I know there are few fiction fans on this site, so thought I'd toss this one out.
I've loved adventure fiction every since I was a kid. Ate up all the 1930's pulp reprints when they started showing up in paperback form. Didn't get too much into the "Mens' Action" books of the 70's (DESTROYER, etc). I've also loved the genre fiction: Science Fiction, Horror, Mystery. Some real classics out there if you take the time to find them.
But lately I've had trouble finding anything good to read. It seems as if my fave writers are on hiatus and the new stuff just doesn't do it for me anymore. "Mystery Girl" by David Gordon was the last novel which impressed the shit out of me.
So I'm open to suggestions. As long as I can download on my e-reader.

Around the world in 80 days? 20 000 leagues under the sea? Treasure island? In desert and wilderness? I enjoyed these both as a kid and an adult, so I think that they have a certain enduring quality.

Read two of those. You are right, they hold up very well. It's enough to make you stop reading anything after 1900.

The movie "Deliverance" is great of course, but the original novel by James Dickey is pretty intense.

Shantaram by David Gregory Roberts



It's a memoir/novel by an escaped convict who fled to India and started a life there. It's a long book but a real page turner and enjoyable read.

Also, The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas is one of my favorite adventure novels of all time; a real classic.

Those are two big, entertaining novels that should keep you busy for a bit.

That's a great novel. Extremely hilarious and enlightening at the same time.

I'd recommend Wilbur Smith's Egyptian Series as well. They're well-written and exciting reads.

A timeless Science Fiction classic:



It might not entirely be an "adventure" novel, but it kept me engrossed nonetheless.

Oh, how could I forget to mention a recent favorite: Graham Hancock's historical fiction/adventure novel War God.



It's about the Spanish conquest of Mexico and is a real fun, light read that gives a good, mostly accurate glimpse into the Aztec civilization. The author is also an interesting guy with some pretty unique and controversial theories. Check out his podcasts on Joe Rogan Experience to see what I mean.

The book is part of a trilogy, and the second one should come out this fall. Good book, check it out.

Monte Cristo is great, but so is The Three Musketeers. A few years ago, I read them all (five cheap but thick paperbacks in English) through to The Man in the Iron Mask and they kicked ass. Thinking of going through the series again now.
It's a shame the Musketeers are synonymous with cheesiness through the many movies based on the books.

If it is adventures you want, mate, try His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman, amazing trilogy.
Also Gary Jennings books, like Aztec and Raptor are truly amazing!
I know it is not adventure but A Song of Ice and Fire by George R R Martin are nothing but adventures to me.
And if you want wizard adventures better than Harry Potter, I stronly recommend you Patrick Rothfuss trilogy of Kingskiller Chronicle The name of the wind and The Wise Man´s Fear

Roald Dahl has some incredible adult novels and short stories.

My Uncle Oswald has remained my favorite 'fun' read of the past 5 years.



It has great descriptions of seduction, not-give-a-fuck attitude to get women, human nature, and adventure.

Highly, highly, highly recommended.

One I read around 5 years ago: The Blood Price by Jon Evans.

The premise is a somewhat beta American computer programmer who is with his soon to be ex-girlfriend in Serbia. He is at a party with her rich hipster friends. He leaves, somewhat drunk, and accidentally comes across some Tamil people getting dragged into a car. He somehow ends up involved in a human trafficking ring, with some crazy war criminals. Crazy as in..."tie testicles to a speeding motorcycle" or "gang raping nurses" crazy.

If you like fantasy fiction, Talon of the Silver Hawk is a good one. Story of a young man who's village got wiped by a mad duke who's trying to take control....and how he gets honed into some kind of medieval James Bond. Learns everything ranging from wine and painting, to politics, manipulation and sword fighting.

I was quite young when I read those, and I probably wouldn't find them as good now. But they do fit the "adventure" description.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

Short book, simply written, lots of meaning.
Tells the story of a journey undertaken by a young man from Spain to Northern Africa, and the life lessons he learns along the way.

Congo by Michael Crichton was underrated, and definitely better than the movie version.

It was inspired by King Solomon's Mines, and it covers a lot of interesting areas.
