Belarus visa free entry 25,4 -30,5
“The entry for people coming to Belarus for the championship will be visa-free from 25 April to 30 May. Only passports and tickets, printed or digital, will be needed to cross the border,”

http://www.belarus.by/en/press-center/pr..._8844.html

A ticket to a icehockey game can be bought for as little as 10 USD
I looked quickly around and I could find studio apartments starting from 40USD/ night.

Anyone else thinking about taking advantage of this opportunity?
As a big fan of Icehockey, Slavic girls and Russian culture/language,this could be a pretty ideal opportunity for me.

I'll do my best to make it there in the beginning of May.
Hellyes.

this sounds pretty interesting. if it is what it claims. a temporary open border with the purchase of a cheap hockey ticket.
ha..But what if I don't even go to the hockey game.

I wonder how long you could actually stay?

sadly I would arrive only a couple days before the borders closed.

this is a couple years old and I haven't looked settler than the first Google page on Belarus

openingoureyes.net/2010/06/20/don’t-go-to-belarus-–-there’s-nothing-fun-or-funny-about-minsk/

as a Finn, your entry fees would be different..But it looks like Belarus is a little shifty

usa.mfa.gov.by/en/consular_issues/visas/

other wise it looks like it's about 200 bucks for a visa app

There was a thread on this topic before I believe.

I am still considering to go there, probably this week will make a decision about purchasing (or not) ticket. Never been to Belarus and it looks like a great opportunity to do it.

if you enter on the 28th of May, do you have to go out of the country on the 30th of May??

I don't think so. But Ice Hockey Championship would be finished at that time? So you wouldn't have a valid ticket for WC match to use as your visa (which is the case here).

See original thread:
/thread-31826....ree+travel
this was announced a while back.

I actually had a chance to go to a cultural event at the Belarus Embassy in DC last week and the "acting ambassador" heavily hyped the Ice Hockey World Championships and visa-free travel. The problem with this 1 month time-frame is that hordes of horny westerners will descend on Minsk so although I considered going there I will pass. Easier to go sometime in June when they have left and the ratio's improved.
