He laughed. She plainly was not happy about it, but I think she was too surprised and afraid of looking ungrateful in front of her girlfriends that she gritted her teeth and played nice.

This concept might seem ridiculous on its face, but it's symbolic of something I bet its creators never intended.

Specifically, it tethers men to their unborn fetuses. It makes the man-baby connection explicit. That's a bond that abortion advocates have tried to break (or erase) for decades.

Under current law, if a woman wants to abort, it's her choice. The man has no say. In fact, men have few reproductive rights at all.

And while that might remain the law, public perception matters too.

For decades the media/feminists have worked overtime to make the public perceive men as "deadbeats" and "abusers" when it comes to anything child-related. It's a little hard to sell that when the public now think of men gathering to celebrate an UNBORN CHILD (cue feminists frothing at the mouth).

This, and things like it (like those annoying diaper changing tables in men's rooms) are gradually shifting public opinion. They're making it crystal clear to people that men have a stake in the unborn.

No matter how you feel about Roe V. Wade, abortion per se doesn't exist in a vacuum. Its legalization had widespread cultural effects.

Because of it, kids went from being "our baby" to being "her baby." This caused a domino effect that resonated everywhere from family courts to happy homes.

But babies don't stay babies. So, children also went from being "our kid" (i.e. a couple's kid) to "her kid." Men's baby showers, for all their inanity, make clear that its not "her" kid but "our kid."
