That is correct. We have only luxury brands such as Rolls Royce. My buddy works in their factory. Everything there is built to order, with one exception.

That exception is the American market, for which a quantity are built each year for stock- apparently you guys don't like to wait!

The one point that got me a bit confused was the one about Brits being PC. If anything, the British people I've met have been way more more un-PC then the Americans I know. British people seem to have a general bluntness and in your face attitude that a lot of other peoples of Caucasian extraction don't. I remember when I was on the wrestling team back in high school there was this one British kid who decided to join one year and he pretty much was disliked by everyone else on the team for talking massive shit and being obnoxious despite being one of the least athletic guys on the team and getting constantly tooled by everyone during practice. I know, it's only a sample of one person but I've talked to other guys who have had encounters with English guys and the general consensus is that they are boorish and pretty much "chav-ish" in behavior, even if they are middle class and educated.

Wutang, I believe you, but that just means you haven't met any of the PC one's. Believe me, you'll know. They may not even be a majority, but their PCness is so grating, so ridiculous, it staggers you. At least it did me when I met a couple. It is an absolute refusal to accept reality. Anything even slightly construed as un-PC is racist. Anything other than, "Men have oppressed women for thousands of years." is misogynist. It is an unbelievably annoying person to behold. I have met a lot of great Brits too, so, I should probably remember that more when I think of the British. It is just the PC ones really strike me the wrong way.

This passage by Ray Bradbury describing the "Autumn People" comes to mind when I think of the PC crowd.

I know a guy who worked at a software company in London, and he said everyone would get drunk at lunch and do zero work in the afternoon. How common is this there?

I’ve had to tone down my language in the US. I can be a bit blunt and I swear all the time. In the UK the word cunt is a minor word, which is used to refer to men - e.g. “he’s a bit of a cunt”. When British guys talk they’re just goofing off – it doesn’t really mean anything. We call it “banter”.

I think some people are too pussfied when it comes to talking to people. I started a new role a few months back and people in LA would always talk shit about how much of a bitch the lady in our New York office was. They would say she’s a ball breaking New Yorker. I spoke to her a few times and I thought she was fine. She even let my managers know how much of a pelasure it was to work with me. I think some of the LA staff were a bit too over sensitive.

I can’t say how common it is now but I definitely did that in the late 90’s in London. I worked as an IT consultant in central London. When we weren’t working on projects, we had no work to do until we were put on another project.

Some Fridays we would go for a pub lunch and never go back to the office. We would then go to another pub or two and drink until very late. Sometimes I would crash at a coworker’s place, or I would get on the train home. My hometown was the last stop on the train so I would be asleep on the train by the time the train stopped. The station guard would wake me up and I would walk home.

A lot of British people go to the pub for a beer at lunchtime – it’s called a “liquid lunch”.

Also our team meetings always took place in a private room of a pub with a free bar. Everybody got drunk. I now live and work in Los Angeles, and people here are a lot more puritanical about alcohol.

In London people would go to out drink on a Friday after work and stay out late. In LA many people leave work around 4pm on Friday so they can avoid traffic.

Nothing wrong with British food if you know anything about nutrition, nobody forces you to get fish n chips. I couldn't stomach asian dishes longer than need be for a one-off meal as my stomach wouldn't tolerate it.

Actually years ago I used to watch some British shows on BBC America. One was "You Are What You Eat" with Gillian McKeith. She would put a person's weekly menu on display on a table and it was often really disgusting. She also played with and analyzed their poo, and would say things like, "what a disgusting splat!"

BTW this reminds me- the original Kitchen Nightmares was so much funnier than the US version. The slang and cursing was much more entertaining. I still remember an episode where the wife of a restauranteur said to her husband, who asked what was wrong, "Gordon's 'ere and he's bein' a tosser!"

"Top Gear" is one of the best shows ever. Guess that falls under humor. Along with Little Britain, Mitchell and Web, and Peep Show... We really don't have anything close to that in the US.

To me there has been nothing else like it made in Britain.

Does anyone else that lives in Britain feel like every major decision about the future of the country was decided along time ago?

From mass immigration, to the endless political correctness, the EU, etc it feels like every major issue has been decided. Watching a political tv show is like watching a soap opera ...meaningless, labour blame the conservatives and vice versa for everything but they stand for exactly the same thing on every issue. Its just a very clever illusion to keep people voting for them.

I don't even think universal suffrage is a good idea how does it guarantee "freedom" when every issue is brought down to the lowest common denominator

Talking to people my age is infuriating every other word is racism/sexism or another ism. The words don't even mean anything anymore they've been watered down so much, all they mean is that you said something which might offend someone off insert "disadvantaged person".

Final point Peter hitchens is my favourite writer in Britain at the moment in nearly every article/tv interview I see him in I find myself agreeing with and his logic makes it hard to argue against him.
