I'm curious what made you reply to a comment made 4 months ago. My comment relates to the ease of pulling for a ONS / banging, not relating to your own preferences.

Thanks jspill, and yeah I think it goes:

1.) Foreigners start going to a night spot
2.) Pros follow soon after

So even though Route 66 was historically a young Thai joint, now that the farang % has shot up the pro % is also creeping up as well.

Whereas Soi 11 has always had tons of foreigners, hence Levels and all those places have large % of pros.

Same with the after hours spots, though I think those are extra pro heavy no matter what because guys who strike out at the regular clubs are extra likely to pay out of desperation since they know it's their last shot for the night.

Well, the circle of girls who bang farangs is very small. So you shouldn't calculate with 8.3 million people but rather with a few hundred, especially if the girl is on Tinder.

Hey malc, I'm a freelancer. Convincing a client to let you travel is a much easier than an employer. Employers have 'company policy' whereas w/ freelancers everything is ad hoc so as long as you do good work most clients are cool with anything.

This will require regularly staying up and working until ~12am to take calls, but on the flip side you can wake up without an alarm and start your day tanning & relaxing at the pool. Personally I prefer it --- since I'm staying up late to party on the weekends anyway, might as well keep a consistent sleep schedule 7 days per week.

Changing from FTE to freelancing usually involves a big pay cut irrespective of if you travel (it certainly did for me). I went from easily available 6 figure regular (onsite) jobs to: 42k year 1, 78k year 2, 122k year 3 and am now on track to beat that in year 4.

Unfortunately I don't have any shortcut (or I would have taken it), just need to build out your network of other freelancers & clients for the work to start flowing. On each of your jobs, work hard to impress both the client & your colleagues and they will be happy to refer you work in the future. In the open marketplace (when you don't have a connection) you're competing against literally the entire globe (when talking remote) so market forces inevitably push rates down due to the risk that you are terrible and will waste the client's money. There is a HUGE premium placed on trust in this industry as there are many terrible and/or unscrupulous freelancers/consultants out there.

If you are in an FTE and want to become independent, I'd would say:

1.) Make a list of everyone you've ever worked with at all the companies you've ever worked for (even if it was incidental contact)
2.) Make sure you have ~1 years living expenses saved up
3.) Email everyone in #1 (other than those at your current job) to generally catch up, then ask if they know about any project work. As soon as you land a gig, quit your FTE and you're off to the races!
