Eyeglass thread. I have been wearing eyeglasses since 12, and past several years have used contacts in some occasions but don't really like them. At some point I might consider lasik but not now. Also, my face might look better with glasses because I have very wide/high cheek bones which make my face look pear-shaped

I have been using generic eyeglasses -- do you have any ideas for more stylish but not hipsterish eyeglasses? I think proper eyeglasses which fit into your face can really improve your looks over generic glasses.

I also have glasses. I would avoid hipstersish glasses since I'm not a hipster, and they don't really fit my face. Finding glasses is really difficult, I know because I'm currently looking for a replacement. I like the rimless ones, because they bring out the eyes and eyebrows more. It's hard to say what fits you better, "pear-shaped" doesn't say much. Go to a store and talk to an optician who knows about style, they'll see what fits your face.

On a side note, I've personally found that using contacts increases IOIs from women A LOT. It's like I'm invisible in my glasses by comparison.

I have been said that my looks get +1 when I am without glasses but the contacts are too pain in the ass.

^^These are ray-ban clubmaster, probably RX5154. It's rather popular model so should be available in pretty every shop with eyeglasses.

If you want to go big baller, DITAs are amazing. I was about to get these but they were $$$. They looked pretty perfect on me but I wasn't about to throw a grand down on glasses and the lenses, etc.

If you get the right glasses, they really enhance your look and make you stand out. I have a pretty weak prescription (nearsighted slightly) but I don't have to wear my glasses all the time. I have two pair I wear and they make me look like different people. Its good to have a few glasses in your rotation, like sunglasses.

I work in optical sales and insurance. So this is up my alley. Those retro 50s style are coming back so not just Rayban (owned by the evil Luxotica company who owns almost all premium glasses) but other brands as well carry the style. There is only so many styles you really can do with glasses with it still being functional.

The circle style glasses only work with certain shaped faces. Rectangle and oval is probably what you will end up with.

If your rough at all with taking your glasses off, like using one hand to take them off, or do sports with them, don't consider the rimless style. All that holds the lens in is a fishing line and a groove cut in the lens. They can pop out easily and can be tricky to pop in if your not trained to do it. Most optician have no need to train you to pop them in since it would be time consuming for a dispensing. There is often a grooving charge depending on insurance.

Drillmounts, or the clear glasses where the bridge and temples attach directly to the lens, look cool and are the lightest. They are even more fragile and you need at least a polycarb or trivex lens to drill them. They often have a drill mount charge. They are extremely difficult to repair when broken.

Plastics don't have nosepiece so you can adjust them well except in the temples. They are available in the most colors.

Metals have the most adjustments, but make sure you don't have a nickle allergy since most metal has nickle. I am personally allergic to it. I would have to use Titanium (expensive but light) if I wanted metal.

For those two tone looks check out Joseph Abboud and Altair. Not high end but moderate priced. Your usually just paying for the name. I would only pay 500 for a frame if it was made in say Italy and not China. How strong is your prescription? That will determine the size of frame you can get as well.

Idk but go to coastal.com They are having a promotion where your first pair of glasses with them is free. All you gotta do is have your prescription with you so you know what values to put in for the lenses and you pay for shipping and handling only. Granted you dont get the nicer lense option and stuff. Just keep making new emails to use and you can use it as much as you want.

I have to wear glasses too and bought new ones last year. Ended up buying some fancy rimless ones, spending more than I wanted, but since it you will use them everyday, go for quality.
I bought mine from Lindberg, some posh brand from Denmark. I'm pleased so far.

Thanks Messer and Drazen for the links. I really need to be able to try these on live because impossible to see if they fit my face or not. Apparently my local store has those Ray Bans, better go test them, they are pricy here but think I am going to order the glasses elsewhere for a cheaper price after I have tested them.

The lindberg ones are wild! Plastic with metal nose pads wires. You don't see those stateside besides celebrities. If you find a pair of frames you like, I would still get the lens locally as well. You usually don't have to pay for shipping for a few remakes at local optician or optometrist and more likely they will accept your visual insurance. Also your less likely to make a mistake with Pupil distance measurements and prescription. If your insurance is really good, even an expensive frame won't cost much.

One thing I'm not sure about is Rayban return policy if you have to replace a frame. I've read a ton of horror stories about it taking 2-3 weeks for a single replacement frame. I'd ask where your fitted for info about that. Rayban are generally cheaper than Gucci so they aren't too expensive.
