Been on multiple dates and usually the girl brings up points like "Yep my mom teached me to never depend on a man. So when I dump him or he dumps me I remain strong and independent."

What would be your comeback to this? It annoys me to hear this come out of the mouth of cute women.

If you're so strong and independent why do you need to feel validated by telling me that? Doesn't sound very strong if you feel the need to tell everyone.

Why exactly does it annoy you? I just read it as a woman trying to make herself feel less vulnerable.

I'd respond with something like, "So that means you won't turn into a stage 5 clinger? Cause I can have that effect on women." Then immediately follow it with some deep comments about self actualization, the necessity of trust and vulnerability in relationships, how those things can be at odds with each other, etc.

You see on POF/OKC lots of women saying stuff like "Not looking for a man to take care of me & my kids, I'm strong, independent, etc", yet they will post like 5 pics of her with her kids, or sometimes just the kids, which is a bit strange. It's like they know men online are generally so desperate it becomes irrelevant how many kids they have.

Then again, online dating is really nothing more than show-and-tell for women.

^ Just to clarify, my suggestion was supposed to be completely sarcastic. Not emotive.

I always used to tell white girls I didn't believe in girlfriends and smirk at them. It fires them up and makes you seem like a challenge.

It's a great response when they ask you why you don't have a girlfriend. I could see it being a perfect crack to take at her when she gets done telling you she doesn't need a man.

Just like that she goes from trying to demonstrate her value to you and flips the script to start eyeballing you and wondering if you're serious or not. And laughing, swatting at you, or calling you a bastard.

But yeah, don't be serious with it. Cocky is what you're going for.

I 100% agree that you'd be better off completely ignoring her statement than acting emotional about it. If you can't have fun with it, leave it alone.
