Nimmenhamen is the spot where the CMU and well off Thais hang out. Warm Up is, or was and I think still is, the most popular club. Route/Demo style place. Hot chicks. Wealthy Thai dudes with Ferraris and BMWs. I can say when I was there a few years ago I didn't have the style to compete there and was clueless about Thai culture. I think it'll be a difficult spot to pull, but not impossible. I'd run same game as Thonglor. Try to get a number and meet up for drinks later in the week.

There was a killer outdoor Burmese restaurant with super good fried chicken on nimmenhamen soi 6 I want to say it was. By one of.the 7-11s. Eat there if it's still around.

Under 2K Baht is actually a pretty good deal. Air Asia seem cheaper till you start adding up all their fees, including a frigging credit card booking fee. Did you check Bangkok Air as well to see if they were having a competing seat sale? Air Asia flies out of the old airport, so you are going to spend a 400 baht on taxis there and back. Bangkok Air flies out of the Suvranbhumi, and costs less than 50 baht to get there on the Airport Link. Something to keep in mind for the future. They also have their own lounge at CM aiport with snacks, lattes etc.

Go have breakfast at Dada Kafe. Awesome vegetable juices and smoothies for 60 - 70 baht. The best place for healthy food. And for thai food, go to Lemongrass in the night market. You have to go either early or late, peak hours 7 to 9 there is always a big lineup.

For staying, the Imm Hotel next to the McDonalds, right in front of Thaepee Gate is pretty convenient. The rate was $30/night when I was there. They don't bother you or ask any questions if you bring a girl back. If you want to go cheaper, there is a backpacker hostel on Loi Kroh road that looked pretty nice from the outside, and I saw lots of young westerners, coming in and out of there. Maybe spend a couple of nights in that area, and then a coupe around Nimmen. More tourists and backpackers around Thaepee and mostly Thais in Nimmen. The hotels there are more expensive though. There is spanking brand new mall that has opened up right near Nimmen. Lots of university girls hang out there, worth checking out.

Awesome thanks for the tips guys I will have to check out Nimmen. I remember the IMM hotel it was nice but last time I was in CM it was tourist high season and I think rooms were about double that.
@ManAbout I actually live in the Chatuchak/ Ladprao area close to MRT Pahonyotin/BTS Mochit so Don Mueng is only about 20 minutes from me and all taxis in this area turn the meter on without question so that's ok.

Air Asia are sneaky pricks they automatically add a 90 baht insurance policy you have to manually cancel as well as baggage fees (350 baht) I am gonna try and just use a carry on little bag hopefully its possible to fit my shit. Also the pricks charge you 190 baht for using a credit card, luckily I have flown Air Asia lots before and know the tricks. Their website is also shit because if you take a few minutes on one page lots of the time it gives you no countdown or notification and times you out. It happened to me once and my flight went from 800 baht to 1700, I was livid.
I checked THAI and it was like 8k and Bkk Air they had I think 1600 each way and closer to 4k return same with NokAir. Though I will probably will be kicking myself when my Air Asia flight is 45 minutes late as per usual lol.

I've already got my STI place on lockdown (Google 'HIV-NAT'. It's Near Silom: 200 Baht for a HIV test, 50 Baht for Syphilis)

That's brutal Leighton. Sorry I've never needed to see a doctor here so I'm not sure, but you just reminded me of a story. A guy I know came here for a backpacking trip last year. He arrived literally the first day of Songkran and knew nothing about it. He was at Khaosan road and he was thirsty. So what did he drink? A 5baht bottle of songkran ammo! The poor fool had a virus and was sick his entire 10 weeks in Asia.

shit leighton funny you bring that up I got a syphilis test today(100 bhat) at the annoymous redcross near silom. Super easy and fast. Any of the hepatitis strains cost 400 bhat and take a week. For the syphilis I only had to wait an hour. It was negative :banana:and needed it done for a work permit.

Sorry to hear about the ear infection. Check out Kluaynamthai Hospital near prah kanong bts.

I go to Samitivej hospital, but it isn't cheap. Was there the other day for some antibiotics and cost 2,500 for everything.

Should have searched out a normal doctor. Probably cost me much less.

No idea about a normal doctor, I've never been. Let us know when you find one. Id like to know.

Actually in the normal thai residential areas ( not in upscale Sukhumvit/Silom) there are quite a few small clinics.

Doctors consultation fee usually 200THB compared to 700 in the big hospitals (Samitivej, BH, Bumrungrad). Also they charge normal prices for medicine, while hospitals charge 2-3 times the normal price.

As the doctors get commission on the sold medication, you also get stuff you not necessarily need.Especially when they know that foreign insurance refunds, they sometimes try to sell as much as possible.

You could do as the locals and just go buy some antibiotics. Amoxicilin is the weapon of choice for most upper area infections (http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/ear-in...ent?page=2) or Azitromycin if you're allergic to penicilin.

That will be what the doctor orders anyway, but just go see a doctor I think. Go to Camillean Hospital on Thong Lor road: http://www.camillianhospital.org/

It's a christian hospital with low prices. You probably won't pay above 1000 baht for something that simple maybe 1500. Not a lot of english spoken, but an ear infection is easy to diagnose.

There's also a doctors clinic opposite Big C on On Nut road. Probably even less english spoken if at all, but will be cheap. You can get the generic Amoxicilin to save cash.

In thr corner of Phrakanong soi 4 there is a clinic they charged me 100baht for the paper I needed to get the drivers license and spoke English. Looked Much better than the clinic opposite big c onnut too and had at least one cute tingling sister.

my friends all agree with me too about my post, expect they disagree with soi 11, which I can understand. Never got my head around why people loved KSR/JJ market so much, maybe were just grumpy gits?

@Afarang, forgot to say earlier though, your guide on cheap apartments are great and really a rare thing on the internet. When looking for a place, unless you know the name of the building, a lot of things you find are links to Agoda or shady two bit websites. Hope you escape Australia soon.

Also yeah, the STI clinic I was on about is the Red Cross in Silom lol (HIV-NAT on google maps if you need it on your phone). Amazing place. They always finish the test by giving you four novelty-sized condoms.

I agree about Khao San and JJ, have gone to both a handful of times and don't plan to go again.

Has anyone tried flying with Thai Lion Air and not had a shit experience? I flew with them to KL a while back because they're the cheapest, and my flight was delayed 3 hours.
Then I booked another trip because I'm a dumb-ass and they explained to me via email in broken english that my flight was going to be moved from a Friday in April to a Tuesday in May.
I cancelled and was told I will have to wait 9 weeks for my money back.
2/10 would not fly again.

That clinic opposite The Big C (On Nut) is excellent (Sukhimvit 77 Polyclinic)

Took about ten minutes in total. 580 Baht to see a doctor and get all the medicine. Doctor speaks good English.

In Britain I'd have to wait four days for an appointment, then would have to sit in the waiting room for forty minutes with a bunch of miserable, fat English people.

IMO those places aren't that bad, pretty good places to go for a date. Khao San got a few good restaurants whit good live music and cheap drinks and sitting down watching all the different people pass by is pretty good entertainment. Also got the only clubs where there actually is a party like what I'm used to from back home not the stand by table bullshit. And those Clubs clubs doesn't charge any entrance or maximum 100baht. As well not so many old people and the girls there is open to foreigners and it's hooker free. Sure there might be some shitty people around but nothing bad ever happen to me.

Also JJ is good for a date with the right girl. Just go around and look at shit and the animals. Going to a mall is boring IMO and I don't do dinner dates. But that's me.


Anyone got some suggestions for dates in Bangkok except that?

Never been to the floating market but it sounds like tourist trap. Until a Thai people with good judgement recommend is I wont make the trip.

^The last time i was in a KSR club, I was pretty wasted, walk in another club, I didnt buy a drink, kept getting hassled. I told them not I am too dunk for another beer, then some waiter come and started swearing at me telling me to gtfo unless I want to drink. I just left. Small sample size though.

Good places for dates I would suggest Lumpihi park, movies (dont have to talk which may be arkward if they are bad at english) and watching free live muay thai shows at MBK (Wednesday at 6pm) . After thats over you walk to Siam square and check the markets they have on every night.

I'll second the see a movie thing, sometimes at my place, and sometimes at a theater if I don't want the girl to now where my place is for some reason.

I mostly game girls at uni during class hours and quite a few of them don't want to go out for drinks(they always start drinking at my place).

Also, it's good this is my last semester at Kasetsart, after a year I'm starting to get a reputation. Even the old bitch that runs the international program messaged me on Facebook and told me to jaiyen. I'm gonna miss this place.

If you are already at JJ market with a date, then you can also go to the park and rent the push boat there. Will be hard for any girl not to be waiting for the kiss while you are under a bridge in the white swarn push boat. The same works in Lumpini if there are no protests.

I also like to have dates at smaller roof top bars, like the sky train jazz bar next to Victory Monument. Nice and quiet place for a good chat. Afterwards you can walk over to the loud and busy Saxophone Pub.

Khao San is surprising good as well for dates as long as you can stand it. I have met many girls who have not been there but are very curious to check it out... They just need somebody who will make them feel safe. There is also a small street opposite of the main road, I think it is Danoen Klang Tei, that is more or less thai-only and has a nice roof top restaurant.

Or take a boat from BTS Saphan Taksin. Either the free one to Asiatique in the evening or the orange one to Nonthaburi during the day. Your little princess might be a bit scared at first but will then thank you for the excitement and for taking her out of her rosa bubble for a while.

I have never checked them out personally, but I guess the cat cafes might be a good spot as well, as long as you like cats. Same with popular spots as restaurants or cafes etc... For example there is cake-shop at ari that almost every girl in bangkok, no matter where she lives, seem to know and wants to go to. Those might be safe bets if you want to impress the girl.

Usually I just take them to quiet and nice restaurants around my place though.

What is the point of taking a date to the movie? Sure movies are a great reason to bounce back to your place after you have already build attraction, but a date in the cinema?

Did anybody ever asked girls how their dates with thai men usually go? My sample is pretty small, but especially if the girls are coming from a good family, then it seems to be pretty standard that men have to pick them up and drop at home, no matter if this is on the way or in the other direction. I have even heard stories that girls force their friends to drop the thai men in case after staying the night at his place he did just drop the girl at the BTS and did not drive her home. Of course they are aware that it is a different culture, but I think it is really interesting to have in mind.
