Also in some people it surpresses your immune system. I have no problem with people smoking pot, or even the government legalizing it. but its just not my cup of tea.

RE: does smoking pot everday make you more passive?
I tried smoking weed regularly for one summer to see if it improves my creativity with my projects. It surely made me relaxed but I couldn't get anything done. I got no problem with occasional use and I think for some people it can be helpful. Nowadays I rather trip with psychedelics 0-3 times a year than use any drugs regularly.

I'll just add;

Nothing wrong with smoking up once or twice a week or so, it becomes a problem for most people when it becomes daily use.

There is enough anecdotal evidence out there to say that everyday pot smokers who don't lose motivation are exceptions to the rule.

For selfish reasons, I hope they do legalize marijuana. It will reduce my competition.

I think the problem with many who engage in pot is that they adopt the pothead culture. They start acting and dressing like the potheads & hanging around with potheads. As far as I know, they aren't the most ambitious and competitive people out there -- instead they rather like to chill and complain.

most people I know/met who smoked pot regularly were lazy underachievers and lacked drive...that's just my own anecdotal observation

There's a difference in the type of weed you smoke or ingest.

Heavy indicas make me lethargic, paranoid and want to retreat from public. That's no fun.

Pure sativas, however, make me social, energetic and optimistic. I love hiking or biking while on sativa.

All things in moderation, of course.

frenchie, you're a young guy (around 25 I'd guess) so you may be able to get away with it for now, but I'd watch it over time -- you always want to quit while you're ahead with this sort of thing.

One of the main ways your body and brain change as you get a little bit older (even late 20s and 30s) is that it gets harder to flush out the effects of a repeated insult such as the long-term administration of a drug. You can feel just as well in every way in your 30s and 40s as you do in your 20s if you keep your shit clean -- but you can also start taking damage of both obvious and less obvious kinds if you keep jamming your brain with a psychoactive drug like pot day in day out.

Again, don't want to be a buzzkill here -- but you want to enjoy your life and your body to the utmost for a long time to come, so watch it and don't hesitate to set the pot aside if you feel the least sign of a problem, anything like sluggishness, lower libido, less interest in life, and so on. No matter what, if you're still doing it regularly past your late 20s you're trying your luck.

RE: does smoking pot everday make you more passive?
Maybe I can compare this to porn.

I used to watch a lot of it, to the point it affected my confidence in myself. Watching too much gave me anxiety.

So I went a long time without it. Months straight, every now and then I'd watch it. At one point I went 4-5 months without watching porn once.

Nowadays I enjoy it occasionally. Once a week or every now and then. I realize porn is fun, but watching too much is playing with fire. So moderation is key.

I smoke weed every now and then. It's fun and relaxing. But I never get too comfortable with it.

depends on the person. i smoke everyday because i like to smoke. im active as hell and workout a lot and it makes me hyper, not sluggish. it makes sex, surfing, free-diving and snowboarding absolutely mind blowing, and it helps to keep your wad from not cumming in 30 seconds. i used to roll jiu jitsu and some of the higher belts (blacks and browns) would be absolutely ripped in the morning for our class and destroy everyone. dont know how anyone could do that.

RE: does smoking pot everday make you more passive?
Weed kills testosterone that's a no bummer , but other than that the problem is not actually marijuana itself...

An excerpt from Roosh's brief introduction to buddhism

"• The Four Noble Truths
Dukkha
Definition: whatever is impermanent or changing
There is a dark side to pleasure when it is removed. Detachment and objectivity is true
liberation. Detachment brings freedom from suffering
“Pleasurable experiences are also dukkha because they contain the seeds of dissatisfaction
within them. A gardener can get great pleasure fromhis garden only if he accepts the fact
that seasonal conditions vary.” Don’t rely on circumstances. "

Drugs have a high impact on mood and overall psychology, this requires cautious management ; habits, behaviour, feelings , body posture(weed can easily muffle your dominant side) , time management

if you can't use it as a tool (don't use drugs only to relax and shutdown your brain from everyday bullshit) just stop, you might be already psychology dependent.

that happens when you smoke weed always before doing something pleasurable (using it as an reward amplifier to going out, playing an instrument, read, study, practice, exercise) , this will mess up your habits, like a pavlovian disruption, especially if need creativity energy.

As smoking everyday increases your drug tolerance you will smoke 2 or 3 times a day , then you will need to build drug induced emotional states to do the stuff you actually like or need to do , this is the difference between marijuana and other drugs, rather that intense physical abstinence syndrome ,weed just makes everything boring without it ... Stripping all of your will power, which is not an infinite resource.

Can anyone provide scientific evidence that marijuana reduces testosterone? This sounds like bro-science to me.

Here's an excerpt from NORML:

Quote:Myth: Marijuana Causes Sterility and Lowers Testosterone
Government experts concede that pot has no permanent effect on the male or
female reproductive systems.1 A few studies have suggested that heavy marijuana
use may have a reversible, suppressive effect on male testicular function.2 A recent
study by Dr. Robert Block has refuted earlier research suggesting that pot lowers
testosterone or other sex hormones in men or women.3 In contrast, heavy alcohol
drinking is known to lower testosterone levels and cause impotence. A couple of lab
studies indicated that very heavy marijuana smoking might lower sperm counts.
However, surveys of chronic smokers have turned up no indication of infertility or
other abnormalities.

Less is known about the effects of cannabis on human females. Some animal studies
suggest that pot might temporarily lower fertility or increase the risk of fetal loss,
but this evidence is of dubious relevance to humans.4 One human study suggested
that pot may mildly disrupt ovulation. It is possible that adolescents are peculiarly
vulnerable to hormonal disruptions from pot. However, not a single case of impaired
fertility has ever been observed in humans of either sex.

Footnotes

3. Dr. Robert Block in Drug and Alcohol Dependence 28: 121-8 (1991).
4. NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES Report, p. 97-8.

I have yet to find a conclusive study that says marijuana reduces testosterone levels. Sounds like straight up bro-science that conforms with the lazy stoner stereotypes. I know plenty of weightlifters, athletes, and masculine men who smoke weed often. I'm not checking their testosterone levels, but you wouldn't call them Gay to their face.

kapitaw, these testosterone studies (which are in any case inconclusive and contradictory) only serve to obscure the issue.

There is no need to rely on specific "studies" that look at a very particular and noisy measurement of the intractably complex human endocrine system, when we know from everyday observation that, while there are exceptions to this, habitual pot smokers have the tendency to become sluggish, lazy and passive as time goes on.

This kind of observation is of far greater value in understanding the likely course of chronic marijuana consumption than the poorly quantified measurement of this or that specific indicator that is hopelessly insufficient in capturing the full picture. Studies, if properly designed, have their place and usefulness, but they should not be blindly fetishized as if they could somehow replace the totality of human experience and common sense.

I was psychologically addicted to it for some time, but I smoke irregularly now during social events. It's great for occasional recreational use or if you're alone with a chick. Don't do it to cope like I did or it will drain time and money. Just smoke once every month or more than a month and it can give you positive effects.

Yes I agree. Most older, daily smokers are burn outs. Not many can hack it every day and have everything in order. I'm at the point where a few hits of good is enough unless I'm going out or a special occasion. I do like bonding with people I love over alcohol and weed. Still nothing like puffing a fatty with some good music playing. Girls always said I was nicer when stoned and I was picking up the most girls when I was always stoned question probably because I get goofy and don't talk as much shit.

I agree Lizard. Common sense and observations are too often ignored in favor of scientific studies.

If you've ever read Antifragile by Nassim Taleb he brings up the point that scientific studies in order to get published in the best journals are biased towards findings that are "controversial". Confirming something that has already been accepted as the truth is not as good for your scientific reputation as authoring a ground breaking new study refuting everything we've accepted.

It doesn't surprise me that some guys are not affected negatively by weed, or are even helped by it. For example, guys that are physically intimidating and extroverted might be benefited by weed since it could make them less intimidating to girls and playful. I think most guys become more introverted while under the influence though.

Also, I doubt that the medical community has been able to isolate the long term effects of marijuana itself since so frequently long term users also drink, take other drugs, or are inflicted by an illness which necessitated the marijuana use.

You can't ignore the legal implications either. While obviously it is pretty low risk to get high at your own house, if some freak incident happens and you do end catching a case you could end up limiting your career and or travel options. It is kind of ridiculous but people tend to look much more favorably on alcohol infractions then drug infractions, even when it is just weed.

Experimentation in college is accepted in the US and almost expected somewhat from kids these days, but the farther you move up in your 20's the more stigma is attached.

I have read an interview a few month ago where one UFC fighter said if they are going to start drug tests and check for THC then they wont have enough fighters to compete anymore.

Also if you ever join a coffee shop in the netherlands you will be surprised to see all kind of different people, including lots of business people.

When I used to smoke I gave a shit about it and everybody knew about it. This lead me to be smoking with lots of people where you would never expect it.

The problem is that most people cannot deal with it, but well, this happens with TV, fast food, video games, and the million other drugs that are more dangerous than weed (inlcuding alcohol!( as well.

And I second kapitaw. Governments are rather scared of their people smoking weed, because this makes the people think.

But sure, if you are smoking it everyday than it makes you more passive, because you get some more important shit done in the same time.
