This is an excellent point. One of the things that attracted me to my girlfriend was her courage in moving here immediately after graduation all alone without support from home. Other girls I've dated in the past have had similar stories of wanting to escape their small town and future in a factory. They are more mature and confident, while still maintaining their femininity and values.

I've been to the electronics area once, but it was within hours after my arrival in china with a coworker two years ago. I was still trying to absorb my new surroundings in this strange new land I decided to move to so I can't be much help with my impressions of it. It would be great though if you ventured here to Shenzhen TravelerKai, I'm sure many would like to meet you.

I've followed serpentza since 2012 I think. I guess I didn't put 2 and 2 together to figure out that he was teaching English when he spoke about "training doctors." I assume his friend c-milk is also an English teacher too.

That dude also has the most facepalm-worthy China story a foreigner could possibly have: Literally 2 weeks after coming to China, he meets a 4 at a supermarket because she happens to be able to speak English, then knocks her up and marries her. All at the age of about 25? Or so.

Just...why.

Serpentza is cool in my book though but yeah he's definitely jaded as hell by now and trying his best not to show it.

He married her pretty much bang on two years after his divorce. Same as beer girl she seems to be growing tired of being featured in his videos already. "Welcome to another wideo" is being said with progressively less enthusiasm each time. Saying all of this he has the best expat YouTube channel by far, I've never seen anything close. Speaking on the street rather than in his apartment was genius and makes his videos far more immersive.

Serpentza probably does alright between his online endeavors and his motorcycle business, but I agree; his new wife seems annoyed by him already, and he seems to secretly hate China now. lol

There are plenty of lovely Chinese women who age very decently and I would be happy to be hitched to a lot of the moms I encounter day-to-day in China, but they are still just a 6 (unless you have a bad case of Asian inflation).

I've always suspected they channel their emotions from the sexual drought and lack of meaningful attention into becoming vegetarian. They'll go on about how the food is here is so unhealthy and this is a great opportunity to practice a healthy lifestyle blah blah blah, which includes being vegan or vegetarian. I just think it is related to they aren't getting laid and male attention on wechat. I've worked with about 10 american women since I've been here. Three are dating a chinese man, one of them is pregnant and getting married. They eat meat. Another, who has since moved back home, ate meat. But she was a pig and would fuck any western guy that gave her a glance. The rest? One just moved here, not sure about her social life yet. But the others all have become vegetarians since coming to china and none of them get laid. This one girl, just came from beijing. Once she arrived to shenzhen, i added her on wechat and offered to take her to dinner with my girlfriend and I which she accepted. I then looked for a couple seconds at her picture again. Wrote back asking "you're vegetarian right?" She's comes back with "OMG how did you know?" I answer, "I just do."

Probably won't be able to get a flat for 2000rmb in Nanshan. Nanshan prices are skyrocketing.

I used to live in Daxin, and my rent was 4000rmb for a studio. It was insane. If you move to the outskirts of Nanshan you could find something for 2500 MAYBE, but they'll charge you more because you're a foreigner. Why? China.

How about part-time ESL tutoring work? Are there many opportunities?

I was never good at finding my own students, and always relied on agencies. When looking around for work in Shenzhen in the past, I've noticed they don't have much in the way of agencies that find clients for you like other tier 1 cities. I don't mind taking that pay cut that agencies take, as long as I can get a pool of students and then eventually convince them to stop going through the agency and just pay me directly.
