This is actually what was used to help a girl recover from her nose job. It's tried and true, battle tested and Fit Juice approved.

The plastic surgeon couldn't believe how quickly she recovered.

Also, get some topical arnica gel. (It's at Whole Foods.) It's a major anti-inflammatory and will knock down swelling with a quickness and get white blood cells circulating to the area.

You seriously have an answer for everything don't you? Bigsmile

I'll try to drink as much as I can. Seems like I should avoid it with protein.

Only problem with gels and ointments is I can't get inside the cast to apply.

Hah. My trick is to only answer when you know what you're talking about and keep quiet otherwise. Wink

You can always get the arnica pellets. They look like this:

slubu, how has the healing gone?

Did you use any of the supps or protocols that anyone here recommended, and if so do you think that they had any effect?

RE: Tips foe Healing Broken Bones Faster
^^ Sorry man missed that post. I actually just went in to get a 2nd opinion today because...

It's been 4 months now to the day and I'm not healed yet. The bone hasn't fully healed. According to this second doc today, "it's quite unusual and frankly I've never seen a metacarpal break not heal after 3 months." He basically doesn't think it's going to ever heal.

Kind of disappointing, and not sure why. I did take all those supplements that people listed on fairly regular basis. The odd thing is when I got the main cast off after 6 weeks, the doctor told me it was "amazing" how easily I was moving my hand given it was in a cast and broken like that. It seems like after a while it stopped healing for some reason.

Now I'm wondering how much effect alcohol and smoking may have had in this process. I thought it would maybe delay the healing by a few weeks at most, but potentially it has done so even more?

I recall reading a few years ago about how bad smoking is for healing bones and bone density. However I don't smoke that much, let's say 1-2 packs a month at most. Basically I have a few cigs on some nights I drink and that's all.

Kind of frustrating, and not sure what to make of it. Sad

Start using it more and more, but no impact sports for at least a year.

WIA- For most of men, our time being masters of our own fate, kings in our own castles is short. Even those of us in the game will eventually succumb to ease of servitude rather than deal with the malaise of solitude

Very strange. I had the exact same fracture as you, and I'm 2 days out of my cast (which was on for 3.5 weeks). Took an x-ray at the hospital and the doc said all was well. I can start working out right away, I only have to avoid shocks to my hand like you get with boxing or hitting nails with a hammer.

The docter said that if it hadn't healed right, he would do an simple surgery in which he would bolt the bone together with a screw.

I would contact another specialist right away and ask for an operation. You can even do it under a local anaesthetic.

Smoking seems to be a major block for healing (bones).

Thanks all for the responses/help. I keep thinking how I just wished I didn't forget my gloves that day. Though I will say I have easily gotten a few more bangs as a result of this injury. I guess that's one bright side.

No prescription drugs, still taking the supplements though not as frequently.

Yeah, I'm not going to be punching anything for awhile. I started gripping the lat pull down bar, and other weights recently. All is ok for that, for now.

Well I'm off to Europe in a few days so it'll have to wait until I come back. I'll do another xray/CT and see where it stands.

I know. Trying to lessen it a bit by bit.

Had the same thing, but I started using it too early and it disfigured my hand permanently. Probably a good idea to hold off a few months.

Shit, sorry I didn't see this earlier. Vitamin K2(Super K from Life Extension) and food grade diatomaceous earth are the two most important supplements you should be using right now.

Vitamin K2, specifically menaquinone-7, is essential for mitochondrial calcium allocation. In your situation I would be taking at least 400mcg of MK-7 per day with the proper amount of Vitamins A and D3.

Diatomaceous earth is 89% silicon dioxide. Silica is one the the most important building blocks of bones, and most westerners are very silica deficient. DE also has calcium, zinc, copper, iron, magnesium, etc. There is a laundry list of the benefits DE provides us, and every health conscious person should have it as a staple in their diets.
