places that haven't been properly restored. That was pretty awe-inspiring.

Definitely agree about Versailles. OP is right, when I went there were Chinese tour groups clogging every room, then shoving their way through to the next room. Meanwhile barking away in Mandarin. There really are some beautiful rooms in there, but the environment made it hard to enjoy.

Also agree about Australia. Place is overpriced and overrated. Just a bunch of convicts. The only reason I would want to go there is to scuba...even then, you could just do Hawaii which is half the distance.

Don't understand the hate about Barcelona though. I found it much more relaxed and fun than Madrid, which is just too much city for me. I don't know. Maybe my perceptions are skewed because of all the beautiful topless girls I saw at the beach or the place where I got a liter of wine and paella for 15 euro. I also love the spanish way. Nap in the afternoon, dinner at 10 PM, then go out until 5 AM. Love it.

Jakarta. I seriously doubt I will ever visit a city that beats it for comprehensive shitness. It was like the city was the result of a civil and social engineering challenge to 'see how bad we can really make somewhere'. Ugh.

Generally don't have a problem with underwhelming travel experiences, because I religiously avoid tourist traps. Unless there is something particularly poignant or cool about a place, or something fun to do there, I won't visit. 'Oh yay, look we're in a temple because it was on a list. Fucking exciting.'

I love tourist traps - they attract the tourists away from everything else. Perhaps that is their purpose, the local government creates them to keep foreigners away from local people and places.

Specifically, the Killing Fields I found a bit underwhelming, because it's incredibly difficult to feel just how fucked up that place was. Despite only a few decades ago being the scene of unbelievable attrocity (esp. the 'Killing Tree'), it now just looks like a garden. You can't really 'feel' there is something terrible about the place, something which I assumed I would.

Also people don't do Australia right. There is absolutely no reason to be in an Australian city unless you are earning money. They have zero benefits over anywhere else. Just expensive, restrictive, and boring places.

If you are travelling to Australia it should be for the land and the weather. You could go 4WDriving or dirt biking into the bush. You could go to the beaches. You could go to the flat red deserts. You could ride horses. You could hire a boat. You could go camping. You could canoe down creeks etc.

I know someone who loved his 2 years of travel in Australia - but he did both of the above. He loved the outback and he spent a lot of time there, plus he got a job working in a warehouse near the mining areas.

'Oh yay we're briefly looking at an old Opera house with a unique design, totally worth the enormous cost and effort of coming here'. Give me a break.

It is almost blasphemy in my mind to dislike Jakarta. I really loved the place due to my Caucasian acquired rockstar status. Though I did meet a RVF gentlemen, who despite being better looking and more exspirienced in game than I, was getting blowouts and such merely for not being white. The girls there really are mostly about the status whoring for dating/fucking white dudes. The city planning and traffic are also fubar to the credit of what you said.

Also I never made it to the fields as I spent all of stay in Cambodia in Phnom Phen but I did really like Tol Sleng. It really did give me a rush of negativity. Truly I found that particular exsperience to be quite powerful.


To avoid derailing the thread I will share my dislike of my time spent in Montreal. It was the first international trip I took and though the talent was high and it is a pretty cool city; my game level was below that required to get laid. I was also unprepared for anglophobia and dealing with my mistaken belief that I would not be shown outright rudeness it ended with a bruised ego for me. However now that I am more experienced as a traveler/player I think will return there sometime.

The girls aren't great looking and it is very difficult to find a beach in or relatively near the city.

Mexican resorts. I have been to Cabo and Puerto Vallarta. Maybe I haven't been to the super high end, but the ones I've been to could have been in Kentucky or Ohio. The best Mexican experiences I have had have been in cities and towns off the beaten path, who are now pretty dangerous like Mazatlan and Acapulco.

Reno NV. Thought it might be a charming alternative to Vegas. Instead it was a depressing hole and kinda dead.

Nearby Lake Tahoe is beautiful though. Drove around the whole lake, and dropped by the now-closed CalNeva hotel/casino, where the rat pack used to hang out back in their heyday. A lot of playa history there..

I didn't like Rome at all. It is absolutely crowded with tourists, really hot in the summer (90+, with no water available cheaper than 3 euros anywhere), and after you see the most famous landmarks (Coliseum, Spanish Steps, etc), it just gets boring. The Vatican was equally underwhelming - packed to the brim with tourists, and they basically herd you through it like a flock of sheep. I'm sure I missed some of the best bars, but the ones I went to weren't anything special, with plenty of 5s and almost no 8+ girls.

I will second panama city.

I couldn't wait to get out of there despite having high hopes initially for the place. Other parts of panama were better. I didn't like the heavy north american influence, and dangerous dirty feel of the city. Only tourist attraction is a canal that takes a half-hour to see. Lack of a good beach nearby was also an unpleasant surprise. Most of the hottest girls there are colombian, local girls in the city were nothing special and hot ones had attitude.

Catching the ferry there is essentially choosing to imprison yourself on an island full of relentless touts, standoffish Italian tourists, and scammers dressed up as Massai tribesman. Oh, and the nightlife sucks.

Granted, the sand on the beaches is great, if you can find some free space.

Costa Rica has a good reputation for being an eco-tourism destination, so I was excited to go. But, upon arrival in San Jose (my first time in Latin America), I found it all rather underwhelming.

I'm sure that it's cool exploring volcanoes and venturing into the jungle, but it's cool for you and every other gringo.

I'm not one for pre-packaged tours and being guided around by the locals for money, but that seems to be what you've gotta do if you go to Costa Rica to see what it's known for.

Besides eco-tourism, there's not a whole lot of interesting fanfare in Costa Rica. No culture, no great literature or music, ho-hum populace leading uneventful lives... A peaceful, even-tempered place that has found its way in a chaotic world, for which I am impressed. But I'd rather go to Colombia.

Thailand was a great place to hang out last year. But it was total rubbish for dating. Definitely not the man's paradise my dad's generation found it to be. And the beer wasn't even that cheap, in fact British supermarkets have better offers!!!

My biggest surprise last year was finding out how enjoyable Kuala Lumpur was. Malaysia is definitely underrated.

From what I hear, it has delicious and cheap food, and great beaches, but conservative and ho-hum women. And it's too hot.
