The comments to the video mention the old Chuck Connors show The Rifleman as being better. It was.

A couple of years ago I watched a back to back marathon of that show all day. 25 minute episodes, with plots resolved within the 25 minutes. A couple of things struck me:

1. Lucas (the Rifleman) is a Civil War veteran and a few of the episodes deal with the aftermath of that war. One of them dealt with directly veterans' PTSD, obviously without psychobabbling about it; others allude to PTSD symptoms. Seemed to be something related to the large numbers of WWII and Korea vets who were writing, acting in, and watching the show. Sam Peckinpah was one of them.

2. Lucas guns down a bad guy almost every episode, often in front of his young son Mark. You really notice it watching the shows back-to-back, and wonder what a kid would think if his dad was killing a guy every week. Maybe that is a bit over-the-top as Alpha male father role model.
