I've stayed at the Hotel Marseille (Cl. 44 #43-142) several times over the years, most recently at the carnaval last February, outside of Carnaval, its pretty cheap at about 30.000P. If you have a bigger budget, it would be wiser to stay in the north, I prefer it up there but I only go to Quilla for carnaval and the north is way too much then. Outside of carnaval I stayed at the King George Suites, its much nicer, in a way better location (near Buenavista mall) and girls, especially ones from the north, would feel a lot more at ease there than in centro where Marseille is, KGS is about 90.000. Marseille is girl friendly, I can't remember if KGS is or not but if you're cool with the security dudes, I"m sure if you grease them with some cash or guaro and smokes, then you'll be good to go.

I went through the forum stuff just wondering if the bars have changed?
Frog legs and Trucupey seem to be the ones that keep jumping out.

Agua Helada, Discolo, Frogg Leggs, Trucupey, La Troja in descending order from high-end to- well, I'm not sure how to describe La Troja, it's usually more of a street party surrounding a bar. There's also a decent cluster of bars on Calle 84/Carreras 53&54, and some restaurant/bars in the Parque Washington area around Calle 80/Carrera 51B. If you already have a date and want to take her somewhere upscale and chill, check out Coco Beach.

Just read through the forum.

A small group of friends and I will be in Barranquilla for the carnival early Feb. What is the best party hostel to stay in? If we have to go for a hotel can anyone recommend any? If we shell out for an apartment what areas will put us close to the action.
