Question The '90 Day Fiance' show on TLC: Meta-levels of 'sphere-critical undertoning?
I just saw this for the first time, having watched very little TV in recent years. Worth a googling -- the commercials will convey it -- but do yourself the challenge of watching an episode.

It focuses on several American guy / [EE/Latin American/Asian] girl couples who met online and now have 90 days to cohab in the states before deciding whether or not to marry.

Constant a-reel shots of the flyover-state-esque environs of each archetypal American suburbeta and his family reacting to the obvious "is she a mail-order bride?" undertones. The guys all simultaneously compliment-n-cuddle the chicks and pussyfoot around their friends'/families' raised eyebrows and outright questioning. Not once do any of the guys show a backbone in either scenario, nor do they take a break from defensiveness to actually... have FUN with the girls.

The girls are all cute, clearly do want some value out of the whole thing, and display varying degrees of happiness/anticipation/disgust/politeness/coyness/AF-BB/etc. depending on how badly the bfs capitulate or the families instigate.

Obviously the camera presence and reality-show essence play a role, but the producers do a great job of avoiding any lead guys who would NOT crapxemplify blue pillery and attempts at manhood. I would believe it if the producers are gawker type chicks who regularly hate-peruse the sphere, rok, and the like.

Witnessing each guy and girl look the camera in the face and explain their relationship is great case-study in narrative, body language, and realities.

Thoughts?

Interesting show. The guys don't impress much.

Also has some juicy hamster quotes like [paraphrasing accented chick-speak] "i mean, we only have spent 13 days together in person so of course no sex yet! that is now how relationships work." And über-tool lines like "well my parents really want us to stay in separate bedrooms until we move out after the wedding."

Why would I inflict a TV show on myself?

Television sucks. There is nothing on television worth watching, ever.
