Thanks for the feedback. I'll apply for it and learn more specifics from the residence life folks. If it sounds alright, great. The $6k I'd save on housing would move me and all my shit out of this hellhole with change leftover.

Personally I'm not a fan, I hate shitting on people like RAs have to, and at my university they have to do a bunch of crafting and organizing events that people rarely go to. I wouldnt want to give up 2 years of the college experience for it, but conditions will vary depending on your school's rules.

But economically its a lot of money to be making(saving) while in school.

Thing is, my students LOVED me, I wasn't the party police, in fact, I spent a lot of my "free" time hanging out with a lot of them(before quiet hours of course). So that if and when something had to happen, I could easily just have them chill, and not have to write them up, get them in "trouble" and they pretty much kept it cool. Really it's pretty easy to get people to relate to you and to most situations. . .it's not rocket science, just . . .social science.

I really only had to write up my students about 2 times (in two years) The first time was just my studednts hilariously smoking pot so much in their rooms that it woke me up at 6am on a Sunday morning because it smelled so bad. . .knocked on their door. . .they were faded as fuck.. A week later I was hanging with it and we laughed about it. . .They knew what they did was dumb as shit and I made fun of them for it. I never had to get them in trouble for that again.

Now other students I had to write up, but that was for more stupid shit like:

a)fighting
b)throwing a TV off the roof into the street(wtf?)
c)Shooting off fireworks in the forest behind the dorms. . .then running when police came (Wtfffffff?)

and the occasional Noise complaint, but most of the time I'd just knock on teh door. . .act like I was really tired(not hard to do) so they can relate, and be like "man its 2am. . . me and other people in the building have class in the morning. . please turn your music down/voice down/etc they called me up just to come get you man, please help me out."

Something along those lines. Poeple will relate and feel bad for that.

But yeah that is a lot of work. A LOT of RA's just come across as lazy: don't try to get to know their students, act uninsterested in them etc etc, then when they need to tell someone to stop acting retarded, they get hated because its pretty much like you're just meeting up with them to tell them what to do et etc, then it's like: "who are you dude? fuck this guy."

I've seen bad RAs have all kinds of shit happen to them!

So yeah, a lot of those who Apply to the RA positoin are kind of Strange as well. Like Waaay too much into the whol PC thing, and waaay too much into weridness/nerdiness/social awkardness etc. Kinda like Theatre people. Way into that fake ass wanna be inspirational camp counselor kind of crap that people see through a mile away. . .When are you gotta be is be cool...and relaxed.

I could go on and on about how to do well as an RA but I don't have time for that Good luck.

P.S. I missed out on a suprise 3-some during my job since I didn't want to get fired. . .The opportunity presented itself on night - two of my students knocked on my door at 2:30am in full on hot clothing, drunk as fuck, and lipstick on all wrong. . .at my door. . .trying to get in. . .I had to cry myself to sleep after resisting that temptation . . .*Almost* not worth it.

1) I believe that if you accept a job, you should do it correctly and refrain from personal indiscretions.

2) There can be actual consequences for people in today's American college atmosphere. Your school may vary. At my school, which had about 50% women due to affirmative action, if an RA (ours were all grad students) were to be revealed as having had sex with some of his resident advisees, he would certainly lose his position and perhaps face disciplinary action from the school. I went to a college in a very liberal city, and even the fraternities at my school are required to undergo anti-rape training in order to be allowed to host events. Personally I think this is utterly ridiculous, but that's the climate you find in some colleges.

If you want to go do manly things or be an "alpha" or whatever buzzword you want to use, the modern academic environment isn't the right place. Your academic career is in the hands of administrators who would often be happy to make an example of someone in the name of gender equality.

When I was in college I was studying in the common room. An RA came in and told me to leave because they were locking all the common rooms (due to some drunk kid or something). I'm not a douche and I could have easily found another place to study, but the kid came at me all wrong. He didn't ask me to leave, he ordered me to leave.

RA - "Anti, find another place to study, common areas are off limits now"
Anti - "Why are COMMON areas off limits?"
RA - "Doesn't matter, find another place to study"
Anti - "Nah, I'm good here"
RA - "I'll write you up!"

Considering they're both undergrads and adults, I really see nothing wrong with it. There's really no more authority there than say a bouncer at a bar, but no one gives two shits that they're fucking a lot of girls. They may have somewhat of a position of authority, but there's very little exchange of anything (obviously unless you're paying them a bit to skip the line, but that's different).

Real authority over someone is when you decide their raise, their evaluations, etc. Something that would be a conflict of interest. Thinking back to my college days, I can't recall there being anything close to that kind of relationship with our RAs. They were nothing more than glorified hall monitors.

Now if the university has a different take on it, well then the OP will have to weigh that decision and possibly face the backlash if caught.

OP, since you're ALSO a student, and assuming there are no rules regarding banging the other students, I'd go for it. Just don't talk about it with anyone...and I mean anyone. That's a quick way for a player to fuck up. Just be cool about it.

Another option, is to be cool with everyone, get their numbers and use them for social circle game.

Maybe so. Personally I have a hard time believing that some limp-wrist administrator would see it that way. However, as you mention, they're both undergrads so there's more wiggle room than say, a PhD student and an undergrad.

Still, you have to admit it can be risky, which is what the OP's question is asking.

Why wouldnt society function? Thanks to the invisible hand of the market everyone can be selfish and still(or more accurately, because of that) be able to help other people.

I would think that it would function less well, if we did what you suggested- Guys who would otherwise be good RAs stop taking the job because they cant fuck chicks, if they are the type of guys who love fucking. Then other guys who are less good at RAs take the job instead because they dont mind not getting any.

You want to maximise the incentive for each job and then pick the best(well, pick the best for the amount you have to pay them)
