The style blogs Dappered and Put This On are good at announcing sales as they occur. Dappered focuses mainly on the lower-end retailers like Target, Uniqlo, JCrew, BananaRepublic, Gap, Express, Bonobos, etc. Put This On covers the higher-end stuff. I check both blogs every day. If I see a good sale that hasn't been covered by either of those blogs, I'll post it here.

For watches and other jewelry I use Kay Jewelers. I have a card and between 5-10 times a year I get buy $100 worth get $50 off. I think 3 times a year they offer spend $300 get $100 off.

Nordstrom has their dress shirts and 1901 shirts 35-40% off. These are very good quality for the price. High quality cotton and good construction. The trim fit options fit me well enough that I don't have to get them tailored.

Of all the sub-$100 dress shirts I've tried: Express, J.Crew, BananaRepublic, Jos Banks, Lands End, Eddie Bauer, L.L. Bean, Alfani, Men's Wearhouse (they carry cheaper Italian brands), etc, I think Nordstrom is by far the best. I just bought six new ones from this sale.

Chinese fabric is definitively not as good as European fabric. This does not mean it is bad. I think that good chinese fabric is quite good and being able to buy four MTM suits in salmon, white, blue, green all for four bills is a deal you absolutely cannot match. Keep in mind that places like SuitSupply have chinese fabric and the mayor of chicago wears these. It really is all about the fit. Don't be afraid to tell them to redo it. I had them take back my favorite suit four times to let out more fabric in the back (so that I could reach both my hands forward without feeling tightness on my back) and by the end the lady was furious to see me.

I have plans to visit there again this year. If I do I will drop a datasheet... I could drop one now but I don't know anymore if the same shops are still open. You can PM if you want details.

The problem isn't low quality fabric but low quality workmanship. Most of the tailors in Thailand and Vietnam have good fabrics available but the quality of the clothes you get is pretty poor. Even the higher end tailors like Narin Couture or Tailor on Ten in Bangkok (as well as most Vietnamese tailors) produce work that isn't much better than what you could get for the same price in a department store.

This is true for pretty much anything bespoke in SE Asia, whether it's clothes or shoes or furniture. At $15 a shirt and $100 a suit you will get absolute shit that will fall apart in a few months, at best. For $300 a suit or $200ish for a jacket you can get something decent.

The biggest benefit of getting MTM clothes in Asia is the fit. If you do enough fittings and really make it clear to them what you want, you can get clothes that look great on you. Just don't expect them to last more than 2-3 years, which isn't so bad if you get a suit that's really fashion forward since it will eventually go out of style anyway.

If you want something to last a while or look professional, get it made in Hong Kong instead of SE Asia. Prices are about 2x as much but the quality is leaps and bounds ahead of what you can get in Thailand or Vietnam. The styling is more conservative than SE Asia, which is a good thing since Thai and Vietnamese tailors seem to love 1980s style shoulder padding and huge lapels.

Totally. Would be badass to read a breakdown, especially tailors that are solid/high quality, and how much they've charged.

I'm concerned about getting overcharged, having not done the Vietnam custom clothes thing before.

Almost every store I can think of is having some type of sale on men's clothes for Father's day.

What I would do is wait for the day after Father's day and scoop up some clothes. Most mark down their clothes from sale to clearance the day after the actual holiday and you can get some really good steals.

Express is an...interesting brand.

Since somewhat dressier style works best for me I've found them the BEST place to go to get club clothes. They make button ups that are far more colorful and bold than you can reliably get at other stores, with ties that catch the eye.

A major point in their favor is that their suits are cut a bit slimmer than most US brands. Actually all their clothes are. Express is not a brand for fat people.

The downside is that their clothes can be a tricky to maintain. They need frequent steam ironing as that smooth sheen comes of quickly and they wrinkle. Also NEVER get them dry cleaned. The color tends to wash out of the collar, leaving you with ugly looking white tips.
