I was pretty stunned at first when I heard this.
But then, maybe the enormity of tieing himself to one (admittedly fit) girl finally dawned on him, and he pulled out.
He's no looker, but as we all know, that's not all that important as a man, especially if you have his money, status and fame, he has thirty years of pulling quality high end tail ahead of him, if he plays his cards right.

He has definitely tanked after a VERY quick ascension on the PGA and Euro Tours, but you're right; walk into a room and say you've won a Tour major and you pretty much have your pick of the litter.

How does this work?

If you call off an engagement - does that automatically mean you split up as well?

Just curious if that is what always happens?

Well usually when you nuke a girls would-be-wedding day it usually coincides with a "fuck you" text and a swift ending of relations.

They've always looked like an odd couple to me.

Not knowing anything else, a guy who is 25 cancelling and his engagement is likely doing the right thing

I've been engaged twice, both times they did the proposing, and I called them both off as it got to the planning phase. The first was an immediate breakup, the second dragged on for a while.

I think there was a typo and you meant to say:

"….a guy who is 55 cancelling his engagement is likely doing the right thing"
