I feel that not having complete confidence until you are the best at something or nearly the best is a blessing in disguise. It pushes you to get better because you want to kill the insecurity of not being the best.

If you didn't have those feelings you may get lazy way sooner than being the best.

Makes sense, once you start doing game and gaining confidence in your life, everything shifts. Goals that seemed hard become easy and you want to improve in all areas of your life.

There's a bait-and-switch in that article that make it seem a bit more "against the grain" than it really is. Specifically, they start out talking about absolute self-confidence, then abruptly switch to "over-confident" and "under-confident" which implies irrational or "unjustified" confidence.

It's probably true that people read confident body language as a shortcut to evaluating someone's ability. And we probably do it because it probably works more often than not, because competence usually leads to confidence. A bit of over-confidence in someone with a high baseline confidence isn't necessarily dishonest or shocking.
