It doesn't matter if you don't believe. It doesn't make it any less true. It does screw up a good thread when you act like a snarky woman. Just be happy that something like that hasn't happened to you.

No, I am the one that is telling you I don't care if you believe it or not. What I do care is your need to continue telling everyone you don't believe is derailing this thread. You had your say and then some. How about you drop it already? Like I said previously, be happy you haven't experienced something similar. I know these words are way overdue but I'm glad you're ok, that's one hell of a nasty story.

I appreciate your tale as it serves as a reminder about what can happen. It's great to here how RVF guys are living it up around the world, but these sort of things do happen, to more people than we'd like to admit. While the odds of it happening are very slim it's worth remembering. I'll keep it in mind as I carve my way through the various continents and countries that make up our planet.

I had a lot of fun there last year though remember that hip hop clubs don't exactly attract the hottest girls in Moscow and unfortunately attract too many kids as well (<21years)

Been in Moscow for a few days so feel like I should drop some data on bars :

Tiki Bar : Small bar on outskirts of center, dance floor in center of venue. I went on a Thursday at 21:30 and the crowd was generally mid 20's and older. Ratio approximately 50:50, many of the girls were with a guy they brought, presumably to dance with.

Dream Bar : Virtually dead on Thursday at 22:00, e.g. there were 2 girls at the bar and a bunch of dudes sitting down.

Tema Bar : Pretty much dead on Thursday at 22:30, 2 girls at the bar, several older guys, and a few groups sitting at tables eating food.

Crazy Daisy : Went on Thursday at 23:30. About 4:1 guys to girls, but the girls were working, e.g. dancing on the bars half naked as part of their job. This place seemed really sketchy (read that another RVF member got beat up here), so I bailed.

Finally after a string of alright bars I walked over the bridge to Red October and hit the first club on the right, I don't know its name. Not sure how I got in, they said something to me in Russian, I tried to reply in broken Russian, the bouncer said "face controlled" in English, but another guy who just entered said "let him in" and the bouncer then let me in. Anyways at this club every car in the parking lot was BMW/Porsche/Benz/Land Rover. Inside the club the ratio was about 2:1 girls to guys, but almost all tables with social circles, people drinking wine and eating. Very few people rolling solo (I might have been the only one). Virtually no lone girls, and a bunch of Russian guys at tables with a bunch of women.

I was shocked as I've never seen such impressive talent and a complicated setup, I just bailed. If anyone has advice on how to roll at this type of club let me know. I'm guessing high social status and display of wealth is imperative.

Thats my kind of place. Planning to hitting Moscow in September, can you recall the name of the place or the street or something?

@celestial, where are you staying in Moscow? I am currently looking for places walking distance to Red October Island for my July trip but can't find anything decent for under $100/day.

To get to Bar Strelka, just walk across the bridge behind Cathedral of Christ Saviour, and take the first set of stairs on your right. This will bring you into the parking lot for Strelka.

My accommodation isn't that great, it's a single room with shared bathroom and kitchen, but it only runs $23 a night.

I'm planning to hit Red October again tonight, and then perhaps check out a more laid back club on Saturday depending on how things go. At least in Red October there are a bunch of clubs so if you get face controlled at one of them you can walk to another club and try again.

Was it Icon?

No it was Bar Strelka, apparently on the night I went there was a party so the talent might have been higher than usual. I went to Gipsy and Rolling Stone yesterday, as I could not get into Icon (they said there is a "special event" and I need to buy a table for 50000 rubles, lol). Ironically I was with a girl when I tried to get into Gipsy but got face controlled (around 23:00), so the girl went home and then the bouncer let me in.

I never had any problem with being american in Russia.

The farther away from Moscow, the more of an exotic factor you represent to the russian girls,
which is a nice plus

So I have three options...

1- take three months off work with 75% of my pay and go live in Russia

2- take a teaching job in Moscow that gives me 40-50k rubles per month and they also give me an apartment (12 month contract)

3- take a teaching job in Novosibirsk that gives me 30-40k rubles a month and they don't give me an apartment. (12 month contract)

I'd prefer to live in Novosibirsk but I don't know if 30-40k is enough to live on. What do you think?

Ideally I'd prefer Siberia WITH accommodation provided.. but thats not on the table unfortunately. Insight from members with experience in teaching / Moscow / life on a really low budget, or negotiation skills - appreciated.

Funny seeing wwt stirring up more conflict in other threads besides the Ukraine one. Apparently his tale of poisoning and police corruption occurred with a friend... too bad no one on here has ever met him or can even confirm he's been where he says he's been.

For first starting out, take a low hour contract (ie 18 hours/week - not the usual 30) along with free accommodation. They may not advertise this on their sites, but they'll let you, especially if you're new, so that you can learn the ropes. Then go to some sites and agencies to get private students to fill the time.

Basically, get free accommodation while teaching as little as possible for that school and as much as possible for private students.
