The reason feminism is dangerous is that it rewrites history, recasting men as oppressors instead of builders.

When you make the hero the villain, I'd say you have a problem with your ideology.

Men were and are creators because of a mix of brains and brawn and an instinctive knack for teamwork. Feminists claim that if only men hadn't spent all their time holding women down, women would have created civilizations.

They don't realize that before the Industrial Revolution, both men and women had to struggle to survive far more than they do today. So men built things to make life easier. When it got easier for women (circa 1950, with modern conveniences we still use), women had more time on their hands and used that time to wonder why they were not part of the world men built.

That's when feminism as we know it really took hold. Women sat in safe suburban houses while their husbands were commuting to jobs that drove them to earlier graves, and the women called that oppression.

When that schtick started to wear thin, they set their sights on demonizing male sexuality -- and had allies in the Catholic Church and media. Their mis-reading of history bled into school curricula, which became female-driven and has had a disastrous effect on the education of boys.

If you think all of this doesn't affect you, you're wrong.

Women in the US now resent men as a matter of course since they're taught that men are the bad guys of history. This affects marriages and day-to-day relations.

The media is like a machine, making sure to keep that resentment high. The show "Mad Men" looks back at history through the lens of "oppression" instead of "progress." It's on the air because in case women stop resenting men for a second (now that women dominate college and are getting the cushy jobs), it can remind them of how horrible men were -- not how resourceful they were. Call it retro-resentment.

I think 'Mad Men' is a great show (although I have only seen the first 3 series). But it definitely seems quite feminist in its outlook. And disguises that by showing guys goofing off and having fun.

Thank you. I could never really enjoy the show because, even though Don Draper is a great character and a lot of other shit is pretty cool, the feminist "oh it was so terrible and backward" rewriting of history underlies the whole thing. Ruins it and leaves an unpleasant taste in my mouth.

Absolutely not. That all does *seem* reasonable at first glance, but I'm increasingly convinced its entirely incompatible with a productive, sustainable society.

A big problem is, since men are stronger, smarter, more assertive, more aggressive, better able to accomplish things both individually and as a team, better able to communicate clearly, etc., actually giving everyone "equal opportunities in school and at work" would result in men dominating virtually everything. Feminism, and contemporary liberalism generally, though, religiously believes in the entirely absurd idea that men and women are totally and fundamentally the same. While anyone with even the slightest powers of observation can see how silly this is, it remains the unofficial but strongly enforced law-of-the-land in the West. In order to remain faithful to that impossible delusion, nearly every institution of society must be sacrificed:

-- schools and college become dumbed-down indoctrination centers that paththologize normal male behavior and socialize everyone to be an androgynous worker bee

-- ever-increasing political correctness stifles discourse and destroys honest communication. Controlling language is also the best way to control thoughts.

-- Female-centric family courts, no-fault divorce remove male authority from domestic life and destroy the family. male investment in society drops accordingly.

-- current abortion laws gives 100% of control to women. men are responsible for supporting their children but have zero say whether she keeps it or kills it.

-- Affirmative action, hiring quotas give women preferential treatment in employment. forget about best candidate for the job. Plus, the constant threat of sexual harassment charges hangs over everything.

I say you give too much credit to the women. I believe in a more conspiracy theory idea- that the elites at the top(Jews/bankers/illuminati) purposely engineered Feminism among other things in order to break down society and make it easier to control. In this case, the family unit, masculinity, and independence(from the state).

I do not believe women in general can create these issues on their own. Well, they can, but why would men go along with it? Men tend to think more rationally about these things.

Just to clarify, I wrote that "Mad Men" looks back at history through the lens of oppression instead of progress, not that it's "rewriting it" -- the feminists did that.

What I was saying is that it's a biased look at one side of a much larger picture. And it does not provide the larger context for the audience to view that picture.

To fully get why things were they way they were in the 1960s, you have to understand most people wanted the male-worker/female-wife/suburban breakdown because 1). It conferred new found status on couples and 2). It offered security for a generation that grew up in the large shadows of WWII and the Great Depression.

It was a handful of malcontents who saw all this as some sort of patriarchal scheme to keep women down. Most women didn't want to be commuting, working away from home, etc.

But "Mad Men" views life back then through women's point of view from today and looks at one wedge of the populace --and specifically at their dysfunction. It's the classic example of there being an elephant in the room there but we don't know it because they're dangling the tail before us and not letting us touch the other parts.

This satisfies those who like to believe the past is some awful place we "progressed" from. In some respects we did. But the women of that era seem a lot more together than the Prozac-popping, tattooed, single mothers of today. How is it progress when 20 percent of women are on meds? Or when half of kids don't live with their fathers?

Another thing TV and movies do is make us think the intact family unit of the 1950s and 1960s was some sort of awful, stifling thing to most people and abuse went on willy-nilly. But as opposed to what? The fractured families/step-families we now have -- where molestation has been shown to occur mostly when step-parents enter the picture? Where we work more hours for less money? Where we don't know our neighbors?

When we look at what TV is showing us, the thing we should be asking ourselves is "What is it not showing us? What is it leaving out?" Whatever that turns out to be usually doesn't fit their agenda.

The agenda, in this case, isn't about liberation. It's showing us how wonderful it is for women to be little corporate worker bees like men and presenting that as liberation. And (of course) it's showing us only the most depraved aspects of male sexuality and making that seem the default position for all men.
