Just want to mention my favourite magazine in the world - 'The Spectator'.

And more importantly the best writer for that magazine - Rory Sutherland.

He is the head creative guy for the world's largest ad agency. And in each of his columns he always offers a new insight or way of thinking about things which is brilliant.

If you like Malcolm Gladwell - you will like Rory Sutherland. Although - Rory Sutherland column's are much much shorter than the lengthy essays that Malcolm Gladwell writes.

In this week's column - Sutherland mentions his upsetting experience of being locked up in a Qatari jail for 24 hours after being locked up for smoking an electronic cigarette on a plane.

And in that column he inserts the following line which I found pretty interesting:

cardguy, I was able to read at least one of the articles, no paywall. Maybe because I'm running Firefox with NoScript, this defeats some paywalls.

I read the one about phones and liked it. I've also always thought that you should have a very simple non-smartphone just for calls and a separate device for mobile web.

Rory Sutherland has given some excellent TED talks. Well worth checking out by the way.

















He has a few other talks on YouTube as well - and they are all very good.

I am telling you. Rory Sutherland is the man. He is my secret weapon when it comes to finding out interesting new ideas and novel ways of thinking.

I was able to look at 5 articles (haven't read them yet, but just to test the paywall). It doesn't look like there is a paywall for me.

Like I said, running Firefox with NoScript defeats quite a few paywalls (because the site is not able to run the paywall script). Check it out -- it's a fantastic utility and the best way to surf the net.

I was able to read 5 or 6 articles on my cellphone with no issues. I'm not running any kind of ad blocking or noscript software on there either.

I do have to say that I wasn't super-impressed with the guy's writing. He's not bad, sure. But I didn't find anything terribly memorable in them.

I decided in my teens that if I ever ended up in prison I'd come out with a stack of books written. Me and politics don't mix, so being a hermit in my cell would be the safest way for me to get through something like that. I came close to ending up there a few times but fortunately I never had to face that particular motivation to write.

Instead I hermit in SEAsia, though I hardly think my output comes close to what I'd churn out behind bars.
