Maybe it's time to short that stock? When people find out en masse it's not the company they thought it was, price is probably gonna plunge.

When you noted that it had a rape scene I had to think for a while about where that was. Then I had to google it and look for a Jezebel article [http://groupthink.jezebel.com/can-we-talk-about-the-rape-scene-in-the-wolf-of-wall-st-1491757854].

Ya, I'm on the same page as you. There wasn't a molecule in my body thinking, oh noes, its a rape, when I watched that scene. I still can't put it together how anyone would see that as rape.

I did not even think of that, but either way i dont trade buy and hold guy.

It happened before

Quote:In October, shares of Tweeter Home Entertainment Group Inc. THEGQ surged as investors mistook the company for Twitter Inc. TWTR , which had just released its IPO plans at the time and selected the ticker “TWTR.” Tweeter’s ticker in October was “TWTRQ,” but it subsequently switched its ticker to “THEGQ.”

The comments to that Jezebel story are pretty funny. Came across this -

Quote:I thought this was one of the most misogynist movies I have ever seen. TONS of female nudity (including brief shots of bald mon pubis) plus the way the "bottom tier" prostitutes were presented made me ill. I noticed that the few women w/positions of power (judge, opposing counsel) were very unattractive. Coincidence? I think not. And the way they glorified this dolt was disgusting. Can you imagine a film about George Wallace or Strom Thurmond in which they weren't presenting as the disgusting human beings they were even being green lighted? Or how about a movie based on their autobiography? Scorsese apparently has NO respect or regard for the female gender. Will NOT watch any of his movies in the future.

Reminded me of this scene from Taxi Driver, where Scorsese makes a cameo -

I always thought 'Taxi Driver' was overrated. As was 'Raging Bull'. Seem to appeal more to film students than movie lovers.

Give me Goodfellas or Casino any day of the week.

cardguy, a year ago I would have agreed wholeheartedly. But I re-watched Taxi Driver not long ago and it's a great movie, not because of but despite all the things that the "film students" love about it. Just too much real intensity and memorableness all round, in the conviction of de Niro's character, in the textures of New York at its great height, in Jodie's weird young dyke's acting brilliance, in how good the violence is when it erupts. Just a great movie that completely survives all its pretensions.

My ranking of these films right now would be: 1. Goodfellas, 2. Taxi Driver, 3. Casino, 4. Raging Bull.

same old shit, sixes and sevens Shaft...

Loved the movie, me and my buddy were the only ones in the theater that laughed when Leo DiCaprio smacked the bitch.

I didn't laugh at that but I enjoyed seeing it and the gut punch he gave her.

I think 'Casino' is very underrated. Alot of the time I find myself thinking it is better than 'Goodfellas'. Yet alot of people slam 'Casino' and love 'Goodfellas' which makes no sense to me since they are very similar films.

This is my favourite scene from the film.

I can't think of a scene as good as this in 'Taxi Driver'.

I thought the movie was 3 hours of testosterone fueled fun! Testosterone and debauchery I loved it! Highly recommend it. I didn't think movies like this were still produced in the US. Its the kind of movie that would give a feminist a heart attack....

Yeah I was wondering where this rape scene was too, fortunately the logical writers at jezebel have enlightened me.

Interesting story from Phil Spector about his importance to Scorsese's early career.

RE: The Wolf of Wall Street
I fucking LOVED this movie.

Pleasantly surprised at how funny it was, considering it's meant to be a 'serious movie'.

The random shit that happened every now and then was what made it movie for me:

I.e. Shaving the woman's head, eating the kid's goldfish (and the rant at him after), Donny vs Brad in the car park, punching the gay butler, $26,000 of sides which cure cancer, trying to grab the bloke's hairpiece, Donny's massive teeth, the conversation about midgets, Donny talking about his retarded children, the 'telepathic conversation' with the Swiss banker.

LOVED the bit where he was crawling across the table and trying to grab the phone from Donny hahaha!

Fucking awesome movie.

The guy is an idiot and made a lot of mistakes.

But its an excellent film
