Hey all, I'll be going for a new degree next year after a year of traveling, and I need some insight into where I should be headed. I'm currently in New York, but I need to get out.

I've narrowed down a list of universities which I would like to apply to next fall (Fall 2015, currently taking the year off from school) for graduate studies.

I would be doing my work in environmental policy and sustainable development, and I would like to know if anyone on this forum had any sort of insight into the universities which I would be applying to. I've done extensive research on the different cities, but I've only been to one (Paris). If anyone has any knowledge of these cities and the schools to which I would be applying, I would be grateful.

Honestly, the only reason why I'm leaving America is because I'm so disillusioned by everything. Europe fits me better anyway after spending so much time over there.

Here's the short list:
Sciences Po Paris, Paris, France
Central European University, Budapest, Hungary
University of Helsinki, Helsinki, Finland
Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden

If anyone has any insight on these cities, I would be grateful. It would also be helpful to anyone wishing to visit these student-filled cities.

Don't really know how the student scene is in those places.
However, some of those cities are expensive, and some not so much.

Do you have a budget of some kind that will have an impact on where you will
stay?

Yes, around $15,000 USD which is near 11-12,000 euro.

I realize Paris and Sweden are the two most expensive options here.

Budapest by a landslide.

You will be surrounded by countries that have great pussy.

Hungary is generally a lot cheaper than the other places listed.

Personally, Paris would intrigue me and I could improve my French. The country has a lot to offer in terms of culture etc.

I like Scandi countries but the winters are brutal, I am in Canada so go figure. They are also expensive.

I wonder where the cheapest place in Europe would be to study. I looked around after my Poland trip. I have a deep interest in WW2. Though I doubt a lot of hot undergrads are going to take WW2 history classes. But it would definitely be a way to get into social circle game.

It's far cheaper to study in eastern europe, if you don't have an EU passport. You may be able to find a course in English in Estonia for a couple thousand euro. France shouldn't be expensive to study because university is subsidized by the state, even for foreigners, but nearly if not all courses are in French. Sweden has plenty of English options but without an EU passport (free education) you will have to pay high tuition rates on top of expensive living. Denmark is the same. Norway gives free tuition to all but almost all undergraduate courses are in Norwegian, and the cost of living is tremendously high. I am personally going to Belarus next year to take a year long Russian course, after which if I achieve reasonable fluency I will be able to continue studying inexpensively at a Russian institution. Poland could be another option, they offer many courses in English.

I think your best option is probably Hungary. Likely low tuition rates, low cost of living, hot girls and cool countries you can take the train to. I'm just not sure about the courses being offered in English, but if you can find what you are looking for go for it.

The issue here is the education. I really would like a degree from a great school, and unfortunately the conundrum here is that Paris and Sweden are the best options. Central European University is all in English thankfully also, along with all of the other institutions, so language isn't a problem.

Find out if you can get the subsidized normal rate of ~180 euros per year at the French one for tuition, in Sweden you will have to pay full price so like 12K+ euro just for tuition.

I'd be interested in this too. I'm looking at Poland in particular, does anybody have advice for schools there?
