RE: "Why Do You Lift?" - Getting Clear On Your Why
Lifting teaches delayed gratification.

I started when I was 15 and it is without a doubt one of the best things that ever happened to me.

Moving from good to great takes love and obsession. You have to let it consume you.

To be great you have to eat, sleep, piss, and shit whatever it is you are doing.

Men should lift solely to see the physical potential of the bodies that have been temporarily granted to them.

To increase testosterone and release HGH. To be more calm, focused and walk around with head held high.

Dr Johnson rumbles with the RawGod. And lives to regret it.

At first I used to lift for being healthy and all that Jazz but know I lift to add one more weapon to my arsenal....to get dem bitches.

After my cut the couple last bangs told me to just lay there and dont move.....

Another thing I like is how clothes fit....for instance I never liked suits but now I do...

I never liked wife beaters but dem traps keep the bitches miring. .

RE: "Why Do You Lift?" - Getting Clear On Your Why
I always say to supplement my boxing. But really strength helps very little with boxing beyond pretty basic levels.

I'd say the real reasons are that:

I enjoy it

It helps keep my drinking under control because I know any hard won strength gains will be lost if I go on a bender

Vanity - every time girls say things like 'wow I wasn't expecting that' when I take my shirt off, it keeps me motivated

Competitive nature - if other people have 8 packs, then anything less is simply not good enough. If my friend is overhead pressing bodyweight, then anything less is not good enough (this is my current goal actually, getting very close), etc.

Habit - been doing it 15 years now so it would feel strange not to (times I've had breaks from it all were fun, but I felt like I lacked structure without sports and S & C)

Cos it is better than punching people in the face when you are stressed.
The respect you get from others that doesn't need to be bought.
I lift because my body is the only thing I can control.
The feeling you get when women gravitate towards you.

If I was a skinny hard to build type I would spend much more of my efforts on MMA

Good points, this is often over looked, there are many ectomorphs (skinny hard gainers) that can get more bang for their buck putting their efforts into other things than force-feeding and being in the gym all day.

I respectfully disagree. I was the epitome of a skinny hardgainer (puny wrists, fit but never able to put on weight) and have gained more than 40 pounds in just under a year.

It's all about keeping yourself in calorific surplus and getting enough protein. Squats and milk combined with lots of meaty meals works for even the skinniest ectomorph.

RE: "Why Do You Lift?" - Getting Clear On Your Why
The way I see it, pursuits usually start with a superficial motive based on the results of someone else. But this motive needs to eventually transform into an obsession of the intrinsic craft to achieve excellence. Along the way, more valuable benefits emerge, things that were outside the scope of the original motive. The process requires consistent progress over time. For consistent progress, the indicator of progress has to be tangible and measurable. Consistent progress should never get boring and it's highly addictive for those that achieve great results.

RE: "Why Do You Lift?" - Getting Clear On Your Why
Lifting for me is both meditative and therapeutic. When I'm under that heavy bar, the only thing on my mind is the fight against gravity. My mind is cleansed of any crap it picks up earlier in the day. Tough problems seem easier to tackle after a lifting session has got me in the zone. If it weren't for lifting calming me down, I would've unnecessarily burned many bridges for no good reason, or got sent to prison for smashing someone's head in.

It's also one of the few areas in life where progress, no matter how small, is easily measurable and observable. If I can now put 1 extra pound on a lift, I've just improved myself. That tiny bit of confidence booster can carry over to other things I do, where progress can take a much longer time to become observable.

RE: "Why Do You Lift?" - Getting Clear On Your Why
I started lifting sporadically in high school because I was skinny and thought it would attract girls.

I lifted here and there in college when I wasn't too drunk, high, or hungover.

Started lifting consistently 3-5 days a week once I graduated. Didn't have a serious job, and lifting was the one thing I had control over in my life. Almost every day I'd study a language/skill and hit the gym.

Now I'm working but still lift 3-5 days a week. I want to constantly improve myself, and I can't stand the thought of losing 2 years worth of gains.

Being big boosts my confidence all around. Guys and girls have an automatic respect for a bigger guy. When you see how people react more positively to you on the outside, it subconsciously boosts your inner game.

RE: "Why Do You Lift?" - Getting Clear On Your Why
What I say on the internet (truth):

-I was small (135 pounds)
-I didn't have many prospects because I looked weak and submissive
-I didn't get much respect
-I didn't feel good, my testosterone was shit and I was depressed

-Now I'm 175lbs 12%bf
-Available girls went from 1 to 8 (only two are fuckbuddies but others are openly offering themselves)
-Much more respect from men, they mirin
-Feel much more confident, manly, learned a bunch of stuff about self improvement, seen the effects of will, dedication and motivation and applied all of it to other aspects of life

What I answer to girls/people I don't take seriously:

-I don't. I just bought Ab Roller. If you buy two it's twice as fast to get jacked
-I don't. I saved an abandoned gypsy kid once. His mother put a curse on me so I'm now unable to hold any child without crushing it to death.
-I don't. My jealous ex threw a liquid creatine into my face. I was in a coma for a week before I woke up jacked as fuck. Creatine, not even once.
-I don't. It's genetics. (I tell this to every fat girl)
-I have myostatin deficiency. I actually suppress further growth by drinking so much, otherwise I wouldn't be able to wipe my ass from all the muscle.
-So I can break Batman when the time comes.

All or Nothing touched upon it. I workout to use my body to it's full potential. We've been granted this physical body - the only thing we've been guaranteed in this life. It's seems silly not to use it to it's full capability. Your body is adaptive, resilient, efficient, and responsive to what you as of it. The human body is capable of some pretty impressive things and I for one would like to see that out.

I lift because I want to be stronger than I am. I feel calm when I exercise. It will go a long way to keeping my emotions under control.

My main reason for lifting the way I do is to increase balance and explosiveness.

I lift mainly because I want to look fucking good. Huge confidence boost when people compliment me on my physique (I don't think I look that good yet, bigorexia is a real thing). Also to do some insane superhuman shit like the human flag. Image whipping one of those out in a park and the stares you'll get.

I might have a touch of bigorexia permabulkus.

I'm not really into the bodybuilding aspect but I do find that getting stronger has an addictive quality.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

I lift so I don't look or act like a woman. I notice subtle changes in my personality if I haven't lifted for a week.

Jay that video, whoever that indian dude is, is my goal.

I lift because I was a scrawny hard gainers, I've been more serious in the last 2 years and have seen results.

I lift because it brings me peace, it makes me focus, it decompresses me from the day, I sleep better at night, and it puts me in a good state of mind before a date.
