Flights
I am trying to fly to Cali for a business conference to arrive in Santa Clara for at least 1pm PST on the 4th of March 2011.

I finish work at 5pm on 3rd of March and consequently took the 4th off.

I can either head to Buffalo on the 3rd March to catch an late flight and arrive at San Jose in the AM of the 4th..OR..

I can catch a flight from Buffalo on the AM and arrive in San Jose in time to get to the conference in Santa Clara before 1pm.

I am having grave problems finding a reasonable flight there.

It'll only be there for 2.5 days (with swooping plans for the evening) and I don't want to break out stupid cake for such a short duration of stay.

My plan is to go to Buffalo and fly from there (I reside in Toronto).
Pearson airport prices are unreasonably expensive.

But I can't find any flights from Buffalo from that departure window that will get me there at a reasonable time.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

RE: Flights
Flying into the smaller San Francisco Bay Area airports (Oakland/San Jose/Sacramento) are always more expensive because It's less airlines flying to those locations and less competition. Try flying YYZ/BUF to SFO and see what you can pull up. You should be able to get some solid deals.

RE: Flights
Which airline sites you check the flights on? Some airlines like Southwest, Virgin America and JetBlue are not available on most search sites, so you need to check with them directly.

International Swagger is right that the flights to SFO are cheaper, but they're typically not that much cheaper. Make sure you take other costs into account. For example, if you're not renting a car, and staying in Santa Clara, the cab costs will likely to exceed the difference in a ticket price - expect to pay around $100 from SFO to Santa Clara.

RE: Flights
You could definitely navigate some public transportation to santa clara from SFO if you have time. Shared Airport Vans shouldnt run you more than $40 one way from SFO and plenty to choose from at SFO you can price them in advance.

You might want to check out a site called Hipmunk. You can sort flights by price, # of stops, departure time, arrival time, duration and something called agony which takes into account price, duration and # of stops. It actually includes JetBlue in the search results (but not southwest).

It was $45 for me last time I used it, but the van was full of people dropping in San Mateo and Palo Alto, so it took almost two hours to get there. Next time I'd rather take BART to Milbrae and Caltrain instead.
