Quote:A week after their first meeting, Branson surprised Joan by turning up at her workplace, a shop near London's trendy Portobello Road which sold Victorian posters and antiques.
Anxious to impress, the young Branson swept her off to Duveens, the restaurant he owned nearby. It was the start of a concerted campaign to woo her. Whenever Ronnie was away, Branson was quick to move in with dinner invitations.
He was a regular visitor to the shop, usually walking out with another memento he didn't need.
In fact, everywhere Joan went, Branson would appear, tipped off by mutual friends who worked at his record company.
He even earned the nickname Tag, for his habit of asking if he could tag along with friends who were meeting Joan that evening.
Tell him to fuck off. It's not her fault at this point.
I'm with Vicious here. It is her fault if some guy is pursing her, she's not sending a strong enough message. Sometimes its because she likes the attention or sometimes its because she is 'too nice'.
When I have had this happen before I've taken the girl aside and said "that guy is not being cool, he's being disrespectful to my relationship and thats a problem" she would try to say I'm over reacting or something placating and I would then say "its a problem, either you fix it, or I'll fix it"
If she ever said something like "oh I'd like to see you try tough guy" I'd be dead in the water and my relationship would be on the way to being done, however what would happen is that she would more sternly tell the guy to move on. If the dude got more worked up then I would step in but that only happened once.
That is the approach that I would characterize as 'fixing the girl' its making her responsible for keeping suitors at bay instead of being the victim because she was 'relentlessly pursued' which is bullshit.
Maybe she did lead him on, but you admit here that Branson is being openly disrepectful. If a guy tries to take what he knows is yours, why wouldn't you check him? Well theres a few reasons, but none that are particularly 'alpha'.

I don't think it's wholly Branson's fault. There's a problem with a guy who gives so much love to a woman if he isn't 100% convinced she would rather die than disrespect him.
If you're giving more than you're receiving, keep the feelings in check or walk away.
If it wasn't Branson, it probably would have been someone else. At least Branson tore the band-aid off while the guy was still young. He still had plenty of time to rebuild, but chose not to. I don't know, better to have your girl stolen by a millionaire while you're still young than discover her boning the pool boy after 10 more years and a couple kids.

Sure, it's definitely not wholly Bransons fault. After all, she is the one who broke her vows.
But the way I see it is like someone teasing a dog - if the dog is well trained it won't bite. But at the end of the day, it's still just a dog and if it does bite, it's your own fault for provoking it. The dog is acting true to it's nature, whereas the one teasing it is just being a jerk.

No coincidence that Richard Branson came along right after "they decided to wait a while".
I wonder, if one compared wives who have been "stolen", what the ration would be between wives with no kids and wives with kids.

Soup,
Its societal, after the industrial age and the rise of police forces, the male traits of directness and taking action have faded into the background. To pull another example from The Iliad, Odysseus was considered a sneaky shit in Antiquity, even the fact that he was shorter than the other Greek leaders showed he was considered less manly. He is the one who devised the infamous horse.
In many ways alpha and beta are situational, its a question that has plagued mankind since he first began. Agememnon was the alpha of the Greeks at Troy, but he couldn't win without Achilles. Achilles was alpha on the battlefield, but he didn't win the Trojan war, in fact he was killed by an arrow shot by Paris who was held in contempt as a pussy. But Paris made off of with Menalaus' (the brother of Agamemnon) wife, Helen, so Paris would be considered alpha. Hector, Paris' brother, held of the Greeks from Troy for years, but in the end was slain by Achilles and his son thrown from the walls of Troy, sonthere went his seed. The Greeks would never have taken Troy without Odysseus' strategy, so that makes him alpha though he was considered a short sneaky shit who just wanted to get home to his wife Pennelope (see the Odyssey.) And in the end Agamemnon was killed by his wife and her lover in the bath when he got home, so so much for that alpha.
So of the Greek heroes of the Trojan War was most alpha? Who was beta? Its situational.
Returning to the Branson case, prior to the 19th century the woman's husband could have called Bransin to the field of honor to settle the issue up to the point of death. Prior to the 1960s Branson could have been sued for alienation of affection. But in the modern age most men either have to disassociate or ruminate when they are betrayed.
