I've always told girls I have no problems with celebrating valentine's day for a feminine girl who appreciates me and who celebrates the male valentine's day with me.

Edit: I can't remember the last time I bought a girl anything. It's not that I haven't, it's that I never do it on a major holiday. There's just nothing about buying things for girls that appeals to me, and I have zero incentive to. The older I get, the more I have this near-fanatical sense of self-worth. You could call it egotism but I don't think that's doing it justice. I'm starting to realize that masculine, high-value men, are natural cornerstones in a feminine woman's life. Just by being with a girl is way better than anything you could get her, or at least that's my mentality.

Agree with thedude and cincinnatus here. However, I still get something small and symbolic for the girl, like a chocolate. If she's treating me well, I don't see why I wouldn't do a small favor for her to show my appreciation. The only time I'd skip the gift entirely is if she was acting badly in the period before it.

Valentine's day is the consequence, not the cause.
