Breaking up with a girl
I've been seeing this girl for awhile. It seems like she is trying to make things way too serious, and I want to break up with her.

I'm not good at this. The last time I did it she ended up hating my guts. I'm considered with this one she may go psycho.

How do you guys usually handle breaking up with a girl?

Well you gotta get used to the fact that some girls won't like it much and might even go phsycho. But there might be still things you can do to "lesser" the breakup. I'd tell her that you want to try being friends again to see if you "miss" her and stuff like that, tell her she should see other people too.

Im curious as well, as my excuse as always been moving away, and even after the break up, if im in town, we still hook up. Youd be surprised how a 6 month hiatus from a somewhat relationship will re-energize it.

Yea I use the shit out of the friend thing. Seems like the only method that works for me unless you say that you're moving or going out of town and you don't want to hurt her feelings. Fucking psycho bitches, I've had my fair share and I feel your pain. Don't let the crazy factor keep you from breaking it off though. I've made that mistake once before. Also, if you have a friend with some smooth game try to set him up with her behind her back. That way you can make her look like the "bad guy". Sucks for your friend though unless he makes it known that it was a one time thing.

i've used the "it's not you, it's me" ploy a number of times which helped lessen the blow

I'd just be honest with her. Is that ridiculous? If you're not into her, tell her that. If you want to go after other girls, tell her.

You're breaking up with her, just be straightforward, it's time to stop the games.

The problem with being direct is you take all the fun out of it. Remember girls live for drama, a long drawn out breakup for them is like porn for us. They prbly have a long string of emotions planned out and scheduled for at least a week. Granted i dont have much exp in the breaking things off, but the few times i never had any problems with chicks i later heard when psycho on their exs after we broke up b/c i fed their need for drama. I know its bad game to pander that much to a chick, but hey when things are on the out anyways, i dont see what breaking some conventions would do if it saves me a headache in the end.

RE: Breaking up with a girl
It's taken me a while to realize this, but it's actually easier on the girl if you're direct in not wanting to be with her. Most of the time. There is no easy breakup with a psycho. It took me a long time to shed the nice guy bullshit. I'd break up with a girl and try to soften it as much as possible, and all it did was led them to believe that there was still a chance and dragged things out. Tell her, "I came to the realization that I don't want to move forward in being in a relationship or dating you, you're not right for me." She can't argue with this, and a little sting is good because it will jump start her in moving on from you. If you do indeed want to keep hooking up with her, I'd opt for something like, "I need to take a step back from the relationship, I like you and like being with you but I'm feeling suffocated and need some time to think things over." I'd say it works less than half the time, it's hard to go from being exclusive (which I assume you are) to casual (if you even want that), but it does happen, especially when you don't see each other for a few weeks or a month or two, and then you get together for a drink to "catch up".

RE: Breaking up with a girl
I've had zero messy breakups, and I'm still friends and/or occasionally casually fucking most of my ex's. Here's my suggestions:

1. Be honest, sincere, and direct for her. Wouldn't you want the same for yourself? If you're breaking up because of her, don't be too harsh and give her a nice tasty criticism sandwich. Games are over, she deserves to know the truth.

2. Ask for a "break" for a while, rather than a break-up. You never know if you'll change your mind, and it's good to have that option. If you both move on, then so be it. Don't burn your bridges. It's easy for girls to justify fucking you in the future if they don't think there was ever a break-up. Great way to turn a serious relationship into something more casual.

3. After you break up, contact her very very rarely and don't have long conversations or arguments ever.

Be honest, and don't tell the that maybe in the future it will work. Don't let her convince you to stick around.

Also. No "breaks" so you can "find yourself". That's a coward's way out. Be a man, and do it properly.
