Greetings from Vienna. The link points to a short video report about sex and couchsurfing; the author poses the question "Is couchsurfing becoming the new sex app?" Pretty sure at 2:58 in the video is the author herself. She does not exactly impress...

As a CS user of seven years who has stayed with dozens of surfers and hosted hundreds, I also have my concerns about the cultural drift taking place in the community (I hate calling it a "community," I feel like a SWPL ditz, but it gets the point across), however my concerns are not based on the tragedy of women getting free lodging and attention and then complaining about "creeps" who, go figure, want to have sex.

No time to delve more in to this subject right now but I thought I'd bring this video to your attention. I will say that I have no problem with girls deciding to stay just with other girls--but as usual segregation by sex will only ever be tolerated if it benefits women, never men. From my impression, the way things are going on CS, the average guy out there with an earnest interest in CS's stated purpose faces a harder time using it as such than he used to, and some of the management's decisions have contributed to that.

Wasn't couch surfing henorrhaging money as of last year?

Their management has made some truly disastrous quality-of-product and business decisions (they are related).

I have hosted a fair amount but it's not worth it to me any more.

I notice that when viewing profiles I know right away who is an older member.

Blah blah I like to travel, I am open-minded, the same boring university-educated liberal sycophants - but the older members just stand out. They'll indicate a preference for alternative lifestyles, drugs, etc.

I have met some okay people through CS but generally you'll meet people more worth your time elsewhere.

And yeah, as a guy who tried to host and uphold what used to be the mission of CS, it's not really worth hosting Westerners any more. The bros are feminine and blue pill, and the girls are chubby and delusional. Sometimes people from poorer countries are okay - I had some really great hosts in China. I taught my Chinese surfer some game principles and he was receptive.

My experience with coushsurfing is that its populated by otherwise cool people that are just too socially retarded to interact normally with people outside their comfort zones. The kind of people that would have been bullied in grade school had anyone ever talked to them.

I don't host anymore, but the site really went downhill in the last couple years starting with the whole site makeover when they transitioned to a for-profit company. Their main agenda became growth of membership rather than quality of members. So you ended up having a lot of people with poorly filled out profiles, flakey people who would confirm they were coming then never show up, people acting entitled. Of course the whole hookup thing has been going on from day one, but now you have a lot of dudes that are there solely for that reason and spamming every chic that posts a request. Speaking of which, that's another thing that fucked it up, the open couch request. After that was introduced, my personal couch requests plummeted. I once set up a fake profile of a cute though not stunning blonde girl and made an open couch request in both NYC and LA. Just wanted to see the messages dudes send. I think it got like 100 offers between the two cities. Not even one offer was from a female. So many of the dudes were blatantly trying to hook up, offering rides around town in a convertible, easy access to top nightclubs, etc. I can actually see how daunting it would be for a chic if she just wants to couchsurf for genuine reasons and maybe be open to hook up with a dude if he's cool, but don't want a guy looking at her like fresh meat the moment she walks through the door. Or assuming that she owes sex just because she's staying there.

I have met many of what we might call 'confident betas.' Completely blue pill, would never think of themselves as players, aren't players, these guys do have substantial interests/studies, work out and stay in shape, might play in a band, and not uncommonly they have good-looking, sweet, and talented girlfriends. They're not socially dominant types but not socially retarded either, and I tend to enjoy the company of such people.

My hosts in Munich and Vienna last week both fall into this category, and they also introduced me to solid bang prospects. Bad logistics and a short schedule spoiled the fun, making this my first no-bang visit to Europe, but I still enjoyed making out and conversing with pretty, easygoing chicks—moreso than some girls at home that did bang.

I agree completely with everything speakeasy said, except I still host. The open couch thing is retarded, in addition to what speakeasy said about it it turns the site into a popularity contest. I don't use it.

What really fucked up CS was the open couch request.

While before you would only be able to spam girls in case you were going to travel (which does not happen every day), now there are thirsty guys who on a daily basis send messages to girls, asking to host them.

This spoils the messages that normal guys send. By normal guys I mean ppl who of course want to have sex with the girls, but if that doesn't happen they are not hard pressing, are cool and still want to enjoy the experience and the company of the girls. It's really weird, girls tell me stories of guys who approach guests in their homes as if they'd be at a dance floor at 5.00 a.m with a vodka glass in their hands.

Also, the whole philosophy of us having to send the message to the girl asking them to stay at our place is very beta if compared with the original scheme - this also does not help much.

CS would be real dope if they got rid of their open couch request and if you could somehow ban the real creepy guys. Thirsty turkish and indian guys who bomb girls daily. Met some real dope guys though also from CS, some cool cats I would definitely go out with on a daily basis. Separate the wheat from the chaff.

On a side note: Swooped a fellow cs tourist. Put a message out on who wanted to hang and she sent me her contact details. Probably the easiest bang in a long, long time.
