Well, I was hoping to calm down a bit this week in order to not have anything exciting to write about. Unfortunately, I have a story to tell.

He got a deal because he was on the ground and fluent in Spanish and was able to negotiate. He is on the forum so if he wants he will chime in. Are you just looking for a room in an apartment or an apartment for yourself? Month to month is gonna be hard to rent your own apartment and much more expensive, but a shared place is easy and cheap and more fun IMO. I wouldn't get a place in advance, just stay in hotels/hostels until u find the perfect place.

I was kind of hoping to find a furnished short term rental apartment like the ones in the Philippines. You could pay by the day, week, or month. I wouldn't mind paying $800 or a so a month if the apartment was worth it. The only ones I seem to find online are like $1200 or higher.
I would be willing to rent a room in a shared house/apartment somewhere with some other guys like you are doing. Preferably younger guys who know whats up ha.

I found a really nice flat in Miraflores on Airbnb. One bedroom furnished nicely they are asking $1340 a month for it. It shows its available to book from May 15 - July 15... So does that mean no one else has any days between then booked? If so I should be able to get it a little cheaper I would imagine. Specially since its gonna be off season (Winter) there around that time. I am giving myself a $2000 a month budget. If I drop $1000 in rent how far will my other $1000 a month take me in Miraflores? I'm thinking food, gym, taxis, going out on weekends will add up... I really don't wanna go over budget cause I the money I am saving by only spending $2000 a month is going towards something.

This apartment looks really nice, I wish I could post pics but Airbnb seems to not let me get the photos from their site. If I could still live pretty well on the $1000 left over a month I think I will be all over this flat....That is also if I can talk them down to $1000 a month instead of the $1340 they are asking. Be nice if I could get it for $800! Since its winter time there and like I said it seems to be available for the next few months... Peruvians are one of the most barterable people. Aim low, these people renting places at high prices are idiots and would probably take easily half the price. Negociate, negociate, negociate.

There are plenty of exercise bars along the Malecon where you can do calesthenics overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Also, my friend leads a "freeletics" group on the Malecon. Great way to meet people and great exercise. Dont pay for a dumbass gym membership, unless u have the money and really want a gym. there are no shortage of exercise opportunities in Lima.

Sup fellas, been in Peru for a few weeks now...got to spend 2 days in Lima (miraflores/ barranco) upon arrival, then just completed a 12 day ayahuasca retreat in Iquitos...it's nice being back in civilization aka miraflores but I leave for Cuzco and Machu Pichu/ Salkantay 4-day camping trip on Sat...not sure when I come back to Lima but my flight back to the US is May 19th..so may spend the last 4-days here before leaving...At this point, I'm still on the aya-retreat diet which means no pork, booze or "sampling the local culture"...but by the time I return hopefully the chains are off. Anyone gonna be around by then?

Ok guys spent two weeks in Peru; here's a summary:

General info:

Lima (total time spend: 5 days)

-Stayed in the hotel in Barranco which a poster here named Goldmund suggested called 'la quinta Allison', the price there is now 60 soles (23$) for an individual room, 5th night is free, it has all the basics except for internet in your room (depending where in the building) and no fancy stuff but overall good value for money. The owners didnt care about bringing back girls.
-Only went to Miraflores and Barranco, most tourist don't go outside these areas, except for visiting the old city centre. A taxi between the two is 6 soles or about 2,5 $.
-During day there are some nice shopping places, like larcomar and also around park Kennedy, generally a good place to meet girls
-Nightlife is concentrated in Barranco around 'the bulevard' a street with some 'dance' bars and in Miraflores around Calle Pizza.
-ate some anti-cuschos (cow heart) which was surprisingly good and some very nice cheviches as well. Food in general was cheap and very good.

Cusco (one week)

-stayed in a hostel besides club Templo, it was very old and a bit shitty but I had a private room there for 40 soles which is very cheap. The bed made a ridiculous amount of noise though and the water was cold. A decent place for a budget traveller who is not sure to have a girl but wants to have a single room in case of luck. The owner actively encouraged me to find girls hehe. He hooks you up with better prices for the activities around as well.
-did the 4 day Jungle trip to Macchu picchu for a bit over 200$ (with student card you can go under) with the extra 'montana' included (not hayynu picchu but the other one). Overall it was cool, the first day is just travelling and then 2 hour mountainbiking downhill. No reason to go so early imo, but the biking provides for some nice views, no problem to be hungover this day. Second day is doing part of the inca trail. About 9 hours of hiking in total in beautiful landscapes, really cool day but you'll be tired afterwards. You end up in a hot springs place which is great for relaxing. 3th day can be good I assume if you do the rafting (30$) and the ziplines (30$). Someone died in the rafting two weeks ago so it was not open and I was in a non zipline group which made that it was pretty boring, since we just walked the whole path along the river (6 hours). Last day is going up to MP. It's a short but very steep climb, just about 1 hour and a bit of steep inca steps. Your muscles will burn. Doing the extra mountain afterwards and in a rush will make your legs sour for a few days. Bring lots of water and make sure your well rested. MP is great and I think everyone will enjoy seeing that. Maybe a bit hyped but still a cool place.
-Wildwater rafting was ok outside of Cusco, I only paid 90 soles which was a steal with food and transport included. It's only level 3 rapids, but still fun for a day out.
-Plenty of other stuff to do which I didnt have the chance for, couldve spend a month here to be honest and it wouldve been great fun.
-Cool clubs for me where Templo (pounding house music, many tourists), Inca team (mix of music, many locals) and Mythology (cool mix of people, popular dance music, nice place for chilling, dancing or whatever, probably my favourite). I passed by mama africa one night early in the evening and it looked like shit (ugly gringo girls learning salsa dancing), probably gets better late night but i have no idea.
-you can get a massage for 25 soles, a normal one.

Huacachina

-this is a desert oasis where you can do sand surfing/boarding, beautiful place and a cool thing to try out. Lots of tourists though, but also nice parties in the night.


Nightlife/Girls/Game

First a bit about me. Mid-20s, blondish of European descent, pretty good built and decent classic clothing, very good talker, very weak dancer, good in escalating etc.

What can I say, I had 14 days in total of which I was hiking 4 days and spend two in the desert, which gave me 8 nights left, 5 in Lima and 3 in Cusco. Girls are not nearly as hot as in Colombia, I def agree with that, but still most clubs have some 7-8's atleast and my competition was almost zero. The nightlife is pretty standard European/American style, in comparison with Colombia which is much more social circle and much more dancing skills.

Having a year off work to travel. After Vegas and Miami I'm heading to Lima on my own in the beginning of August. My Spanish is non existing and I'm new to game at 26 yrs. Any tips on schools/tutors that won't cost an arm? Prices vary quite a lot online, and it's very difficult to figure out which ones are reliable etc.

The only way to go hostel wise in Lima is Loki hostel. It is a party hostel through, so be warned, if you want something chill, it's not the place. Food is delicious too, and cheap.

I still don't see why people are wanting to spend extended amounts of time in Lima. It's just not the spot man. The city isn't even that cool. The girls are straight up ugly. Not like, "they're alright." No! They're ugly! Every single other Spanish speaking country I've been to has better looking girls, minus Ecuador.
