The US law was posted earlier, and is pretty clear. It sets two ages of consent for Americans abroad - 18 for p4p, and 16 otherwise. If an American breaks either of those, they can be charged in America, regardless of whether it was legal according to the law of the country they were in at the time. They can also be charged in the country where they had sex if they broke the local law.

So in short, the age of consent for Americans abroad is 16 or the local age of consent - whichever is greater. For P4P, it's the greater of 18 and the local age of consent for P4P.

Edit: Wikipedia says the following: "For the purposes of this law, illicit sexual conduct includes commercial sex with anyone under 18,[6] and non-commercial sex with persons under 16 when there is at least a four-year age difference or the person is under 12 years of age."
So there is a close-in-age exception of 4 years for non-pro, but only if you're under 20 years old yourself.

State law doesn't come into it as far as I'm aware, because states don't have the jurisdiction to legislate outside their own territory. Congress, on the other hand, can legislate whatever they like when it comes to US citizens abroad. They also have laws which apply to citizens who enter into corrupt business dealings in other countries.

A few other countries have similar laws - UK, Canada, Australia that I know of.

I don't think so. There was a case not too long ago of a 30 something American woman I think, from Texas who traveled to Alberta to have sex with a 16 or 17 year old guy she met online. Pretty sure they said they couldn't prosecute her in the US because AoC in Canada is 16.

Think he means the stereotype, but I agree nonetheless too many men result to P4P irrespective of their background. Some find it easier to manage than a relationship, but for others that's the only way they get sexual gratification. I personally think it is saddening that so many result to it rather than learn how to seduce women(as women crave pleasures of the flesh as well), but that is the reality we live in. I guess this makes it better for us as there is more to go around. If more guys knew game, it wouldn't be game anymore and we wouldn't have the advantage. I guess there are pros and cons to anything. This is why I always lie to girls about my age. Even if she's cool with my age, I know most of her "friends" will not be. Always go with an age closer to a woman's age for maximum success.
