It seems to me that every superhero out there has extreme oneitis or is completely asexual. Do you guys find that disturbing?

Deadpool seems somewhat alpha. And so does Dr Octopus (!) when he is spider-man. He's very machiavellian/calculative.

That's funny. They don't portray him that way in the movies. He's just crushing hard on Cyclop's girl. He's more of a white knight always protecting his little girlfriend.

If you read the comics it gets pretty racy. You can't write a character for fifty years without a few hookups.

Read the Marvel comics and ignore the films. A lot of those superheros were alpha with the lizards. What about the guy who got thrown through the window in the Watchmen? he was a real alpha cat.

I think the reason a lot of characters in film get written beta is because it's more dramatically interesting.

You want the hero to have something he cares about that he has to fight with real dramatic stakes. If he could just bang another girl, that doesn't have a lot of tension. If this girl is special or loved in some way, it heightens the stakes and makes things more interesting to see him potentially lose someone he cares about.

Likewise, in long form writing - TV, and comics, you might have to take that character through a hundred episodes. Their relationships can't be static and remain interesting for that long. So having a storyline where one character who'd previously lost out of a love triangle does win out keeps things interesting.

In the case of the comics, and X-men mentioned, one writer will do a storyline where Jean chooses to stay with her husband Cyclops. Then one will do one where she is with Wolverine. Then one will do a storyline where Cyclops is stolen by the White Queen. It's like soap operas. But if you're writing the same characters for over fifty years you have to make something happen. How boring or realistic would it be if characters had fifty years of monogamy with zero martial issues or struggles?

Compare fifty years of comics to three two hour movies. Who is gonna have the higher notch count?

Even more interesting is that you rarely see the villains banging lots of girls.

It's because comics are for kids. There used to be a comic book code authority that would regulate what could go in the books. It was around for like half a century.

I think lobo was banging mad hoes. Gambit was a ladies' man.

Also keep in mind that if a lot of superheroes tried to have sex, they'd probably inadvertently kill the girl because they are so powerful.

Wolverine was banging mad bitches. Puck was too.

The hulk hangs out in a brothel.

Human torch was also kind of a playboy.

Comic book Wolverine and Deadpool are the only two I can think of that are truly alpha as well as having banged mad bitches(Deadpool has a thing for the supernatural ones though). For DC, if I remember correctly Green Arrow was a huge playboy in the original comics. Batman is a playboy because he has to keep up his image(he's a beta bitch boy when it comes down to it regardless of how he's banged several women through his superhero job as well as got Talia Al Ghul pregnant with Damian). I would say Iron Man also but nah.

In terms of villains though. I remember The Penguin was banging broads left and right at one point. I forget which comic to be exact though.
