Cool Shit From Your Childhood/Youth Thread
I was chatting with Cincinnatus the other night on the unofficial RooshV chat room.

I brought up how my mom suggested selling all my Legos in the basement. For whatever reason, I was seriously aggrieved, as I remember toiling away in Illinois humidity clearing ditch weeds and mowing lawns to accumulate enough scratch to buy Legos in my youth. I'm not parting ways with those fuckers!

I remember how cool Legos were when I was a kid:

Man, looking back there was so much shit that seemed so cool. Hot wheels, Micro Machines, Batman & GI Joe figurines. I probably have about 5 or 6 big ass tubs of toys in my parent's basement just on those categories.

What stuff do you recall from your youth? I remember getting into Pogs, battling in Pokemon on black & white Gameboys and briefly dabbling in Magic! The Gathering.

What about you?

Begged my parents for it after everyone started getting it, they promised me to buy it if I got As in math, science and history.

Got my As, they bought it, I grew bored of it after two weeks. Kept it shut down with battery removed forever more because I couldn't bear the thought of the poor thing dying because of my lack of interest.

Lego was hands down my favorite kidhood toy.

I used to have that same Lego Castle Woodsman set! I went to my childhood home some years ago and took every last brick I could find, now they're all safe with me. Found hairs from my dog in the bin, too, made me all nostalgic.

I was also a fan of action figures, I had Batman, Ghostbusters, the 80s style small GI Joe (based on the cartoon), and the full-size GI Joe's, too. However my favorite were Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles, and though I had Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, and Leonardo and their various permutations (in space, disguise, etc), myfavorites were the more obscure characters:

When I was real little, younger than 5, this was my favorite, Fisher Price Little People's Main Street:

Oh man, Meccano. That toy taught me a lot about fabrication.

Playmobil. It had me researching adventure touring at a very young age and I took my first cross country tour at age 18 (Greece). Thanks Playmobil.

I had one of these Kenner SSP racers. They were awesome. I don't know why they aren't still popular.

RE: Cool Shit From Your Childhood/Youth Thread
I suppose that I was in my pre-teens or early teens during the atari period with breakout, space invaders, packman and asteriods.

I also recall riding a banana bike in my preteens. I remember one time taking a jump with the banana bike and the cheap seat broke (the two adjustment bars holding it up in the back), so I had to ride the bike three miles before I could make some kind of patchwork fix of it. I was kind of adventurous in attempting various fixes that upon reflexion were probably half-assed at best (but we were NOT much into new things or throwing things away, but instead repairing what we had, if possible).

My friends and i we were always doing all kinds of repairs and modifications to our bikes. I remember my mother buying me a Huffy for my birthday and within seconds of seeing it i was already making a mental list of what was going to be gotten rid of to make it lighter and cooler looking.

The 1980's... the last great decade kids were free to be kids before society and technology started to suffocate and limit them.
