What are th inciting incidents of the entire story?

Before Brwn gets knocked off the wall.. Here are the ones that I've noticed:

Winter is coming and white walkers are waking up.

The hand of the king was murdered (first episode)... By little finger?

Danyerus is rising to power / birth of dragons.

Here's how I predict these things are going to play out based on how Martin writes. The dragons are a red herring and danyerus will fail to " save the day" as it seems they want her to do.

They are all going to have to evacuate westeros because of the white walkers. Then when they get to Easteros they will have to become subjects of danyerus for her protection.

I think the fever dream she had where it was snowing inside by the throne is evidence that kingslanding is going to be burned to the ground by the dragons.

What does little finger want? He wants to be king?

I think the intentions of the white walkers are unclear.

A little late to the show but just finished the season finale. Some initial thoughts... Daenarys is just an intolerable bitch so part of me feels good to see her fail. Didn't really care for Bran's storyline either. Hoping the Hound lives, his lines were amazing all season long. Tryion has turned into a very mediocre character at this point. Super disappointed that Tywin is now gone. He was an awesome character. Stannis coming to the north was a shocker but it makes sense.

Let this this thread rest.. for those of us addicts of the show, it's painful enough to not have new episodes anymore

Yes. They are apparently building an army with dead in bred babies, among others.

One of the big mysteries of the northern storyline is 'what happened to uncle benjen?'(he was in season one, was a ranger with the Night's Watch, went ranging and was never heard from again)

Yes. Add to that, that LF lies to catelyn about who tried to have her son killed to start up a war between the starks and lannisters. (he told her the assassins dagger belonged to tyrion)

We don't know yet, but it looks like the dragons will certainly come into play. We spent part of every episode following Dany, so I doubt it is a red herring.

Nah. There will have to be some sort of showdown between east and west, but it probably won't happen the way we think it will.

I predict winter will come. The wall keeping the white walkers and other demons north of the wall will fall and we will see some sort of invasion from the north. Dany and probably Bran will use the dragons to fight the night's king and his army. Stannis will also probably try to fight the demons with his mercenary army, and probably get wiped out.

Don't forget the Greyjoys and the ironborn. They will factor into this somehow as well.

I can't remember this, I assume it was when her dragons were captured and in Quarth? I think we will see some sort of ice age when winter comes.

The only thing that he certainly wants is to create chaos and war because that is how he can improve his station in life the fastest. Ultimately, I think he wants to destroy the monarchy in Westeros and create some sort of merit based system of governing.

Valryian is the language of the free and slaver cities in Essos from what i remember, they were all part of the old valryian empire

Supposedly, there are two kinds of Valyirian, one called High Valyrian which is for high-borne, and Bastard Valyrian.

Haven't read the books so I am going to avoid that link but I read somewhere that next season will not feature Hodor and Bran because the show is pretty much caught up to their storyline in the books. I assume it's another season or two before the show is fully caught up with the books, good thing Martin already told HBO what the ending will be in case he dies.

I guess that gives HBO an incentive to assassinate Martin in order to get in news headlines, yet not suffer any losses production-wise.

I predict the next book will come out by Fall 2015. I think he's close to finishing it honestly, and has been steadily releasing chapters and other clues from it.

I think that despite the praise Martin receives, he is still very underrated still. It would be a tremendous loss to lose him. His writing style leaves clues for every action in the books. He has tons of twists and turns, but they are not just tropes...they could all have been predicted by a careful enough reader and I find that amazing. Also, if you do see those points, the plots are so much more complex than you first thought. The problem with doing the show is that it leaves half the layers untouched.

That's true, though it would be impossible to cover the books thoroughly unless they did 20-30 episodes a season. For this reason I read detailed summaries of each episode on online forums posted by people who have read the books. This has spoiled a few things for me and I am aware of some things that will happen in the future but it improves my understanding of the show. If you only watch the show and haven't read the books/don't read detailed explanations of what's going on a lot of the stuff doesn't add up or the story seems incomplete. The worst was when I spoiled the Red Wedding for myself. Oh, well.
