Ok... ive pondered on it, and i think this video is clearly a metaphor for game and peacocking.

Mario isn't the only one chasing (approaching) the princess... but his outfit stands out of the whole crowd of oribters around him, so he's the only one that sticks in ours or Peach's memory.

Then all the barrels (shit tests) start coming out of nowhere and from experience and practice he deftly leaps and dodges almost all of them, with the few he doesn't not costing him the game.

And as a result he gets the princess's flower multiple times.

Boom.

Hell it even says each flower permanently adds to his flower points (notches) at the end of the video.
