I´m a black guy living in Sweden and have been to Portugal several times, and loved it. Now I thinking off to move ther and start working in Portugal for a Swedish company.
Then I was in Portugal I meet very cute girls and have no problems at all but the women that I did not get contact with was the Portugese women, all the girls I meet was France, Brazilian, American and Australian. Do any one knows how it is in Portugal then it comes to black people? Are they against interracial dating? How do I meet Portguese women then I dont like to go to bars and stuff?

I´m also a holder of a Brazilian passport (born in Brazil) so I been thinking about moving to Brazil and Belo Horizonte, in Brazil I know that racism exist and so but I dont know the portuguese to good and the culture.

Do you guys think I´m better off in Brazil or should I go for Portugal?

If you go to PT, go to Lisbon. There are many black people there from the former African colonies. In other parts of PT, there are virtually no black people. Porto, for instance, has almost no black people. And the few black people you see in Porto are likely not even Portuguese, but rather sons of Angolan oligarchs trying to convert their petrodollars into real estate or shares of Portuguese companies.

In rural PT you may find some hostility, since the older generation fought the 1961-1975 colonial war in the former African colonies of Angola, Mozambique, and Guinea-Bissau. The colonial war was Portugal's Vietnam, and the decolonization process traumatized the country, since it marked the end of a 560-year-old empire. The best way to avoid hostility is to establish high status: dress well, be courteous, speak eloquently, etc.

In BR you will find less overt racism. The Portuguese are more honest than the Brazilians in that regard. In any case, I don't think racism is a serious problem in either country. Where should you go? Go where you can have a good quality of life!

i cant say for sure about portugal, from what i've seen on the internet (comments made by portuguese people,especially on youtube wich is a warzone between Pt's and Br's) they are very racist, even high status celebs like rihanna complained about the overt racism, just google racism in portugal

in brazil you dont need to worry too much about being black if you're a foreigner,not poor and dress right, im from minas gerais and live in brasilia, belo horizonte is a major metropolis, you won't find any problems there

at my gym there's this black guy, dark as charcoal, he barely speaks portuguese , people treat him with utmost respect and curiosity

people here pay more attention to the shoes and clothes you are wearing than your color

i can even say that being black is high status in some parts Brazil (if you own it with some form of status), white guilt is very strong here and people treat blacks and black culture like something exotic and magical (that's where real racism hides,IMHO) being black is chic, especially in university cities like Belo Horizonte (i can say that for sure in brasilia) but thats not so true in the south or other cities like rio or sao paulo,in those places you will not have the black is chic by your side, just the foreigner status (which brazillian chicks dig very very much)

Wait you have a Brazilian passport but don't know Portuguese too well?

What is your native language?

It all depends on what your goals are. If you want to learn Portuguese outside of work while taking lessons, etc...your best bet would be Brazil of course as their dialect is much more prominent than the one in Portugal. That would lead to much more opportunities hooking up with the local women, etc down there.

If your goal is to date a wide range of women from other European countries, I would maybe pick Portugal since many good looking chicks like to vacation there as it's a discount compared to say Greece or parts of Spain. Also..you'd have good vacation access to scoring with women in their home countries too .

The BIG issue with Portugal (Lisbon) is that most of the young people have disappeared elsewhere for better economic opportunities not to mention Portuguese women are very unattractive.

Haha, you know god saved me from the poor brazil and did grew up in Europe.

Yes, thats true the young people in Portugal are leaving to London or other countries. But I speak swedish and english and wanna work at a swedish company in Lissabon so I dont need to know portugues but I guess it´s good to know if you wanna make some friends outside work.

When they do surveys of racism in Europe, Portugal is usually ranked number one for least racist (and Spain is one of the most racist). IMHO Portuguese ppl are just more open to other races. They use to have a massive empire, including many colonies in Africa so 10% of the population is non-Portuguese.

Brazil is more like America. Not as bad, but definitely there are class divisions based on race. That said, Brazilians are so laid back and it appeared many whiter Brazilians had black and brown friends.

Either way I don't think you can go wrong. I've traveled extensively in both and both seem like pretty good place for black guys.

I'm Portuguese and I'm going to give my point of view:

Yes, we are a little bit racist towards blacks and gypsies (not asian). Brasilians also, because they think that they are better than us, and we don't like that kind of shit, also because there was a huge "crime wave" from brasilian gangs a couple of years ago. But we are open about it. We also don't care. Actually we might be a little bit bipolar about it.
To put this straight, if somebody lost something, the first suspect will be the gypsy in the room that might have stole it. The second suspect will be the black guy. (funfact: some stores have frogs as decoration. because gypsies are afraid of frogs, they won't go inside)
Organized violence is almost nonexistent. Skinheads got their asses kicked several times, the most "important" one is in jail and almost all hangout places are closed.

Lots of guys might call you "Preto" (black/nigger) in front of you (never in a office setting). It might be offensive or it might not be offensive, even if the person doesn't know you. One of the few black guys I know (he's super cool), is called "Preto" by almost everyone. He says that that's his color, so he doesn't really give a shit, so it can also depend on how sensitive to this you are.
(Unrelated but fun story, when obama was elected president, I was in a cruise and had dinner with an american guy that asked our opinion about obama. My mom replied "For us, he's just another nigger". Her english isn't the best and she wasn't aware that the word is offensive for english speakers, because to us it isn't. I had to explain that to the american guy. Fun fact, she wass a teacher in a very difficult school (lots of refugees from africa) and everybody from students to parents liked her. Still 15 years later people come to her out of nowhere to say hello and thank her)

If a portuguese guy doesn't like you, he will probably just not bother to speak with you. Generally he won't get physical (you're a black guy, and black guys have the gang close by mentality), unless he's white knighting (yup, lot's of knights over here).

Regarding Rihanna, she was probably just whoring around as usual in one of the top hotels, and we don't tolerate that kind of shit.

To sum it up:
Be polite, and you will be respected. Be impolite, and your skin color will be the first topic coming out someone's mouth.
Try to speak portuguese, you'll get more points with the people, and they'll enjoy trying to teach you a bit (after all you're brasilian and must speak portuguese!)

Regarding women:
Scoring Portuguese quality women, it doesn't really matter if you're black or white. It's down to social circle. There are not that many girls with black dudes. The ones I see, don't have much quality (would not bang). Depending on your age, you can always frequent Eramus/foreigner places, where you can stay in touch with lot's of girls from different countries.
Be advised Portuguese women, have the worst bang for buck ratio. You need to have motherfucking batman game to kiss some interesting girl(6-7). To penetrate her you need Super Saiyan IV level game. That's why 70% of portuguese guys that go abroad on erasmus go to eastern european countries. With half the game, you get tripled results.
Forget tinder or any other form of online dating. girls are there to either make fun of you, be validated, or the interested ones in being penetrated are a 10 on the hideous scale.
Nightlife can also be very social. some social circle go out, to be seen at place X, instagram it, facebook it then tweet it.

Regarding what I know about brasil:
Belo Horizonte is one of the most dangerous cities in the world. (Lisbon one of the safest, although we have good pickpockets)
Brasil as a whole is generally unsafe.
I believe that, even though it will be easier for an interracial relationship, brasilians are more racist. when they call someone "preto" they mean to hurt.
Average girl in brasil is uglier, but the population is much higher, so you will see more hotties in a day in brasil than in a week in lisbon (greater lisbon population is 1million).The brasilian 7.5-10 range eclipses anything made in Portugal. Top women are actually top. They are also more feminine, "cool" and laid back than portuguese (even the ugly ones), making sex/kissing much easier.

Portugal racist? Probably the least racist country in Europe...

Icarus and Wreckingball gave good advice as always.

As for women there's almost literally no comparison, first because they are very different. Second because brazillian women tend to have much better energy , plus the amount of time spent is generally a lot less than with Brazillian women.

As for living, heh it's pretty good around here if you have the money, and it is quite safe.

This new generation of girls is leaps and bounds ahead of the last one, no comparsion. I study at a social sciences institute, trust me, I know this shit. They're also quite easier but still not Brazil level obviously. It's hard here, but don't believe that "they're all ugly" bullshit. Of course in Brazil you have more selection and it's easier to score..

As for a black guy with portuguese girls, there is a small set that likes the pseudo gangster ones but they're kinda trashy... to have some luck with the more trendy ones ... well you kinda need to be like Will Smith or so.

But hey...with the amount of tourists, you really can't go wrong.

Portugal is a traditional country, and until very recently women would only leave their parents' house to get married. Even when they go to college, they often live with their parents. This was OK when people got married at 20. But now people marry at 27-32. It's like young people are left in a limbo for a decade, and it's painful. The older generation did not engineer social protocols to allow single males and single females to interact in a healthy way. To make matters worse, the economic crisis prevents young people from attaining a level of financial stability that allows them to move out of their parents' house permanently. You'd expect people to relax after a few drinks at a night club, right? Not really. Most people are dancing alone, or holding their drink and looking at the crowd, looking too cool to actually have fun. I remember partying in Portuguese clubs with some Czech, Ukrainian, and Lithuanian chicks, and we were the only group in which males were actually dancing with females. The Portuguese girls did not seem too interested in dancing with anyone other than their girlfriends. It's weird.
  

Having said that, Portugal is definitely worth visiting, since it's a beautiful country, with great food, great wine, and good surf. Just don't go there to game chicks. Get a Nordic, Baltic, or Slavic girl, and then take her to Portugal for a relaxing vacation.

yeah, were under maintenance, things did not work so well with the planning of these major events, and the population is kinda pissed off, funny because we are definitely a soccer country, this was supposed to be all joy

thats not true, making fun of portuguese is a very old joke because of the colonization resentment, but we as a culture have very low self Esteem, Brazilians love to lick tourist european balls , i cant say what happens between Br's and Pt's in your country, but here in Brazil is supreme adoration for anything foreign, people don't appreciate their own culture around here

the real enemy of the negros is the police, its getting better, in the past it didnt matter your social position, if there was a black riding a nice sports car or displaying any sign of good life people automatically assumed it was stolen, they would humilliate you into showing proofs that you bought it

but now is different, the police doesnt bother wasting their time just because your black, but if you are not very well dressed you are considered suspicious

i've met some very racist people but they're all old and dying, newer generations are born with anti white mentality from the beginning

Rio seems almost like an extension of the Northeast except with stronger more elongated accents.

Rio accent - Tres = Tressshhhh, Seis = Seissshhh, and Dez = Dessshhh

actually that "shh" accent is from portugal, northeast accent is more about the Rhythm and tone and silencing the T's and D's, its a really annoying speech pattern high pitched but very dominant when deep





Nordestinos are very proud people, one of the only cultures that mantains itself alive,they don't take shit from nobody, and can sometimes be hard to handle

it doesnt rain in the north, crops dont grow, totally abandoned by the state, its difficult having a decent live in those parts, so the only options is to move to the lower states

its a commom meme that nordestinos fucked up sao paulo and the south with immigration, Sulistas (southern people) are the ones with the most hatred for nordestinos
Sulistas have German and dutch heritage, that sometimes mess with their fragile brazilian ego, so they think they are better than everybody, most neonazis groups are from the south

we just see nordestinos as inferior people, indeed it was the last part of brazil to develop, nordestinos have it worse than anybody, and we as a very classist and limited people have so much disdain for the poor and ugly (nordestinos are very masculine but have messed up facial features, Nordestinas are ok and sometimes hotter than your typical blonde HB8)

Wrong. This is true in Brazil, not in Portugal. In portugal white people will call you preto without meaning to be offensive. You will see many white guys calling their black best friends by their race, not by their names. Even your white portuguese girl will call you and ask you "onde estas meu preto?'' Its completely normal, it's not meant to be racist, but I know in Brazil preto is a racist word. Fuck it, you can sue someone in Brazil if they call you preto.

That's totally non sense. Portugal is probably one of the least racist countries in Europe. Portugal is racist when comes to getting jobs but in terms of social interaction, you will hardly have any racist experience specially if you are a black guy with your shit together and you don't look like a thug.

Note that Lisbon has LOTS of black people, born in Portugal and outside of Portugal (Angola, Cape verde, Mozambique, brazillians etc) and many old white portuguese people were born or raised in Africa and went back to Portugal after the colonialism ended. So many of the white people there are used to interact with africans. There is no other country in Europe where you will see a white european and a black african hugging each other as if they were the same blood. Interacial dating is somewhat popular, go to the shopping centre Colombo and I am quiet sure you will see few black and white couples there, and the portuguese love to kiss in public. Now, when you are hanging out with a white chick and you are a black guy, people will stare at you a lot, not in a negative way. This happened to me and it was quiet uncomfortable but it also happened to me in the UK but in Portugal they stare at you way more.

OP the problem with Portugal is that portuguese girls kinda look down on brazillians, the ones that date black guys will probably be more interested in dating a black portuguese born, brazillian accent don't do it for them. HOWEVER, when a black brazillian guy with super game, speaks clear portuguese and she feels that he is not there searching for a better life, it's game over, you get a different treatment. But with so many hot black women in Lisbon, you can just try to date all different races while you are there. Start approaching like crazy and see what works for you. If you don't look like you just came from a favela, you will be good.

Some parts of Brazil can be pretty racist too, specially when comes to getting jobs but of course is way easier to interact with whites in Brazil than in Portugal. Socially speaking you are probably better off in Brazil and Brazil is just way more fun to live. However, Portugal is a really nice country too. If you are just interested in women, go to Brazil, if you want a nice european experience then go to Portugal, quality of life is also better in Portugal .

thanks for the info guys, i really dont know anything about portugal, never went there, all my supposed information is from watching their behaviour on social media, i'll be more careful now on from stating things i do not fully grasp

In Portugal, guys will also call each other "cabrão" and "filho da puta" without meaning to be offensive... when they are friends!! And only in that case! I don't see how you're disagreeing with me.

The truth is that the word "preto" is impolite and should be avoided when one is interacting with strangers. For example, the newspapers or TV newscasts in PT never use the word "preto". Instead, they use the word "negro" or, more pedantically, "de raça negra".
