I see the term "douche bag" a lot on the site and I'm just wondering... What exactly is a douche bag? I've always thought it means an disgusting/pervert type of person. Why are guys who wear affliction shirts/have faux hawks, muscles, etc. douche bags? Isn't it recommended that we all dress nice, keep our bodies up, stay up to date with style and hair, etc? Is there something about these guys personalities in general that give them the label? Also, aren't they the ones that seem to get the girls? lol. What is the general consensus on this?

Watch Jersey Shore. Thats all that you need to know to understand why a lot of people on this forum don't like them.

Corolla is spot-on in that video. It's basically the peacocking principle tamed down to real-world terms.

A douchebag, to me anyway, is an over-the-top idiot that wears ass-clown outfits, drives a truck with over-sized tires, and acts like he can kick everyone's ass. It's really one of those I'll-know-it-when-I-see-it type of situations but, generally speaking, things like Affliction t-shirts, bottle service, and EXCESSIVE body-building physiques correlate highly in that community. It's not just about WHAT they do (in terms of hairstyle or clothes), it's how they do it. It's a caricature, rather than an original look or style.

Sure, there's a regular guy out there with muscles and an Ed Hardy t-shirt that ISN'T a douche, but it's the exception rather than the rule in my experience.

I certainly woulnd't recommend acting stuck up or making other feel lesser. However, being able to look nice in an Affliction shirt or afford bottle service is not a bad thing. That video showed some guys who were obviously trying waaaay too hard. However, I think the commentator was right when he said, you that to have a schtick. When it comes to women, especially younger women, it's simply better to be trendy and even a bit over the top rather than plain. You may stick to your guns as far as not wanting to be part of a fad or not wanting to give in to popular culture or commercialism, or whatever your ideal is. However, you will ultimately have less pussy! That was the message of that video anyway. It's also pretty much how I've seen life play out.

That's sort of how I feel. It comes across haterish. Also, I wouldn't go so far as to say "If you can't beant them, join them" but I do think there are qualities a person can emulate from these so called douche bags, such as paying attention to style and dress, taking care of your body, and being a little bold with your attitude and game.

I'm with G 100% here.

All of those flashy t shirts are just plain gay. Skulls, spears, gothic lettering with glitter etc. it might have been cool for a day like 3 years ago, or for an 18 y/o at a frat party but it should never be worn by a dude that has established himself what so ever.

I think that girls can be seen with guys in spite of the shirts not because of them. I mean you have to be pretty full of yourself and think you are the shit to rock an orange fake tan, blow out, sparkly shirt which means you also have the confidence to approach and talk to women. Now, what happens is, with time other dudes who are "real" start to call dudes like this on thier shit and girls also realize the confidence is unfounded in most cases.

As far as looking good...you can work out, look good and be alpha in just about anything. IMO less is more in these kinds of scenarios. If you are built, you can rock a $8 white hanes t-shirt as long as it fits well. That means not a white dress like these hip hop heads wear, and not a super tight shirt that your little brother gave you. If you are built then girls can see...wearing a shirt that cuts the circulation off your arms is overkill and makes you look like a gym rat meathead ... or gay.

I'm definitely not calling anyone on here a hater! I think most guys on here actually lean more to the player/congratulator side! Still, I feel labeling all the guys who dress like that as "douchebags" is harsh! Also, we are all somewhatr irritated when we can see men pulling women in an amount and at a level we can't, especially if we can see their success is largely due to the superficial.

To me the key word here to identify a douchebag is Poser. Douchebags usually employ multiple gimmicks or popular trends to attract attention and look cool to girls. He not only has a "Tap Out" T-shirt on, but he has a tribal arm sleeve, black on black, acting tough (9/10 times he's not), Faux hawk, bandanas, live strong braclet(ie: I love boobies) rip off, sticker on hat, etc., etc.

Then you got the white guy wearing all this and sporting a bandage on his cheek like he is Nelly, for the extreme example.

Point being the more of these douche trends you employ the bigger douche you are imo.

My friend is actually on the site. hahah! One of my other friends found it and posted it on his facebook, we haven't let him live that one down..... http://hotchickswithdouchebags.com/2010/...ost-farts/ He's all the way to the right. He's really not as douchy as he looks in the picture. He was into the rave scene for a while and the rave scene in Cali is super intense. Those guys aren't even dressed up close to as bad as 90% of the people there. But I still give hime a whole lot of shit for it. Especially because they called him an "almost fart."

Adam Carol is pretty right here if you pick up at clubs, but if you are day gaming, I don't know if I agree. If you are trying to bang club skanks, yeah, you are better off looking like a D. But if you are trying to pull a respectable girl in one of your classes, or at a bookstore, the D look probably isn't going to work as well.

I once worked with someone a few years back, an adopted Korean-American, who was just like this. His whole act was to behave like a clown and make everyone laugh at his stupid antics (e.g., bragging about how many girls he scored, cutting corners to avoid doing work), which I'm guessing diverted attention away from his greasy, unlikeable character. I'm ashamed to admit I made the mistake of trying to befriend him, thinking that underneath the retarded, clownish behavior was actually a nice, decent guy.

I soon found out that wasn't the case at all. Take away the clownish behavior and what you had left was a guy who very nasty, coarse, and slimy, and I have to say I was caught off guard. He was all about himself, with no regard or consideration for others. I don't think it's even a stretch to say that he was a bit of a sociopath.

On casual Fridays, without exception, this guy would show up at the office wearing baggy jeans, oversized t-shirts, basketball sneakers, and shuffle and drag his feet whenever he walked. He never dressed any other way.

I think it’s more than just what kind of clothes someone wears in a club. These are people with some very serious character and psychological flaws.
