Don't know if this applies to Ali, but lots of people I know went to the military because they had no other options. People ascribe such high regard to soldiers because they "defend the country and our freedoms" but in my opinion, they're doing a job just like anyone else.

The fact they get shot and killed disproportionately sucks for sure, but they're signing up for that when they enlist. I think all this "I'm entitled to everything because I'm a veteran" mentality is bullshit.

I have no firsthand experience with the VA but when I go down to the barbershop all of the old guys that are korean, vietnam or iraq war vets have a new story about how the VA completely screwed something up for them. I'd be curious to hear about why this is.

In my own experience it seems like there is tension/animosity between the black and latino communities and I don't even get why. So what you said about blacks having it possible easier in this country irked me some what ,and I wondered if the comment you made was coming from that place.

I'm not going to lie, that's deeply bothering because it's a gross misunderstanding.

Most of us get upset because we can't get receive benefits that were contractually obligated to us.

It's not astronomical handouts that's the concern. It will be something like Retirement benefits or the GI Bill, both of which are payed into during your contract. We lack representation in Washington because we lack numbers. That's the same reason why Muslims, Asians and Sikhs are discriminated against so much because they lack enough numbers for people to "care".

Instead of this country being a democratic-republic(mix of representation and majority rule), it's simply a democracy(majority rule).

Please understand that I love black people in general. I do not support white victimhood or racism. I do agree with Sowell, Steele and other economic conservatives that the system we have in place is severely faulty.

I may not agree with the racial element he added to the post, but I understand his view. When you're a white male who comes out of active duty you have effectively missed the expected window to attend college with all those governmental handouts based on your high school graduation and federal education (FAFSA) benefits pend on age many times.

So, you're a mid 20's-early 30's white male who can't get into work or college that easily and everyone is passing you up, with free money to boot, because they all have rights groups giving them more handouts for simply being who they are.

Affirmative action is always a contentious subject, but it does crucially bare looking into.

Thomas Sowell, of the top of my head, and others have presented data showing middle class black adults using the brunt of affirmative action beneficiary programs while the black lower middle class and black poverty/working class languish further because they cannot compete with the higher classes in secure AA benefits.

The AA system is successfully exploited by the black higher class, who also maintains protected class status due to racial identity, yet not having to suffer the social disparities of being trapped in a crime-inclined, lower income community. Being black middle-class affords you great possibility to dodge racial discrimination and police corruption.

So to be black middle-class means to be within reach of all the handouts laid before black people by the civil rights actions of the decades and simultaneously being viewed with default lack of privilege/access/opportunity due to race.

Looking at today's situation without bias, a middle class black individual in America could exploit the hell out of the system with the proper steps.

Who really has the upper hand among average white and black males in society? It's hard to say. Complaining about victimhood from either and framing the other as competition is destructive.

Drop your emotional guard and look at the situation for a minute with a "red pill view" as they say around here.

The trick with the military is to understand they will abuse you every chance they get.

Knowing this, you take every advantage they military offers you with no remorse.

Some people treat the military as a way of life, if that's you thats cool...but the best route is to understand it is a career path that can lead to very positive benefits.

You use the military to gain as much possible experience and training. When you've reach the apex, the point where the military options are less enticing than the civilian options...you leave. You did your time. Take your experience and training and make money elsewhere
