The increase in wages has been huge if you continue to work in the right space. There is always something good going on.

I'd say today? SF is the #1 place in the world to make money. If you're not making money in SF you won't make money anywhere.

If money isn't your thing the out doors/cultural stuff all mentioned is true. That's not my thing perse but it is true. I would leave if the city paid like crap.

WC, given your industry, I've always been curious as to why are you in SF instead of NYC. Any thoughts of moving, or is your firms (or your portfolio) focus so tech-centered that it makes no sense to be in NYC?

In SF and LA coming up soon. For SF will probably go to Half Moon for a day, play some golf, hang at Mavericks and have a good microbrew, then in the city probably kick around North Beach, get a few good workouts at a buddys gym, maybe go have some real burritos in the Mission. In LA, torn as to whether to stay by the beach and get some sun and fresh air, or check out the Standard downtown, because I never stay downtown but I know its cool. Hang with some friends in Echo Park, eat some good food, enjoy the vibe. Every time I fly back I am kicking and screaming.

Westcoast, would say NYC is #1 for making money as an entrepreneur(i.e. access to more resources, talent, capital, etc), SF/SV is next, but thats my east coast provincial side, LOL

WC took me to his club on lock, but it was maybe 10.30pm. I walked in and some hipster blonde early 20s blonde girl (6.5+) grabbed me and kissed me. I laughed and went to the bar to take a shot w/WC. Then a cute asian girl(6.75+) grabbed my hand and we danced for 5 mins. Zero social proof.

I understand if you can't pull a girl EVERY NIGHT. I understand that snobby bitches are annoying, but you can't even find 1-2 cool girls per night? I find that hard to believe.

I spent 8 years in the South Bay and moved to Houston recently. My move was motivated by getting tired of the ridiculous cost of living and getting accepted into a program here. I'm renting a spacious condo with good logistics for 1K a month utilities included with a washer and dryer in the unit. It would go for 2-2.5x that amount in the Bay with no in house laundry or utilities thrown in. Gas is currently $3.15 a gallon. No state income tax or restrictive gun laws. The girls have much better attitudes and are hotter (disclaimer: I'm partial to latinas). No place is perfect, but Houston has been a good move.

Sometimes what I wish is that we had a photo to go along with the claims of guys getting pulled by the hand from random chics and such. A photo of the guy that is. I think that can explain a lot of the discrepancies in experience we hear about, not just in this thread but in general.

Some guys are always complaining about how difficult some place is, how many 5s act like 9s, how bad bitch shields and cockblockers are. Then some dudes talk about breezing into a club and making out with hotties before they can even order a drink.

I'm willing to bet looks has a lot to do with this. Much more than many are willing to admit. I'm still waiting for someone to show me a pic of an average looking guy(a 5 on the guy scale) who has a harem of hot girls who isn't wealthy or famous.

^ two things.

1. If you are in great shape (not average shape) and you dress extremely well you are a 6-7 at minimum. Anyone who is a 5 is out of shape or B can't dress for shit and has people say "do you work here" or don't even get checked out. My rule is 3 complements a day (or iRapes) from strangers on your outfit or you can't dress well. That's how big style is.
2. Just meet the guys and make a decision yourself, as you know good looking guy advice is pretty useless.

I second this. I left California a few months ago. And you know what? I don't miss it nearly as much as I thought I would. A buddy of mine left L.A. and moved to Mexico City about a year before I left. He says he doesn't miss L.A. at all. So many people in California are really wrapped up with the idea of living in California. It's like they can't imagine living anywhere else. I used to be like that. Your average hipster in the Mission would rather live with 5 roommates than buy his own house in a different state. In my opinion, from a cost/value perspective, California is just no longer worth it. High unemployment puts no upward pressure on wages and the increasing population/immigration puts constant upward pressure on rents and houses. Water is drying up, population is still growing with no end in sight and they can't(or won't) build enough to homes to keep up with demand and make them affordable. Unless you are making six figures, don't even bother with the big cities in California. Sure you can scrap by on half that in Riverside or Bakersfield, but who the hell wants to live there?

What I see in California is a lot of class warfare. Who knows where it comes from, liberals, feminists, environmentalists, etc, but most natives fall for it because its been repeated to them basically from birth, from everyone around them over and over. Its basically natives who are pissed at the non-natives for making more money and getting further ahead. When you say "aww this place ain't so great" I usually read it as the person is having a hard time making money or getting ahead. The happiest people I know in CA work very hard, protect their money, have businesses or invest wisely, non-native or not. I think what pisses the natives off more is watching immigrants rise up quickly, or even out of state US folks come there and making a killing, then coming up with excuses for their success like; 'hes white', or 'hes an immigrant so he gets special treatment' etc, seen and heard it all.

But lets not mistake that its the probably the nicest place on earth to live, anyone that says otherwise again always triggers the reaction in me "oh they are not doing well". Most of the US sucks anyway, go try it out and see. Taxation is everywhere, and if you are afraid of diversity then move to New England, but dont tell me California sucks and is the worst place ever.. then I know something is wrong.

The funny thing was the story from above was a time-period WC would "down-dress" to increase difficultly level. I couldn't fathom why you would voluntarily put yourself in a disadvantaged position, but i guess he was experimenting.

@Speakeasy- welcome to come meet me in LA. I've put in time to dress myself well, stay in good shape, wear good cologne. Almost anybody can be a "guy 7" if you put in some effort. WallStreetPlayboys had a good post on it on how to go from a 4-5 to a 7-8.

And this is why it's so expensive to live in CA. Supply and demand. Along the coast at least, it never gets too cold and never gets too hot. It has some of the most beautiful natural beauty anywhere too. It even smells good from the vegetation.

It is good if you have a certain success in your career and stacking some cheddar.

I think most of the complaints about San Francisco in this thread is due to the cost. Despite all it's draws, I would not live in SF if I was 25 years old and making $50k a year (nor would I live in NYC). I'd live in Dallas or something.

^if you're an average dude, then California is just not worth it. the COL is the biggest killer, adding to the shitty job market here. living in more desirable locations is not possible unless you're making minimum $100k/year. but yeah dude, I know too many people my age (late teens and early 20s) who want to leave California because if you're young, this is not the place to be.

for girls, I can't complain as much since I already have a girl. my only complaints with California relating to the women are that the white chicks (I'm more into white girls physically) here are too dam weird.

SF is in about as beautiful a setting as a city can be. Great restaurants, great architecture and history, beautiful parks, colorful neighborhoods. But it's a terrible place from a cost/value perspective. I still think everyone needs to visit at least once. Cape Town, Tel Aviv, and Beirut are the only places that come to mind. Each of these places including SF have very big drawbacks.

I haven't been to Cape Town, but I've been to Tel Aviv, Beirut, Lisbon, Valparaiso, etc.

Valpo is a spitting image of SF. It's kinda ridiculous how similar they are. I'm talking from the colors, hills, to the climate and even the damn cable cars.

I couldn't get over it.

But culturally, I think SF has more going on than any place that would be compared to it. It's almost like a very compact NYC, a city of neighborhoods. It's crazy how small SF is yet how many distinct neighborhoods it has.

As for being boring, I don't know. Where else in America isn't? Maybe NYC, but every other place gets old and even in NYC you need a break from time to time. What makes SF unique is that you have a city but then there's epic nature very nearby. You can do a lot of shit within a short drive. It's a real city too, not a collection of giant suburbs like LA. You don't really need a car in many areas of SF.

The last call sucks for sure but SF isn't really the spot for the night game playboy. I think Gio carved out a good niche with his day game philosophy.

SF is also not a good spot for an international jetsetter. California is a black hole logistically for international travel. You're going to have to sit on a plane for a long time and maneuver through airports to get anywhere.

But then again California is like a nation unto itself and there's a shit ton of activities so you don't really need to go somewhere else to do something. The weather is also excellent. Best climate in the US hands down.
